Jettage: Following embarrassing and undemocratic utterances by General Olusegun Obasanjo at yesterday’s meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the leadership of the commission today held a review meeting that could end the possibility of future election observation on its behalf by the former Nigerian leader.

As SaharaReporters reported yesterday, Obasanjo was the figure behind the recommendation of the ECOWAS observation team to curtail the media in election observation that contradicts the position of ECOWAS and other international democracy observers.

A senior ECOWAS official said of today’s development, “Our meeting this evening has resolved, and this will be communicated to the political leadership of ECOWAS, that Chief Obasanjo should be saved the trouble of trying to give what he doesn't have.”

He said the review was necessitated by the negative reaction generated by General Obasanjo's role in the observation mission and the potential for it to undermine the credibility of ECOWAS in future observation missions.

According to the senior officer, “You know Obasanjo is a loose cannon. He becomes uncontrollable once bestowed with power. We regret this appointment and vowed never to have the man invited to head missions again.

“ECOWAS was only fortunate to have [been] at an election of an advanced and stable democracy. Were it to be a volatile country, his disposition, recommendations and utterances are not only capable of truncating the electoral process, they are capable of jeopardizing the security and safety of our 250 monitors mobilized from across the sub-region.”

Obasanjo is not a politician but an opportunist.

An opportunist? As a Military and democratic president?? And you can't vote him out of power after his first regime as a democratic hand of state
Oh,he rigid himself in and you can force him out?

Smart fool will always rule sluggish wise.
Anyway, don't let that repeat itself again.

obongoboy: The idiot don't know what to do with his useless old age. OBJ my foot. biggest looter. a man who slept with his son,s wife, a man who killed bola ige, a man who used 18 billion dollars to give NIGERIANS darkness , a man who killed every living object in odi and benue. a man who who increased price of fuel
7 times in eight years , a man who wanted to rule for ever, a man who stole with impunity. a man who will die like aloof Hitler. shamless bastard.

I weep for Nigeria my country, not because our leaders have mismanaged our resources, not because we are still under-developed, not because we are suffering in the midst of plenty but because our YOUTHS, the so called LEADERS OF TOMORROW, HAVE LOST THEIR SENSE of discipline, lost respect for elders and to worsen their case, they cannot see beyond their noses. They read a story and failed to see the latent reason behind the story but instead jumped at the manifest and then drew an erroneous conclusion....They lack the latitude to analyse a story critically, no wonder they score poorly in their WAEC and JAMB exams, no wonder the are so gullible to the wicked antics of our despicable leaders, who use them and dump them at will. Its such a sordid situation, where then is the hope of a greater tomorrow for Nigeria. Otherwise, why would somebody open his or her mouth to throw tantrums at a man who had achieved what no man in Nigeria has achieved, why would somebody open his dirty mouth to abuse a man WHO IS ONE OF THE LIVING PRIDE OF NIGERIA, if you think otherwise mention a person in your family/tribe who can compare with him. The question is what can one do to satisfy Nigerians? Is it wrong to say the truth again? or is one no longer entitle to his own opinion again? I expected Nigerians to call for the head of the ECOWAS idiot that insulted Obasanjo but what did we do, we joined hands to CRUCIFY OUR OWN....GOD HELP NIGERIA!!!

ECOWAS shouldn't have made the mistake of assigning such role 2 OBJ. Let us call a spade a spade, democracy wise OBJ is no good and not a respecter of person. He should take a bold step by retiring 2 his Otta farm.

Re: ECOWAS Vows Never To Invite Obasanjo To Monitor Election by ministergh: 8:43pm On Dec 10, 2012
This mad man by his utterances nearly marred the election in Ghana last Saturday. A facility was uncovered in Accra which was speculated to be a facility operated by a joint team of Chinese and Isrealis. This facility was said to intercept electoral results faxed to the electoral commission and alter it before it reaches it. Quickly Mr. Obasanjo for reasons known to him rushed to the seen and said he the facility truly works for the E.C and that the E.C is not denying the fact. People had rushed to the seen because Ghana's electoral commission does not hide anything from the parties but in this case only the ruling party was speculated to be aware. Within an hour the electoral commission came out and denied in having any contract with any company to transmit information on its behalf. If it had not been God things would have been bad. People as a result started to believe he had a hand in whatever is going on. Ghana is a very democratic nation and they are able to keep it because they are faithful to the people. I hope Mr. Obasanjo learns to shut up next time.

This must be a sponsored rubbish! No one in ECOWAS would go to press with such info even if it were true.

Hate him for as much as you can, no one can deny the fact that OBJ was the first military head of state in Africa to voluntarily hand over to a democratically elected government during a time when "sit-tight" was gaining ground in Africa. How else can anyone score great democratic points? He is definitely not without flaws but as bad as he seems, he is the best we have had yet in this country and that goes to show our mediocrity and hypocrisy as a people since this is the best we have had yet.

I remember then when Chief Bisi Akande clocked 70 in the year 2011, he said that all he expect now is death and that he will be temporarily politically active. Akande is today a man of honour. Why can't Obasanjo follow suit? He has been disgracing himself, family and most especially my race. He's infact a disgrace to humanity. He should soft peldder so that the younger ones can pick from where he stop. This man should learn before it will be late

Sometimes people talk without wisdom and sense of decorum, can you compare Akande to OBJ?
Akande is a local champion compared to OBJ and has not even achieved up to half of what OBJ has.

Their decision to invite him in the first instance highlights they themselves are not better than him. They lack insight and have no respectable values. How can u invite a man who has no control over his household to help u instil discipline in ur own house. I expresd reservatn to a friend when i heard of this role given to obansanjo. This is a man who has no respect from within his immediate family. A man who cannot control his mouth and who neither can control his libido. It is only in our part of the world such men are made heroes. No civilized world does that. God when will you rescue Africa?

Why the criticism, OBJ's statement carries wisdom which in its entirety may stand right, irrespective of the report of other observers... OBJ stands for the truth but not in Naija!
