Somex10202: So sad,and i heard him speak some few days back on inspiration fm about this saudi and nigeria haj wahala.May his gentle soul rest in peace.AMEN Hmm. Then it may probably have been a cardiac event. Anyway RIP to the man and fortitude to his family and a large section of the muslim and indeed christian community who value his immense contribution to peaceful co-existence. Many from both sides will not have liked the man but he was a like one of those catridge fuses that protects the system. Now he's gone the question is did he groom anyone of similar ideology or are we in for some rough inter-faith, north-south times. |

Islamic Council prays for ailing scribe, Adegbite Published on July 19, 2012 by · 38 Comments Nnamdi Felix / Abuja The Supreme Council for Islamic affairs has called for prayers for its ailing Secretary General, Dr. Lateef Adegbite, who is receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital. According to the council, Dr. Adegbite was admitted at the hospital last night owing to his poor health condition, and prayed Allah for his quick recovery. Dr. Lateef Adegbite is the administrative head of the highest Islamic policy making organ in Nigeria and oversees the day to day running of the Council. Ahead of this years Ramadan fast scheduled to commence on Friday, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs on Thursday in Abuja, also called on Muslim faithfuls to pray for the unity of the country while urging the insurgent terrorist groups to end the bloodshed and wanton killing in the North. The chairman of the council and the Sultan of sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar the 3rd, represented by the National Legal Adviser to the Council, Mallam Aminu Muritalab, stated that Muslims must make sacrifices while fasting and pray for the continued peace and unity of Nigeria. The Sultan sued for peace and called on those behind the ongoing crisis in the North to cease fire and commit to peace in the spirit of Ramadan and the holy month. At the forum which held at the Conference Hall of the National Mosque, three new deputy chief imams of the Mosque were presented to the public. The Council noted that the unveiling of the new deputy chief imams was aimed at making worship at the national mosque more thorough and effective. By this development, the Council stated that henceforth, that the conduct of jumat prayers and sermons at the national mosque will be collegiate as is done in the holy mosque of Makkah and Medinah. The Chief Imam, the Council pointed out, will prepare a roaster accordingly. It was also disclosed that one of the new deputy chief imams will fulfill Muazeen responsibilities as well as coordinate Dawah activities and supervise religious meetings and events in the mosque. |

this was the dead man stand on bh issue. Dr AbduLateef Adegbite, the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Public Awareness on Security and Civic Responsibility, has called on Nigerians to resist the militant Boko-Haram sect. Adegbite made the call on Friday at a news conference in Abeokuta, the Ogun capital. The call is coming against the backdrop of Thursday’s attack by the sect on three media houses in Kaduna and Abuja, in which six people were killed and many others injured. Adegbite, who is also the Secretary-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), described the attack on the media as a dangerous signal aimed at intimidating the press. He, however, expressed concern that there were faceless cabals, using the sect as a front, adding that Nigerians needed to be vigilant and united in exposing them. Adegbite said that the sophisticated weapons used and the organised way the perpetrators of the act conducted themselves and carried out their operations, showed that they were neither ordinary people nor novice. “Nigerians must not be cowed, despondent or surrender to the intimidating tendencies of these unscrupulous element who have continued to inflict sufferings upon innocent Nigerians. “Once we become despondent, our strong lines will be weakened, discouragement will set in and that will be the end to the struggle,’’ he said. He also called on Nigerians not to lose confidence in the ability of the Federal Government to handle the situation. Adegbite, therefore, called on well-meaning Nigerians to be alert and report any suspicious movements to the relevant authorities for necessary action. While commending the government for the efforts it was making to tackle the situation, the chairman said such efforts must be strengthened. He said the authorities needed to employ all machinery at its disposal to handle the matter in order to strengthen the hope of Nigerians in government’s ability to protect them. |
