ational Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Chief Sam Nkire, has warned that Ndigbo may be paving the way for President Goodluck Jonathan to easily win the 2015 presidential election if they did not rally round Njiko Igbo, the regional association canvassing for Igbo presidency across political, religious, regional and other divides.

Nkire said the PPA had decided to align with Njiko Igbo for the realisation of the dream of producing the next president of South-east origin for the country in 2015 because it believed it was a just cause.
The party also disclaimed Ken Gbalikuma, whom it said had been parading himself as PPA national chairman.

Nkire, in a statement yesterday, said the demand for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction was the most popular political project across the length and breadth of Igboland today but expressed regret that a handful of featherweight political elites were secretly opposing it for selfish reasons.

Nkire, however, contended that no true Igboman or woman could come out openly to say that Igbos do not deserve to produce the next president, no matter the political affiliation.
He added that the demand for equity should not be misconstrued for a demand for disunity.

According to him, a demand of this kind for equity was one to achieve permanent unity.
The PPA boss urged Igbos from all walks of life to unite behind Njiko Igbo, no matter their party or religious affiliation.

He said this remained the only way to ensure that Ndigbo would this around triumph in what he described as “winnable war.”
The leadership of the party, in a statement yesterday by PPA National Secretary, Peter Ameh, disowned Gbalikuma, whom it said had been dismissed from the party.

It said Gbalikuma after his dismissal from the party later ran for the governorship election in Bayelsa State on the platform of African Renaissance Party (ARP).

Ameh said the party had only one National Chairman in the person of Nkire, who was elected at the party’s National Convention held in Abuja, on December 6, 2011, which was witnessed and approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The statement added that all the state Chairman of PPA throughout the federation, including Abuja, were solidly behind Nkire.
The party further said this would be the last time it would engage in explaining, who the leaders of PPA were.
