Interesting Experiences Of Corpers Serving In Remote Villages by greatdave(m): 11:13am On Oct 25, 2012 |
When i first got to my PPA(Place of primary assignment), i was like wtf?! No lite(No electric poles anywhre),No pipe-borne water and Flunctuating Network? I thought to myself,hw in d world will i survive here...But 3months on,its been fun. Unparalelled hospitality, simple lifestyle and serene environment. Students in d school i teach-where 90% of ss3 stdnts cant communicate effectively in english-absent themselves for the flimsiest reasons:rain, market days/burials are unofficial public holidays. The major cases dealt with by d 'police station' in d village are goat/chicken theft, farmland trespassing, poligamy fights. Hoping to make some serious positive impact b4 i leave nxt year...pls feel free to share your experiences 12 Likes 3 Shares |

mko abiola: I served in a remote village in bayesa,a riverine community.FROM EXPERIENCE, a girl can only talk shamelessly like that when you've CLIMBED her. You're a disgrace if you ever did that. As charming as I was 7yrs ago, I didn't date a female corp member let alone descending so low to mingle with underage. 36 Likes 2 Shares |

In 2007 I was posted to KEBBI state . Then was further posted to birin Kebbi(their supposedly state capital ), goodness ! Adjusting to their way of life was really difficult. My place of primary assignment was govt day secondary school.(FEMALES) I remember vividly my first day of resumption ,when they were addressing me , they were like "malam walie ........." When I heard that "malam" I nearly went on a flogging spree.----- "naïve me" But with time I adjusted well and was loved by all my students, to the point they started professing their loff for malam rooneyboy With their: Malam walie innasonki, Malam give me ur address Malam give me ur phone number. With their big big boops , really had to respect myself there ooo. 6 Likes |

I served in Kainji, New-Bussa in Niger State. While in camp, we were told horrendous stories about Kainji so much that the worse curse u can place on anybody in camp was "May you be posted to Kainji". But contrary to what we were told, Kainji is still the best place I've ever been to my whole life! If not for the fact that I was not down with the students' attitude towards education, I would have stayed back. I will never forget when the whole JSS3 students came to my bunk (with knife, cutlass and every sort of dangerous instruments) just cos I foiled several exam malpractices they have thoughtfully planned out during their JSSCE exams (shudders) I beg, it is better told than experienced. All the same sha, I still have close ties with the Emir's nephew and have open invite from the people to come and stay anytime I want to; I'm still very much in contact with some of my serious students and very, very good neighbors in AMKK (III) Science College 5years after. I really miss my stay in Kainji #nostalgic# 2 Likes 1 Share |

I love this...having opportunity to share your experience....am currently serving in Tuatua community secondary school in a village called Korokoro. the local govt pays their light bill and for 3months now the local govt has not paid so no light. its the only community where i have seen children prefer farm to school....i once asked them which was more important and the all chorused FARM! Saying if there is no farm then no food.....#i no fit laff#. they are peacful and poligamous even as teens/singles. am having fun clapping always to wade sunflies. ow i dint mention....this ppl love dance and can dance and forget they are in a burial...burial is like a parri....dey seem to pray for one everyday..hahahahaha 14 Likes |
