Madawaki01: The foregoing refers.
Going into Mali, the core
requirement is for troops
who are trained in
Counterterrorism,
Counterinsurgency and
Desert Warfare. Against
the backdrop of the fact
that unlike no time before
in its history, the Nigerian
Army are currently
churning out CTCOIN-
biased troops, the report
which was scripted by
Afua Hirsch was
calculated to defame and
to mislead.
* In 2012 alone, the
Nigerian Army have
trained over 8,000 troops
in the RELEVANT
counterinsurgency and
counterterrorism skills of
Close Quarter Combat,
Fighting In Built-Up Areas,
IED/Ambush Defeat,
Hostage Rescue, House
Clearing and trained
combat engineers and K
9(War Dog) teams, both
at home and in the United
States of America.
As we write this, another
batch of 1,500 troops are
undegoing training in the
same arts at the all-new
Nigerian Army Training
Centre, ensuring that
within the next few
weeks, the total number
of CTCOIN-biased troops
trained in this one year
alone would rise to 9,500
officers and men.
Afua Hirsch’s article
becomes even more
laughable against the
backdrop of the fact that
as recently as October 1st,
the Nigerian Army
commissioned a new 176
Special Forces Battalion.
That would complement
the older 72 Special Forces
Battalion which has been
in existence for a few
years now and has
already seen action in the
Niger Delta and in our
War on Terror.
This is to say that by the
end of this month, the
Nigerian Army should be
in a position to say that
they have put together
enough Special
Operations Forces and
CTCOIN-biased troops to
form an army division.
More importantly, they
have been inducted into
battle, gaining relevant
combat experience in the
process.
Even if ECOWAS decide to
send in 4,000 troops to
Mali with Nigeria making
up half of that number,
how can a Nigeria with
that number of troops
(11,000) with tailor-made
skills and experience
applicable to the Malian
situation be objectively
assessed by any journalist
worth his onions, as not
having the men with the
requisite skills sets? The
Nigerian Armed Forces
similarly undertake
mandatory desert warfare
field training – the
geographical imperative
for operating in Mali.
See FOOTNOTES in the
comments section to
judge for yourself.
Concerning KITTING,
there is nothing else to do
than follow up the obtuse
claims advanced by Afua
Hirsch by showing
photographs of the troops
who are currently leading
the War on Terror at this
time inside Nigeria and
from whose ranks the
troops who shall be going
to Mali will be drafted.
Photographs presumably
are still worth a thousand
words.
It is instructive to note that
the ONLY factory which
manufactures night vision
goggles and bulletproof
vests anywhere in West,
East or Central Africa was
commissioned this year, a
joint venture between
Isreali firm MAROM
DOLPHIN and the Defence
Industries Corporation of
Nigeria. What other items
do we need going into
Mali? For goodness sake,
we even now produce
Night Vision Goggles
(essential for CTCOIN
operations) and
bulletproof jackets in
Nigeria. So what was she
saying about kitting?

solbil: those points ave beeen countered already unless you are the one whos not seeing it due to the fact that your fraustration over nothing has blinded you to true and sound analysis.

I was going to gwagwalada campus from uniabuja permanent site after reading what people said about kits. I took my time to notice the kits the guys were puting on and there is absolutly nothing wrong with it! There is absolutely no difference between what the put on and what we see american soldiers put on in afghanistan. Absolutely no difference.

Just saw your post...

My "fraustration has blinded me to true and sound analysis?" cheesy

Take a look at what you typed up there, son. Re-read it carefully. You have suddenly become an authority on the military and international geopolitics because in your own words, you took a trip from Gwagwalada campus to Uniabuja permanent site and saw Nigerian soldiers wearing the same kit American troops are wearing in Afghanistan?

Really?

A pity you did not have anything to say about the kit of soldiers actually on the ground in Mali. Get that information and report back. THEN we can talk.

Nigeria is a weak nation. Its weak in every category, from military to movies, to soccer.

All those tributes to Nigerian military were just a waste of space. Lets begin with a revolution and change that name that the British gov's wife dashed us 100 years ago.

What a shame we still answer that name proudly.

Here is some valid information due to
recent estimations and studies.
1. South Africa: South Africa (South Africa
has the most powerful army in Africa; it
has more harmful weapons than any
other country in Africa; it is the only
African country that was trying to create
the Nuclear weapon but was stopped by
the US. The South African National
Defence Force (SANDF) this includes:
South African Army, South African Navy,
South African Air Force and South African
Military Health Service. South Africa has
recently lower their budge on army from
$7.21 billion 2003 to nearly $4 billion
2011. Trained by Israeli, and British,
South African solders are more armed
and more trained than any other
country's soldiers.
2. Egypt: According to recent study, Egypt
is considered to be the second most
powerful country in Africa. For many
years Egypt has been the first strongest
country in the continent of Africa. With
number of troops exceed that of South
Africa, and more suppliers from countries
such as United States, Russia, France,
China, Italy and United Kingdom, political
instability has made an affect to Egyptian
Armed Forces. This includes Egyptian
Army, Egyptian Navy, Egyptian Air Force
and Egyptian Air Defense Command.
Egypt has increased their Armed Forces
budget from $3.9 billion to $5.85 billion
within the last five years.
3. Libya:
4. Morocco:
5. Nigeria: Nigeria has the second largest
army by number of troops, but due to
political instability and lack of equipment
Nigeria has appear to be the 5th
strongest country in Africa. It has been
estimated that in year 2013-2018 Nigeria
may get weaker.
6. Tanzania: Tanzania has the most
powerful army in East Africa; The
Tanzania Peoples' Defence Force (TPDF)
(Swahili: Jeshi la Wananchi wa Tanzania
(JWTZ) the one defeated Idi Amin of
Uganda with big help form Muammar Al-
Gaddafi of Libya and . The Palestine
Liberation Organization (PLO) The
Tanzania People' Defence Force includes
Land Forces Command, Naval Command,
Air Force Command, and Military
Intelligence. Julius Kambarage Nyerere
(The first Tanzania's President) prepared
president Laurent Desire Kabila of DR
Congo to take over the powerful Mobutu
Sese Seko Nkuku Ngbendu WA Zabanga;
also prepared his son Joseph Kabila.
Tanzania has trained Congolese solders
in Tabora and Kigoma region for Kabila
to return in Congo and take over power.
Both Kabilas father and son were
schooled and lived most of their lives in
Tanzania before returning to Congo.
Tanzania Also prepared Yoweri Kaguta
Museveni who also schooled and lived in
Tanzania before the Tanzania and
Uganda war that resulted in defeating
Dictator Idi Amin. Most Uganda leader got
help from Tanzania before becoming
leaders. This includes: Tito Lutwa Okello,
Yusuf Kironde Lule, and Bazilio Olara-
Okello. Recently, Tanzania did not want to
send his solders in Somalia but offer
training to Somali solders who will soon
return to protect their country. Tanzania
sent 924 soldiers to lead the African
Union Solders in Comoros's Island to take
Colonel Mohamed Bacar of Anjouan off
power. Tanzania has the 3rd largest army
in number troops after Ethiopia, and
Eritrea, and recently considered the
second in equipment after Kenya, but
with more well trained troops. The recent
estimation shows that Tanzania is the
country in East-Africa followed by
Ethiopia.
7. Ethiopia: Ethiopia once was considered
the strongest country in East Africa. After
continues civil war Ethiopia has gotten
weaker. Ethiopia is still has the largest
army by number of troops followed by
Eritrea and Tanzania, and the 3rd in
equipment after Kenya and Tanzania.
2011 Estimation shows, Ethiopia is
spending 2.4% of its GDP in military. This
includes: Ethiopia Army and Ethiopia Air
Force.
8. Ghana:
9. Kenya: Kenya is the second strongest
Nation in East Africa Economically after
Ethiopia; it is the first in East African
Community followed by Tanzania and
Uganda. In 1981 Kenya was consider to
be the 4th strongest nation in East Africa
after Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Somalia. In
1994 Kenya was considered the 3rd
strongest country in East Africa after
Somalia and Uganda having both
economic and political instability caused
by war and dictatorship. The estimation
indicates that Kenya will get even
stronger within next 5-10 years. Kenya
has the higher army budget in East Africa
followed by Ethiopia. 2012 estimation
shows Kenya is using 5.3% of its GDP in
military. This includes: Kenya Army, Kenya
Navy and Kenya Air Force.

. South Africa never tried to create nuclear weapons, it successfully developed the most poweful atomic and nuclear weapons during apartheid era and all that was dismantled and destroyed after ANC came into power in 1994. All nuclear made weapons and explosive ammunition were destroyed in JANKEMPDORP near KIMBERLEY in the Northern Cape after SA was readmitted in the UN and agreed to sign a Geneva Convention not to develop weapons of mass destruction again. Apartheid SA had among the best chemical and nuclear scientists who were specialised in chemical and biological warfare and the most feared in the whole world. Among them was the most feared Wouter Basson aka " Dr Death" SA cardiologist and former head of secret chemical and biological warfare project. The project that developed dangerous biological weapons, that forced the whole world to obey, including America. Those scientists had the potential of destroying the land mass as big as former USSR by simply catapulting nuclear loaded missiles frm SA to its intended destination, which will then be guided on its flight by use of computer network; polluting the air that would eventually kill multitudes; contaminating water sources of the world at large; and even poisoning the fabrics and vegetation.

Even with this 'shocking state' of NA, the SADF are interested in training their troops in various NA schools. Don't forget that training is the most important factor in combat proficiency. Thus the SADF seem to be aware of something the UK Guardian seems to miss. Afua Hirsch, the stooge of the West had claimed in her report that Ghana and Mauritania would best lead the West African forces into Mali. This is laughable because the GA has no history of combat experience (except if coup plotting and peacekeeping - NOT PEACE ENFORCEMENT - could be regarded as such). Even during ECOMOG operation, they were known for 'koronje', manning of checkpoints in the rear and the likes. Now that the chips are down in Mali, the 'examplary' GA is nowhere to be found while the 'shocking' NA as usual is called upon. Fortunately, actions will always speak louder than words.

Who the came up with this ranking? It is TOTALLY FLAWED? First of all, what's this trash talk about the Nigerian Army being weakened? Are we talking about tge same military known for its professionalism and experience? The same military that has spent a lot in training its officer and rank-&-file corp in some of tge best military training institutions within and outside Nigeria, and has invested a lot in the purchase of new combat platforms and the repairs/upgrade of old ones? If anything, the Nigerian military is way more experienced, thanks not only to military operations outside the country, but security ops within from Counter-insurgency to coubter-terrorim ops.

And why the hell are the Ghanians ranked higher than the Kenyans and Ugandans, when the Ghanians are notorious for their cowardice? The KDF is a well trained force that's currently kicking Al-Shabaab a.s.s in Somalia, same with tge battle-hardened Ugandan Defence Force that has equally been hunting down LRA rebels up north and Al-shabaab in Mogadishu.

And PLEASE take off Libya from no. 4. Why? Because, they had their collective asses handed to them multiple times by the Chadians during the Pick-Up wars in the 1980s. The Libyans simply lacked professionalism, and tge current military (or whatever it's called) is just a collection of a bunch of ragtag militias.

Overall,the ranking's total garbage.

Can you give us a reliable source concerning your claim about South Africa's purported interests in training their troops in NA colleges. I just hope that you did not make up or fabricated this story. SA With such enormous resources, that is ( SA Army gymnasium, SA Airforce gymnasium, Navy gymnasium, SA Army college and Saldanha military university/academy) I do not see the need why they should train their armies in a foreign country.

nagoma: Nigerians will not heed an advice. Go on continue playing the ostrich. They are telling you that corruption has eaten up your fighting force and some analysis was provided. But all you can do is to shout blue murder. Why can't you produce a counter analysis to show how the ever increasing military and security budget has improved the armed forces' capability and effectiveness?

You dey mind these delusional people? I can't imagine the basis for defending the rag-tag Nigerian Army for ANY reason.?; peacekeeping my foot! How much peace have they 'kept' here at home? Of course the entire Nigerian military suffers an embarrassing level of indsicipline - as seen in the FREQUENT acts of brutality meted out on unarmed and innocent civilians almost daily. There have been several cases where innocent civilians are killed, maimed or dehumanized in the streets for very trivial reasons. That alone, without needing further evidence, shows how disgusting the Nigerian military is.

Ordinary Boko Haram has been a problem they could not address, same as MEND and the ND militants (if not that those ones willingly gave up arms to enjoy the loot in Abuja). The only thing they excel at is intimidating and brutalizing civilians, and that is very sad. End of!

I presume you are not too conversant with the workings of the military hence your demand for a source. Quote me as the credible source here. Were you in the military, you would also understand the need for members of the military to train in other countries.

End of!
Fk off and go form your own country. Stinking devil.

Hmmm we are just pretending. What we have now is Biafra army not Nigerian army. The enlisting and promotion is exclusively reserve for igbos alone.we know Gen.ihejirake is on mission to destroy nigeria army and he is track. For operation in Mali he send Hausa man as field commander while his igbo brothers are arm chair general looting 1trillion budgeted for security. An officer with no promotion, bad posting and fear of retirement shouldn't be expected to put in his best in the service.Welcome to Biafra army

Your mother carries gonorrhea, AIDS, syphilis, herpes, all in one stinking puss.y from which YOU emerged. No wonder you're so full of frustration and hatred for Nigeria. Trouble is she was gang-rap.ed by Ghanaian and Togolese labourers, so you should take out your anger on them, not on Nigeria, you worthless pile of stinking goatshiit.
