FG In Talks With Boko Haram- Presidency by HammedSodiqq: 5:28am On Nov 13, 2012 |
The Presidency on Monday confirmed that it had commenced dialogue with the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram. It however said that the dialogue was not the type envisaged by Nigerians. “I can confirm to you that talks are ongoing at the background. But the talks are not the kinds being envisaged by Nigerians,” the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, told our correspondent in Abuja. Abati added, “I know that some Nigerians are expecting that a venue should be chosen and a banner will be placed there indicating that the Federal Government is holding dialogue with the group there. “That is not the kind of talks we are talking about here. The ongoing talk is a back channel one in which those who know members of the group are talking with them on behalf of the government.” Boko Haram which has been prosecuting a bombing campaign against the Nigerian state recently gave conditions for ceasefire and talks with the government. The sect, among others asked for compensation for its killed members; that its demolished mosque be rebuilt; that its members in custody be released; and that the dialogue venue should be in Saudi Arabia. It spoke through Abu Mohammed Ibn Abdulaziz, the second-in-command to its leader, Abubakar Shekau. Abdulaziz named a former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari; Dr. Shettima Monguno; a former Yobe State Governor, Bukar Ibrahim; Ambassador Gaji Galtimari; and Aisha Alkali Wakil, and her husband, Alkali as “trusted” Nigerians it would be ready to negotiate with. Buhari has since rejected the offer. Meanwhile, The PUNCH checks have revealed that the Federal Government is at the crossroads on how to hold a successful dialogue with the sect which is said to have been factionalised. But it was learnt that the President had ruled out dialogue with Boko Haram in Saudi Arabia. A top security source told our correspondent that, “While it is true that the government is reaching out to the sect, the fact that there are various factions of the group is bringing confusion. “There is concern that the dialogue may not yield the desired result. Even now, attacks are going on in spite of the peace moves by the group.” http://www.punchng.com/news/govt-in-talks-with-boko-haram-presidency/

Well if that wld bring an end to their onslaught, its a welcome development and also if salaries wld not be paid them like repentant militants. Otherwise it is not the end. The over 50millions unemployed youth wld start up something too which might even send the Aso Rock peep running for their dear lives. |

Okija_juju: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT IS WEAK God have mercy on us.. Next is the Yorubas. The South-South group got theirs, the Northern group is about to get theirs, Next is the Western group. The govt isn't weak, it's sensitive. Sensitive to the plight of innocent Nigerians that will be affected if it embarks on aggressive engagement with the sect. The govt has a humane character, it wants all aggrieved parties to come out and table their complains. GEJ to me wants to run an all inclusive govt. He wants all Nigerians to be part of governance. Democracy can't be better defined. |

A government that negotiates with terrorism is a weak government that can not safe guard the people nor has it;s interest at heart , it is a shame that abati would even say this, anyway since he said patience was resting, he can say anything. The only condition for dialogue should be that they raise up the about 3000 people they have killed. 1 Like |

Look, even if the talk with boko haram will bring peace,i'm not in support of it.. After killing thousands of innocent people, you just come-up and ask for negotiation and worst of all compensation.. Boko haram should first tell us why they killed innocent people? So that we will know where we as a country offended them? Boko haram should also let us know their sponsors and every bastard connected to their evil chain of destruction.. Look, negotiation doesn't solve this problem atall,it only gives future terrorist the confidence that this country can be held hostage as long as they wish... The FG should not give boko haram the gift of negotiation, cos terrorism is in their blood.. Come-on,these are people who are ready to die for their agenda, and you want to give them a brething space?? Hmmn, anyway let's see how it will turn-out.. But i think fg should have dug boko haram from the roots to solve our problem of insecurity and make sure any future occurence is averted... Well, lets see.. 2 Likes |

“I know that some Nigerians are expecting that a venue should be chosen and a banner will be placed there indicating that the Federal Government is holding dialogue with the group there. Why is Nigeria such an aberration? Where in the world do we see Government using this kind of patronising, arrogant and condescending language against those they are supposed to serve and remain humble to ? The GEJ Government has always been one that does not "give a damn" anyway. Merge that consideration with how it is insecure and suffering from persecution complex and it becomes obvious why the mouthpiece of the Government can talk to Nigerians as if they are a nuisance and/or the enemy. If the Nigerian people no longer trust GEJ and have indeed made him the "most cursed" President in the world, then they should all look at themselves first instead of rounding against Nigerians with frustrated talk. Abati does this too many times and it can be only be interpreted as the disdain this Government has for the people. 2 Likes |
