The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)’s sewage tanker was on official assignment when it got stuck after fallen into drainage at about 8.30pm on Tuesday night in the taxiway of General Aviation Terminal (GAT), Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos caused a minor damage to the aircraft.

Why in the world was an open drainage, with orifices large enough to get a sewage tanker stuck, doing anywhere near a taxiway It could have been a plane trying to take off which got stuck causing another major disaster!! SMH

Billyonaire: That Pilot needs to be disciplined. Did he or did he not see the truck ? Why didn't he break the plane and alert the towers for alternative action. You don't just assume the space is wide enough and ram someone's aircraft on a visible barrier. It costs money to fix aircraft.
Dude, there is a procedure for this kind of thing, and pointed out in the OP if you fully read it:

There were no marshals around it neither was there any marking to indicate that it encroached into the taxi way. There was no Notice To Air Men (NOTAM) issued to that effect as well.

grin So because you didn't get a formal notice you taxi around with your eyes wide shut.

The pilot is lucky that truck didn't shear off his wing, discharge all his fuel and cremated all of them. Silly man.

“At about 7.30am of today, October 10, 2012 an IRS aircraft, Forkker 100 with registration number 5N SAT left the parking bay of MMA2 for the threshold of runway 18L of MMIA. The pilot Capt. D Kelly of IRS was informed by an Arik Pilot of an obstruction on the taxiway towards Runway 18L and he (Capt. D. Kelly) felt he could manoeuvre the obstacle by his own judgment but this failed because the tip of the wing of the aircraft collided with a section of the gully emptier at about 7.45 am.”
It added, “Capt. D Kelly did not stop but continued to taxi back to the boarding gate of MMA2 to discharge his passengers. No passenger or crew sustained injuries as a result of the incident. All the passengers were later transferred to another IRS flight to Abuja. Officials of the Accident Investigation Bureau and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority were immediately invited to the scene of the incident for the on-the-spot assessment of the incident while engineers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria were placed on stand-by to evacuate the stuck sewage tanker as soon as preliminary investigations by both AIB and NCAA were concluded.”

@ billyonaire, pilots have very limited view of the extremities of aircraft when "taxiying" i.e all movement on the ground except the take off run. That is why pilots most follow marshalling signals when entering the tarmac to park and when leaving it. Now away from the tarmac enroute to the "runways" on "taxiways " there are no marshellers, however standard international civil aviation organisations markings are painted on the taxiways to deliniate a centreline, as long as the nosewheel of the airplane is kept on this line the wings of up to a 747 aircraft will be clear of all obstacles in an international airport like lagos. When things like the broken dow truck happens, I mean this is how the world work shit happens , its no big deal. In an environment with competent airport authorities, an assesment will simply be made as to the adequacy or otherwise of the wing clearance with the stuck truck, if found to be inadequate, something called a notice to airmen is sent which will advice pilots operating on the taxiway in question to deviate rom the center line by an amount sufficient to clear the truck. the review of all "NOTAMS" in force at an airport is mandatory for aircrews operating in it. According to IRS no notam was issued , therefore if the irs plane was on the taxiway centerline, nobody can do anything to the pilot.

If this is true then its a normal case of mediocrity common to all aviation industry parastatals in Nigeria upto and including the regulator NCAA. for those who dont know, there is pothole on the taxiway in portharcourt, there are no lights on the taxiway at portharcourt, the runway and taxiway at kano are not smooth. all nothing new busness as usual niaja style.
