Peter Rufai, the former Super Eagles goalkeeper who slumped and went into coma on Monday, has been discharged from hospital.
Bruce, the younger brother of the former Super Eagles skipper confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES  on Wednesday that the World Cup goalkeeper has since left the Toki hospital in Surelere having been well attended to by family doctors who now believe he is fit to go home to recuperate.
According to Bruce, Peter Rufai was much better and needed very little or no form of assistance to move in and out of bed at home.
“He has been discharged, he is much better now”. Bruce said.
“We are happy he left the hospital on his feet, even though we have not been told what went wrong with him. We are just glad he recovered enough to recognize everyone, and the hospital decided he will gain full recovery better in familiar surroundings, that was why he was discharged”.
Bruce assured that the family would ensure Peter Rufai relaxes his highly demanding schedules, which include coaching clinic across the country, to enable him get the deserved rest recommended by doctors.
“The doctors made it clear to us he has to rest, so that is our focus. We also don’t want to lose him, so all those projects and engagements will understandably have to wait a while.”
NFF in touch
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation, through its media officer, Ademola Olajire, said they have been in touch with the family of the former international goalkeeper.
Bruce Rufai, brother of the two-time FIFA World Cup star, told NFF General Secretary, Barrister Musa Amadu on Wednesday morning that Dodo Manyana’had regained consciousness and returned home from hospital.
“We wish to, on behalf of the entire Nigeria football family, wish Peter a very quick recovery so that he can get back on his feet and return to a normal life,” said Barrister Amadu.
Amadu added: “We are very concerned about Peter’s situation. He did so  much for our dear country as a player and remains one of the true legends of the Nigeria game. He is also the Coordinator of our U-23 national team.
“The NFF was in touch with Peter to console him on the death of his mother when this incident happened.”
Rufai, who won 62 caps for the Nigeria senior team, was first choice when the Super Eagles lifted the African Cup of Nations for the first time on away soil, (Tunisia, 1994), and was also first choice at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup finals.
