obadiah777: dumb post. why should nigerian leaders order takeout ? what point will they be trying to prove ? obama is only doing this for publicity. publicity like this does not endear you to nigerians. if anything the typical nigerians response will be ' look at this fool. his mates in government have stolen enough money to eat in fancy restaurants he is ordering take outs like a poor wretched person mmtcheewwww' . Nigerians only respect ostentation
its all about the mindset.whether its for the campaign or not, american leaders realise that the power lies with the people.it cant be denied that many of this "unscheduled stops" on the campaign trail are for the purpose of publicity, however, they do same even when its not an election year.clinton was a master at such moves.when you have a society where the president is continually conscious of his ratings with the public, you're bound to have a president who never takes the people for granted and who always gives a damn about them

I'm aware of 3 occasions when OBJ did this. IBB used to drive himself around Lagos in a five series BMW when he was @ Dodan Barracks. Once saw Abdulsalami @ Onikan in a G Class when he was head of state. Need I talk about Murtala Muhammed?

obadiah777: looks simple until you start tackling tax returns, red light ticket, neighbors with guns, spree shootings, overworked, bills bills bills and mo bills, interracial strife.

LOL cheesy You have spoken well. You just described america perfectly. Let's not forget hurricanes and tornadoes that rip through their cities destroying everything in its path and leaving many people suddenly homeless. People are still recovering from hurricane Isaac that just occured last week. Abeg, I no fit shout.

@Post

President Obama strikes me as an extrovert and outgoing personality. He has no problem approaching and talking to strangers and feels comfortable doing so which is good. It is election year so he has to mingle with the masses and rally them up to vote for him.
Re: Obama Ordering Take-out, Eating In Resturant by gbadexy(m): 12:43pm On Sep 04, 2012
Obamma is a very good politician, but I hope that senior citizen too won't die from excitement when obamma leaves. He should make medical provisions for her as it won't look good if she too were to die.
All in all, america has a very developed democracy and though their leaders are well respected and protected due to the position of the office they hold, they are still like ordinary citizens that are accountable to the law if found wanting.

Obasanjo, Johnson-Sirleaf In Abuja Meet-The-People Tour
From: Madu Onuorah, Abuja
President Olusegun Obasanjo will this morning attend a thanksgiving service at the Aso Villa Chapel as part of the programme to mark his 69th birthday.

The low key event is expected to be attended by a few of his associates, aides and family members. Later in the afternoon, a squash competition will hold at the Squash Court near the office of the National Security Adviser.

Yesterday, Obasanjo and visiting Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf undertook unscheduled visits to four different locations in Abuja in what has been termed a "meet the people tour."

From the Presidential Villa Abuja, both Presidents Obasanjo and Johnson-Sirleaf visited the NNPC Mega Station at Wuse, the Garki Model Market, the Asokoro General Hospital and an outlet of Mr. Biggs at A.Y.A. Junction, Asokoro.

The Presidents' visits to the locations took Abuja people by surprise as it was devoid of heavy security presence.

At the NNPC mega-station, where the Presidents were conducted round by the Supervisor, Mr. Stephen Yohanna. President Obasanjoshook hands with customers and staff, stopping briefly for chats with some of them.

Soon, some cheering crowd gathered at the station. A smiling President Obasanjo waved to the crowd, eliciting even more cheers.

The visit to the Garki Market was electrifying. The traders - young and old - clapped, laughed and cheered as the Presidents snaked through the stalls. "Sai Baba", "Baba o'' and "Presido", the traders shouted and chanted through the period the President was in the market.

At the Asokoro General Hospital, the President visited the sick and congratulated mothers that had just been delivered of babies. He was conducted round by the Hospital's Senior Consultant, Dr. Mike Aghahowa.

At the Mr. Biggs outlet at Asokoro, patrons including former Presidential aspirant, Mrs Sarah Jibril and some students of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja, were certainly not expecting Presidents Obasanjo and Sirleaf when they walked into the eatery.

President Obasanjo took time out to talk with them and partake of a meal of chicken and rice with two young girls, Oluwasore and Adetutu Ojo and their mother.

After the visits, Presidents Obasanjo and Sirleaf rode through other districts in the city before returning to State House.

Kudos to true leaders who do it because thats really who they are and not for show. It also sends the right signal to their colleagues and followers that holding that office will end one day and they would return to their normal life one day.

As for the Obama's, whether its election or not, na their way. Xmas period 2011, Michele Obama strolled into a Target shop in Bethesda wt a face cap and was only recognised when she was paying at the till. Obama is known to play basketball in the hood as well.

Coming back home, Gov Fashola was walking right in front of me in the departure lounge at MMIA to board an Emirates flight. He pulled his hand luggage himself and also placed it on the table for searching by himself at the gate of the plane. He walked down the plane gangway with not one aide in tow not even his aide de camp I dont know if he had an entourage waiting for him in the plane but from what i saw, and the reaction of the Airport Police commandant and Air Force personnel that accompanied him through his walk around the airport, you could tell that he was alone.

There is also a top 10 bank MD, that has bn sighted having quick snacks wt children in KFC and also picks them up from school as need arises. No escort car; no security detail, NOTHING. Wort emulating

Blackteeth: Why do you guys keep comparing Nigeria and America?

I wonder oh! America turned 236 years old on July 4th this year. Nigeria turns 52 years old on October 1st and some people are comparing the two countries. When america was Nigeria's age, americans were assasinating their presidents left and right. They were also lynching people of African descent like a bunch of heartless beasts while keeping black people enslaved. Women had no rights to vote either.

Comparing america to Nigeria is like comparing a 5 year old child to a 50 year old adult. Does that make any sense? I believe that if we Nigerians begin holding our leaders accountable and government rectifies our epileptic power supply situation that has been plaguing us as a nation since independence, we will begin to make REAL progress as a nation.

It is all about the culture. Our culture says "to show that you are a strong leader make yourself inaccessible to the people you are leading. The more inaccessible you are, the better". The culture of the west says "to show that you are a good leader make yourself accessible to the people you are leading. The more accessible, the better."

Finally! It's visible again. Thanks mods. So Obasanjo and Johnson-Sirleaf ate at Mr Biggs, went to the market, etc. That wasn't the only time he did that while he was president.

There is no big deal in this. Politicians pull some stunts to appeal to the populace. Ayo Fayose stopped on many occassions to buy roasted plantain ("Boli") and Groundnuts while he was governor of Ekiti State

That is because most Nigerians have turned them into 'gods'. Nigerian culture and mindset encourages the over patronizing of the rich and those in positions of power. The same way many Nigerians will stupidly patronize fellow human beings of other racial groups and treat them like 'demi gods' on Nigerian soil while treating their fellow compatriots with hate, disdain and disrespect.

Even if our leaders in Nigeria begin to act like the leaders in the western world, Nigerians will use their mouth to verbally abuse them. It's funny how some Nigerians are quick to compare america with Nigeria but forget that americans don't have a repressive cultural mindset like most Nigerians do. Everything in Nigeria is a big deal. Getting married is a big deal, having children especially male ones is a big deal, not driving the latest SUV is a big deal, not having a 6 bedroom duplex is a big deal, not having a blackberry is a big deal, not wearing brazillian weave (by the ladies) is a big deal. We attach too much importance to frivolties in Nigeria and then later on we want to compare ourselves to the americans.

When we adjust our cultural mindset to suit 21st century thinking, then we will begin to see change in our leaders and in we the citizens that they lead. On a side note, Bo the portuguese water dog is so cute. Notice how well groomed Bo is unlike our dogs back in Nigeria that have crust all around their eyes and their fur will be looking all dull and lifeless due to poor nutrition and lack of care and proper dog ownership by the Nigerian dog owner.

Stop displaying ur ignorance, Michelle went for shopping when she was tryin to launch her 'let's move campaign ', and it is captioned how to shop like a first lady, she did this amid tight security both inside and outside, not that she just strolled in there, ok? And for Obama, he snapped those pics u display december when he had shown interest to recontest as president, Christmas period, and when he goes into any shop, nobody goes In and every close area is barricaded, u can see that when he is waving...

According to Obasanjo, Murtala Muhammed refused to have an electricity generating set installed at his house when he became head of state. It took Obasanjo and Danjuma a long time to convince him to do it.

He also refused to be driven around in motorcades or to use sirens. Usually it was just the Head of State, his ADC, his orderly and his driver riding in his official Mercedes Benz limousine. No outriders, no escorts. He also refused to move in to Dodan Barracks, but retained the official house given to him when he was commissioner for communications.

He was assassinated while going to work (his car was stuck in heavy traffic) at the junction of Bank Road and Ikoyi Road.
