Nigerian Corpers are really suffering. cry Can't imagine myself earning 19,800 (a little over a hundred dollars shocked ) a month when school children here earn $10 an hour working part-time.. How can one possibly live on that? Ha! That country is in God's hands o.

i do save up to#25000 a month. because my ppa pays me #15000. so out of 35k am able to save 25k. then 10k for my pocket. #advantage of serving in your state of residence and ur ppa closer to your home. God help nigerian graduates.

People survived on N8,500 and N9,500 before you guys.

dan_dollar: I wonder how I suvived on N7,500.

Yes o. Back in the days. But I felt really guilty after the service year 2004/2005; I had only 30k in my bank account. I wish I had saved more.

@OP:- Surviving on your "ALAWEE" no matter how much depends on the following factors:

1.) Your area of primary assignment. If you're in a village, your cost of living may comparatively lower particularly when it comes to spending on food, transport and rent.

2.)Whether or not you still get support from your parents and other relatives during the service year. For instance I had a corper mate whose parent send her 10k (for up-keep)every month even when the federal AlAWEE was 7,5.

3.) You lifestyle.

4.) Like some others have said discipline.

5.) How you use your spare time. You may engage in a small business or offer private teaching classes for some extra income.

Cheers

Served some years in Plateau state back wen allowee was 9775. First 6 months, I was away from my state of posting but returned 6 months to the end of nysc. My place of primary assignment didn't give me a dime so I was forced to live on just nysc allowance. Anytime I collected my allowance, I will rush to Oasis bakery to have some yummy cakes and Farm Fresh yoghurt. In the 1st week all is fine, in the 2nd week I'm still okay, in the 3rd week I'm holding on and in the last week, I'm trying hard to stay alive. I so much suffered during that period. Now that its 19800, you shouldn't experience what I experienced.
