@chitown I am sorry to hear about your friend but she has cervical incompetence. Yes, we do put a stitch to make the cervix stronger but we also give injections of progesterone. Bedrest is good but this is a difficult condition to treat. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with any specialists in Nigeria. |

@NGCOM My friend, a bartholin cyst abscess does not cause pain in any other area except the vaginal region i.e localized pain. Your symptoms are not consistent with bartholin cyst abscess |

@casier Were you going to a doctor and being diagnosed with yeast or was it self diagnosed? Did you have a discharge? Do you wear pantiliners? Do you douche? Do you sleep with your underwear on? Do you wear cotton only underwear? candidiasis does not affect fertility. If you answer the questions, I might be able to help. |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by Nobody: 6:43am On Jul 06, 2008 |
thanks doc,i guess its more of self diagnosis,be used to the symptoms yes there is irritaing discharge whitish or dirtish at the end of a stressful day try to wear cotton undies mostly dont douche expect using antiseptics like dettol and salt have a temperature slightly higher than norma and the environs makes trousers or jeans a must wear thank you so much |

Doctor in the house please help. i was about about 7 weeks pregnant(still spotting) when i went for my first scan and the doctor told me that the sac was present but there was nothing inside. adviced for an immediate d&c. i didn't go for the appointment cos i figure out that if there was something wrong i would wait till i have a m&c naturally. i am 12 weeks now and i am so scared to death to go to the hospital for a re scan thou the spotting have stopped since 3 weeks ago.do i wait till i am 16 weeks or go now please what do u advice i do? |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by ajolayo(m): 4:30pm On Jul 07, 2008 |
@ronell, Even though the spotting stopped 3 weeks ago, did u continue to have the symptoms of pregnancy, I mean the early morning sickness, vomiting, feeling of being unwell and the likes. If they saw just a sac and no contents, you might have had a missed abortion. The spotting and if u stopped having the symptoms of pregnancy would point to the diagnosis but meanwhile an Ultrasound scan is diagnostic. Get another scan as soon as u can, if possible from another centre. If its a missed abortion, just go for an MVA (Manual Vaccum Aspiration), its almost like D&C but its a big syringe we use called Karmann's syringe. Thats what I'll advice. The sooner u know the better and the sooner u can conceive again if its a missed abortion. Ciao |

@NGCOM I don't believe in it. It can actually cause bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections by decreasing the acidity of the vagina |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 3:53am On Jul 08, 2008 |
@ronell I sympathisize with your dilemma but I think you need to see your gyn to determine the status of your pregnancy. This is the only definitive way to determine which course of action to take. Delaying an evaluation may only further complicate your clinical picture. Please let me know how it goes. |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 3:56am On Jul 08, 2008 |
@casier douching with anything is a no-no. The antiseptics that you are using are killing to good bacteria in the vagina which prevent yeast from gaining a foothold. Trousers and pants also cause increased heat which also affects the acidity of the vagina. I would advise you to stop douching, when you get home, take off your underpants. Wear cotton only underwear. Try wearing loose fitting clothing more often. You will be surprised by how quickly your symptoms resolve. |

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by ajolayo(m): 5:38am On Jul 08, 2008 |
@kathyekiti, I am a Physician - I mean Internal Medicine, Hoping / Studying to become a Neurologist, All things being equal. That really should mean I do not have any business with this thread as I just saw now that its Gyne/Obst strictly. It used to be all encompassing. Sorry, I'll just stay in the wings, Kudos chief, |

hello Kathyekiti and other gynecologists in the house you are doing a beautiful work here, God bless you. Please kindly tell me what to do. sometimes ago after having sex with my wife, i discovered my privates frequently itched me and i asked her to go for a test after she complained of pains in the lower part of her abdomen as well. it was discovered she had a bladder infection and it was treated promptly over an extended period, after which the Doc gave her a clean bill of Health.i just noticed recently (few weeks ago) that some whitishly dry patches (like rashes) appear on my privates and they peeled off after some time.i thought that was all of it till i discovered those patches (although almost invisible now) swell up during sex and make sex painful for us (but only on the side of the patches) and gives her a swollen Labia on the side in contact with the patches.i read about it on the net and from what i could see, i might have been infected with yeast or something. what should i do (as i have never met any other woman apart from her in my entire life) ?? |

@ajolayo That's ok. There is a general medicine doctor in the house thread. Please visit them because I am quite sure your help would be appreciated @innocentee Sounds like you have jock itch which is a type of yeast infection. Please see your doctor. You and your wife need to be treated at the same time so as to prevent reinfection. It is very easily treated. Good luck. 1 Like |

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 10:50pm On Jul 12, 2008 |
@gold finch There are several types of iron supplements that you can take. Ask your doctor. did your doctor tell you why you have low iron? |
