Sokoto State Governor Wamakko’s refusal to apologize alleged whipping of three PHCN officers in the State House may be steeping into Statewide crisis of darkness as electricity workers union in Sokoto State have warned that the Governor’s act would now result in a situation that all residents of the State should blame their Governor for.

In a letter dated October 31, 2012, said, PHCN workers’ union expresses disappointment in the Governor for the act, with whom the union said security of workers ought to be guaranteed, but who rather dehumanized subjects he ought to protect.

“We are shocked beyond imagination to learn that on October 20, you invited the Business Manager and two Officers to your house, where you subjected them to inhuman treatment by personally whipping them mercilessly and then ordered their continuous flogging by the Mobile Policemen attached to your office.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, whom we are supposed to rely on for the security of the staff and equipment of PHCN in Sokoto State, you have betrayed our hope by this singular and unwarranted act.” the letter says.

An effort to redress the issue was further conveyed in the letter by the union;

“Therefore, except you renew our hope and confidence and tender an unreserved public apology to the staff you have dehumanized, we can no longer guarantee the continuous service of our members in Sokoto State.

“You should also be prepared to pay compensation that will be sent to your office soon. Accordingly, one week is sufficient to do this.”

The ultimatum given Governor Wamakko to apologize and compensate however expired Wednesday with the demand unmet, stirring the union to threatening a retaliation.

““We regret the inconveniences this unfortunate incident and subsequent action of the union may cause the good citizens of Sokoto State.”, said the union, adding that the residents of the State should hold their government responsible for what may be an imminent darkness throughout the State.
