i think your mum is experiencing what is called Post Menopausal Syndrome (PMS), aside her drugs she would need counselling from her doctor to help her understand these new changes in her body. she would need to take her HBP drug (hydrochlorothiazide) and methylcobalanine for the nerve pain. i pray for her quick recovery.

My dear, disregard the conflicting advice here especially those that concerns taking medications. I recommend you see a cardiologist.

In addition she needs to rest more often, do daily mild exercise, drink water regularly, avoid eating beyond 7pm at night, sleep on time, limit salt intake, take fruits regularly, etc. These and the other recommendations from the consultants is what she should observe.

I repeat disregard all the drug prescriptions here on nairaland. Adhere strictly to the prescriptions by her physician.

Your mother has no business asking for advice on NL. I advise you to take her to a cardiologist at once.All the symptoms you have described are the same - hypertension. Not all drugs work in the same way for everyone. So if the adomet is not working they should get her changed to another drug urgently. In case you are wondering, yes I have had high blood pressure and I am speaking from experience. A highly expensive drug that an inexperienced public hospital doctor first prescribed (along with sleeping pills - she thought I had mental problem) only made it worse and quite nearly killed me, until a cardiologist took over.
What is the use of the antibiotic ?It doesn't just make sense. Most importantly , you should find the root cause of her stress and remove her from it.For women, worry is often the greatest culprit otherwise weight problem.A competent cardiologist should advise better ; not teenagers and inexperienced doctors on NL. Time is essential before her system , especially kidneys,suffers a collapse.

She needs to lower her salt and mostly let her avoid alcohol.If she has gained weight, you try to bring down her weight by eating healthy meals, by reducing the intake of red meat and to take enough rest.Let her avoid smoking or staying among people who smoke and also stay off industrial areas because of inhaling industrial chemicals.

India is the worst place to recomend for anyone.
Everyone I know that went to India for surgery all died in India or few months acfter they return.
I know 5 people that went to India for breast cancer treatment/surgery, heart problem, kidney problem, liver problem etc, they never came back alive.
We should make a post and ask people to state their experience in Indian hospitals.

The best advise I can give you is, take your mom to TB Joshua church for healing. Medically, High blood pressure has no cure, and high blood pressure is a serious health problem, it leads to ENLARGED HEART DISEASE, CARDIAC ARREST, HEART FAILURE and STROKE. High Blood Pressure can even damage your kidneys, PLS TAKE YOUR MOM TO SYNAGOGUE URGENTLY.

I have two issues - 1) Is this issue of acute pain in my chest anytime I drink cold water late at night (after 7:30 pm). In the very middle, the focal point is just slightly below the rib cage.
Whenever I lie down and relax, the pain goes away immediately but if I try to SIT upright and do any kind of work, it starts immediately.
I normally don't eat after 7pm but I can't stop myself from taking water so for now I've resolved to taking just hot/warm water in the evening but its not the best experience really (warm water). Please who has an experience of this kind of issue ?

2) Is this issue of waking up feeling feverish whenever I sleep late (anything after 1am). This feverish condition continues until am able to take a nap during the day. There are differnt classes of treatment for hypertension, if one is not working i believe it can be changed by doctors. hollyset: People, eating fresh garlic will help lower your blood pressure. Though it tastes awful, but it sure works. Please dont mix it with your medications. Also you can drink tea with no sugar or milk daily, this will help you release excess water in the body that is constricting the arteries. All these with simple exercise like walking will help her. I support this tip cos it has worked for me and still working for my dad. Many years ago, I happened to feel wormlike movement around my body, serious headache, hypotension and many health defects. sounds like you may need to be checked for partial blockage of your coronary arteries. anyway what happens is when you drink cold water, it cools your organs so that your heart has to work harder to heat your organs up. while your heart is working harder ( beating faster ), it needs more oxygen, and this means more blood through the coronary arteries is needed. if the arteries are partially blocked then you feel the pain you talked about. quick question for you ? how old are you ?

and when you lie down the hemodynamics is not so taxing, its easier for the adequate cardiac output to be maintained without the heart working as much as when standing. this is why you dont feel it when you lie down

my advice ? in the meantime, stay away from cold water, try eating raw garlic and lots of fresh green vegetables. and if you can afford it go do like a treadmill stress test an ecg and echo

Now they have done all test, scans and x-rays but cannot find anything wrong, the only advice the doctor gave is whatever that's stressing her she needs to tackle it. Secondly needs enough rest, sleep and try to relax, the only thing she was given was a sleeping pill for 14 days and advice to bu a HBP monitor and just monitor it.

With the little history provided by you, what your Mum is suffering from is consistent with menopause and underlying hypertension as somebody pointed out earlier on. Depending on how serious the problem is, a general physician can manage it and probably refer her to a specialist if he cannot.
A thorough history and examination is needed to make a good diagnosis and management. She should not under any circumstances take any anti-hypertensive not prescribed by a qualified health professional. This is a public forum, people are entitled to give their own advice. Chose wisely.
