shocked...I see. You should visit Ghana next time maybe on ur way to 9ja. You will like it. Cheers
Sure! My brother Inlaw live there and always speak good about Ghana. Pls take some minutes and read the last post on page 9. It is a home run! the guy said it all. Most Nigerians don't hate Nigeria but hate the situation of things in Nigeria.

Well am glad to hear the last sentence about everyone in school. Now let me ask you, how many times have you made a call or visited anyone in charge when that same school go on strike? I guess none! and why is that? I guess because $h!7 don't work in naija unlike here where you can call and schedule an appointment to see the governor or even president (that might take you years). FYI I don't give hopes just for hope sake! I don't have solution to fixing Nigeria so I will leave that to people like you who do. I said in my last post that the US had helped me and my whole family and that is through me. I knew what my family was like before I moved here and I know the difference today! My dad was a retired Nigeria Airways staff that dealt with come today, come tomorrow until he passed to get his hard earned pension. Same education that took me two years even though I was also working took my sister 5 yrs as a full time student! I won't come on faceless forum to brag with you about what I had/have done for my family! And incase you didn't read that part in my last post, both God and satan forbid me dying for naija! Make anybody wey wan die go die, I no go die for naija period. I had an uncle who think like you and went home to fix $h!7 as a local government chairman! Very educated an well to do guy who was even ready to use his own money to build schools and hospital, he lasted only about 3 months before they killed him! Why? Because they said he's always on their way to make money! Each time he try to correct things, they turn around and tell him "na so we dey do for naija"
So in a knot shell, am not, will not be MLK for naija. It's OK to lay your life knowing people will benefit from it even if you die! As bad as America might be or treat blacks during MLK, me and you were able to know that name because MLK was an American and the world was watching! If he was a Nigeria, you won't know that name cux he will be killed within his first week of protest! Do you know Fela? Where is he today and what change do uou see in naija after all he said and did?

Guy, I go buy you hottie. cheesy

You have spoken well.

I only mentioned politician because thats the belief of a lot of "uninformed people".

If the Nigerians abroad are afraid to go home then its frankly to their gain or detriment as the case may be. So many Nigerians cannot

I don't know about loops and all but I'm pretty sure it happens everywhere in the world. Obama's daughters are more likely to go ivy league schools get very well paying jobs and remain in that upper class as compared to a middle class family whose girls have to take student loans to pay for college and that doesn't still guarantee them a step higher in the social ladder. Nevertheless.....point noted.

Please, what do you mean by average infrastructures? we may not have excellent infrastructure like the Americans or chinese but with the economy growing at 6.7% this year (one of the fastest in the world) and at a projected double digits in the few years to come, we'll get there.

Nahh don't tell yourself that lie. I wouldn't argue that Nigerians are the richest and the most comfortable African immigrants living in the US but i'm not going to agree with you that almost everyone is comfortable...

Mortgaging a house for 30 years is not necessarily what i define as success but oh well. everyone has their opinion no?

Well, good that you mentioned politicans - that's on your own accord, not that I referenced nor insinuated that, nevertheless, back to the status quo.

Exactly. Nigerians not coming home given "the current state of things", is rather to their gain than it's detrimental... Come one now, don't you think so? So many Nigerians cannot do what? Come home?

There goes the informed mentality I keep talking about. I'm not talking about that kind of barrier, I'm referring to economic barriers. Besides, the upper class will continue to be upper class, as long as the middle class can afford quality education, that's all that matters.

You're incorrect. Ivy League or not, that's highly irrelevant. Ivy league is not for everyone, TRUE and it's not a measurement for success either. It's not all top level execs or whatever that attended Ivy League. It's just overrated. Obama's daughter may be upper class, and Mary (example) may be lower class, class doesn't prevent neither from accessing educational loans.

Majority of loans today in the U.S. are from folks who are into professional areas such as Medicine, Law, Advanced Engineering, etc. Regular education for Mary (middle class), is easily affordable if Mary keeps within her limit YET quality education.

Average meaning average - standard GOOD ROADS, rail network, sufficient electricity (eliminate generators), good medical network, etc. That's what I mean by average, it doesn't have to be excellent superb but low quality isn't acceptable either.

I'm not saying every Nigerian is rich nor comfortable - it all depends how you define comfort. If comfort means, you have a room to sleep in, have a job to go to, have time for yourself, possibly family - the basic needs of life are met, then I have it on good authority that most Nigerians are living comfortable.

Like I said - Rich, Wealth, Success, etc are not absolute. There's not actual template for success. Everyone define success on whatever component they feel attached to. I can be paying rent in my home, YET, travel oversees for business, and I'm successful. I can be working - private or govt, paying mortgage pmts, have random investments etc, and still claim success.

Therefore, whether you're paying for a house for 30 years or not, if you define that as success, then so be it. Like I told you, homes have equity and that's what goes into someone's net worth. If we're to go by your idea - "mortagaging a home is not what you define as success", then the Dangotes, Otedolas, etc aren't successful because just like banks provide financing for home purchase, banks also finance their business... NO? Ask SLS who barred banks from loaning to large debtors such as Otedola, I guess he isn't successful after all.

You're right. You're entitled to yours while I'm entitled to mine, however, in same vein, please flaunt accurate stats and figures... VERY IMPORTANT...

You have completely lost it. Have you actually lived in Nigeria before. Nigeria is a country divided into 2. its either your rich or poor. if you have no source of income your ruined for life. dangote and the rest are only rich today because of the connections they had from the beginning. a poor man cant even be around a rich man in nigeria, not to talk of doing business with him. if it happens you get given the opportunity and your hardworking, only then will you make it depending on how efficient you are. in america there's so much opportunity, your offered a state benefit even if your not working, have u ever tried living in benin in a state of poverty where no one gives to Bleep about u. all you can think of is how to survive. america and other countries offers a poor man an opportunity to be great if only they can think logically. all a poor man can think about in nigeria is food for himself and family. i advice you to do your research. there's no way you can compare the living of an average man in US to nigeria. people only want to go back home just so they can invest what they have saved up or early retirement. The capital initially was difficult to raise in nigeria, thats why you find alot of people relocating.

I don't know you are comparing Nigeria's infrastructure to that of the US. The US is definitely more advanced...they are way older etc.

I actually wanted to dig deep and counter some of your points but I really have other stuff to do at the moment. I will just maintain my point that Opportunities are everywhere including Nigeria and that there's a whole lot more opportunities in Nigeria or any other African country that there is in any first world country. Secondly any Nigerian living in diaspora is there either to their gain or detriment, personally i'd rather live in Nigeria but hey! i'm not everyone, even some asians and arabs prefer america to their own home countries so it can't be different for Nigerians. Pretty good argument buddy...its clear i'm a Naij person and your not so yea...
May will say i'm being selfish, or 'dont want them to come' as most of our people do when I or any american born Nigeria tells them that they're wasting their time trying to come here. I figured I leave the truth out here because many of our people are dying, and ending up in prisons, more importantly committing unnesscary acts of desperation in the name of obodo oyibo while many that live here are trying to go back to Nigeria because they know the truth.

If you can make it in the US, you can make it in Nigeria

We too often attribute success to geographic location. While location is important for many things and some environments are more conducive than others, the US is not the place to come if you want to be rich, and more importantly if you want to be rich AVOID europe. The reason is because this is the land of the middle class. Going to school and working hard is going to land you in the middle class. You will live in a modest home, drive a modest car, and be able to cloth and feed yourself well. This is not rich. The problem in Nigeria is the middle class is rare so people don't know what it is.
Middle class people buy everything using loans for the bank. That's what you have to do in america. You don't own your home, you don't own your car, and you have to pay thousands for school after you finish. This is how many Nigerian Americans get 'trapped' in the US. Because they are middle class they can't pay off these loans quickly and it often takes decades to be debt free, but nearly all americans are in debt.
This is why many can't return as freely as they wish, and why many are dying from stress. In the US it's difficult to become rich for a black person. If you want to be rich here you start a business and hope it work, but there are so many businesses doing so many things that have been around for literally 100-50 years and are worth billions that it's hopeless to start because they will easily crush you.

Europe is even worst. Europe is a socialist system with very high taxes that keeps anyone from being too rich or too poor. You will live in comfort in the US and Europe but it's not a land of 'wealth', it's a land of order and function.

Those Nigerians that make it in the US or Europe are actually a rare and special breed. They have drive, a vision, opportunity and most importantly a plan. I will say that anyone with these traits will make it in Nigeria as well. The difference is your money goes further in Nigeria than it does in the US. A person worth 1 million USD in New York can still struggle to pay bills because they're so high. If you have 5000 USD in Nigeria you can live like Jay-z half a year.

Returnee Nigerians are Liars
Many Nigerians return from the west with sll types of clothes, new cars, and begin building homes in their villages. They create the illusion that they've 'made it', and use their return to flaunt their 'wealth' instead of helping their brethren. This is a lie. Don't believe them. These people know 2-3 years in advance they're going to Nigeria. It's then that they begin saving the money they will use to show off for December. I've know many that go to the bank and acquire loans so that they can buy objects they'll use to fake as if they're rich in Nigeria. Many will neglect their bills and debts so that they can keep up the image of someone that is rich in Nigeria. Many of the people in Nigeria flaunting are poor people.
This is the home of a Nigerian American i know

but they will behave as if they're Donald trump upon returning. This creates a false image that everyone in the Us, or even the majority of people have a lot of money. It's a lie. This is a very expensive place to live and most people are modest.

The Richest Nigerians are in Nigeria
As i said the place to look for wealth isn't in a new land. By the time you're done learning the customs and way things work here you'll be 50. You know Nigeria, you know the way it works, though few want to admit it you can make it in Nigeria. The richest nigerians in the world are from Nigeria, and don't bother themselves with the US. If you look at somebody like Dangote, Adenuga etc you will see they have one devious but consistent thing in common: connections to those in power. As a black person, and more importantly a Nigeria, you have to understand those in power are white and have no business bothering themselves with you. At least in Nigeria you can climb the social ladder more freely, you can't here. To become rich in America you need a great idea, something nobody has ever done before like an invention or a service and it has to make sense to the demand. If you have one of these....you'll make it in Nigeria as well.

Not Every Country is Rich, Be careful

Many people think any country with white faces is the US, and all European countries are good. BE CAREFUL this is a lie
Canada
US
UK
Australia
New Zealand

are the only country i would suggest for anyone. The rest are extremely dangerous and the people there have a hard time achieving anything due to poor economies and racism. Israel, Poland, Spain, Italy are all place that look nicer than Nigeria but suffer from the same unemployment and corruption. Many Nigerians feel they will get someone going to China not knowing that there are more unemployed Chinese than there are human beings in Nigeria. If you're not going to any of the countries on the list, don't waste your time. Many are going to places more corrupt and downtrodden than Nigeria like Russia where the poor remain poor for ever and the rich are rich forever. more importantly DO YOUR RESEARCH. I recently had a friend go to Yemen. Yemen is not only poorer than Nigeria but is one of the worlds more war torn nations. Many nigerians will go somewhere without knowing the name of the countries president. Not every oyibo country is 'ala beke'. Many might as well be in Africa. Be careful!

Don't come here for the wrong reasons.

If you want a quality education for the sake of knowing more (not getting rich), a stable consistent life, 24 hour power, stable employment, good health care, good infrastructure, and a life of routine and order this is the best place in the world to be. If you want to be extraordinarily rich, a 'big man/woman', relaxed, to have fun in life, have children that will carry on your name and culture, or even important back home, stay home. You can want all of these things but you can't have them all. Many Nigerians believe they can come here and enjoy the benefits without suffering the pitfalls, this isn't true. Most Nigerians in the west are stressed, unhappy, lonely, feel as if they don't belong, struggling, and have children that most likely won't take care of them when they're old. Many are very rich as well and have done well for themselves but they would have done the same back home. Even with 24/7 power supply you'll come to find that you'd rather be eating egusi in the dark because a lot of the west isn't worth it if you come for the wrong reasons.

Like i said, many have made it and this is a great place to live and raise children. It's not a place to become 'rich' but it's a good place to have a reasonable life without too much unpredictability. If you can't make it in Nigeria, you can't make it here, that's plain and simple and by the time you learn what it takes to make it here, it'll be too late. and again, be careful where you go, only a hand full of countries are better than Nigeria, i mean it.
How old are you..i guess your parent are still feeding you or you are one of the fortunate few in that hell hole. dont deceive others from pursuing their dreams of having a better life outside naija. Travel out and you will forever be ashamed of naija. Abeg that country is a huge joke

The word "Rich" was written fifteen times which shows the poster has problem with getting "rich" average Nigerian wants to be comfortable not "RICH".You guys should find something else to post and stop condemning and insulting people living abroad, calling "Nigerian returnee a lair" is derogatory and uncalled for, whatever they eat will never make you fat so stop calling a pity party.
Re: The Truth About Living Abroad by MegaMan2020: 3:29am On Dec 16, 2012
Most (most not all) "Nigerians" that were born and raised in Europe/America don't really know what it is to be Nigerian. most of them are either Americanized or wannabe Jamaicans. I lived in London for three years. I saw with my own eyes.

Anyway, I'm a proud Nigeria man. Born and raised in Lagos. I have family all over Yorubaland. I don't really care about those in the diaspora that mouth off. All I care is my country and my people.

God bless Nigeria!!!
Re: The Truth About Living Abroad by MegaMan2020: 3:35am On Dec 16, 2012
I don't even know why those from the diaspora even bother coming on a Nigerian website with their opinions. Their parents fled Nigeria and never looked back. Ask them to speak their native tongue..They won't have a clue. If they don't want to live in Nigeria it's no problem.

If we argue from today till tomorrow people will always have divergent views . For some people abroad is milk and honey for some its not and the same opinion for some people with regards to naija. In my honest opinion the reason why a lot of nigerians are finding it hard to survive in naija aside all the issues is the lack of discipline and birth control . As pointed out by a poster the woman selling boli will make on an average 2k a day but she prolly has 6 kids and a drunken husband and same goes for the man who works hard but has a wife who just stays home making babies. I work in a corporate establishment. You will see "ogas" having just 2 kids and the driver will have 12 kids I know 1 or 2 drivers with minimum 12 kids and 2 wives please tell me how they will ever overcome poverty. If you look at the civilized and developed worlds they have 1 or 2 kids they will beg some of them self to give birth. If we postulate and show data from now till eternity we will not agree . The irony is some of the diasporians have never visited naija and some people posting about slums in us/uk dont even know where the airport is. I am in Nigeria and I have never desired to live abroad because I dont get y I should give up a well paying job to relocate . But if some of us are willing to do that good for them . If some of us are willing to also stay in nigeria and make the best out of it good for us to .

Umm ....I totally agree as well as disagree with some of your highlight because Our systems (NIGERIA) is design for THIEVES like DANGOTE & ADENUGA whom no one can tells us how he arrives with his millions.

Abroad is hard work, design for progress and not going back if you have a plan and know the exit strategy, to me there's life if you can secure a job and have your STAY, along with good plans and SOLID SUPPORT NETWORK back home and not SPUNGGER writhing FAMILY & FRIENDS......Is that good.

How gsm you say you are rich in NIGERIA when there's no MEDICAL'S, I don't get it at all as you've missed out a Vital point, only the rich can afford to travel to thesame OBODO OYINBO you are Nagging for treatment.

Pls tell me where do our leaders goes for Medicals and where did NELSON MANDELA get all his treatment.....I beg you are on you own.

Let my people migrate and source for survival because NIGERIA is a land with CRIMINAL LEADERS that have no human feelings but all for themselves including SOME FAMILY'S AND SOME FRIENDS.

I couldn't just read and pass. If you have your priorities right, you won't regret a single day in America. Set short and long term goals and establish metrics to measure your progress. In no distant time, you will be counting your success. Living a quality live is not far fetch. Build a solid foundation and you will have the answers. Ask me how? Go get that education and skills you need to crack the nuts. Retire from the CNA or taxi driving business. Stop winding and start winning. You are your own success!!!

If we continue till forever we won't reach a unanimous agreement. I'm a Nigerian and I live here quite comfortably but truth be told, Nigeria is a failed state. It will be cheating to compare US or UK with Naija, haba, its like Grandpa and Grandpikin. Una fit use Ghana abeg. It takes travelling out of the country to actually know ow far back and undeveloped we are, Seriously. Nevertheless, the favoured ones still have their way. But corruption has stuck to this country like glue, nt that they in't corrupt abroad but chai!! our own to much or how 2.1billion naira take disappear for mint, wey oga no know?? Nigeria's just like a man with cassava farm who sells the cassava and they in turn sell garri to him at exorbitant prices. The level of education is incomparable even with Ghana except u buoyant enough to go to a private uni which only few can. Our lecturers are bunch of ppl with inferiority complex who believe cos they didn't make Second class, none of their students will/should. The only force ppl fear for here na Army, police na walk over. A robbery happened in my area for close to two hours with shootings and all, we call police oo, e be like say dem dey break. Oonly for them to show after robbers have gone asking us to borrow them our car for them to track the thieves that their patrol vehicle has broken down, IMAGINE!!!!! U travel out of ur home, switch off d lights and appliances for two months, dnt be surprised to meet PHCN bills for the two mnths u were away. I lost a friend to childbirth jst cos the hospital refused to transfuse blood into her without immediate payment. Take a trip to the general hspital for check-up, unless you sabi doctor for there, u fit die for the lobby. Pls dnt let us go on! Despite all this Gd still makes way for some, but I dnt blame you if u go lookn for greener pastures. All these corona, lekki-british, Avi-cenna, Green-springs schools, no be international standard dem dey use, none of them use Nigerian standard of education.
Yes if u have good idea, u can start a biz but serzly u only enjoy the reapings aat the early stage of start-up monopoly cos somebody will copy u and many others will follow suit, then the market becomes saturated, dts y most tyms its beneficial to travel abroad, learn the concept of continuity and then cm back home.

Bottomline: Nigeria is failed but the favoured will always press forward cos Isaac sowed in that same land and reaped a hundred fold, if u knw wt I mean.

I dont know why pples compare orange with apple, Nigeria with US, really anybody can become rich in either place, however, in term of opportunities i will give it to US. It is in US you will see that there is dignity in hard work and labor, you will see a barbers, hairdresser, laborer and other blue collar jobs living fine, riding their posh cars, living in good houses unlike in Nigeria. The minimum wage in Nigeria s $50 dollars a month, So more opportunities here that is why u see pples from all walk of life making US their home. A lot of Nigerian also work in many blue chip companies here many doles through hard work, good education and medical facilities....

Godogwu:

Nahh not atall. lets see, what exactly are you trying to achieve by ...showing all this tho?

HOW DARE YOU COMPARE YOUR HELL HOLE OF A NIGERIA TO MY AMERICAN PARADISE? kiss

1. its a fact I live in a way bigger and better house than you do (not bragging)

YOUR FATHER'S HOUSE. . .GO AND BUILD OR RENT YOURS! THEN COME TO NL AND HUFF AND PUFF. NO WONDER REETARDS LIKE YOURSELF ARE WORSHIPPED ALL OVER NL. . . FOR THE MONEY STOLEN BY YOUR PARENTS WITH GUNS AND PENS!!!! OLE OIL BLOCK-US! kiss

2. I may be just 19 but I'm worth more than you ever will have in the US at the moment( again...not bragging)

4. you are probably a dropout who couldn't make it Nigeria so you had to hustle and buy a one way ticket to the US.

Typical buffoon. . .instead of sticking to the topic. . .you resort to cheap insults. PHOCKING DUNCE! kiss

5. you either work at a restaurant, supermarket, or you are a nursing assistant...or you don't even have a job yeah?

A JOB IS A JOB. . . THE AMERICAN WAY. THERE IS ALWAYS DIGNITY IN LABOUR. GO AND ENJOY YOUR 'GBESE' NIGERIAN GBI-LLOINAIRESHIP!

lets just end it there for now.

In your dreams! YOU LOUSE! kiss

I am trying to teach you 'morals'. . .ONLY THIEVES SURVIVE IN NIGERIA!!! OR YOU ARE AN ACCOMPLICE! kiss
Still living on your village philanthropy huh? No wonder. cheesy
What do you have to brag about in Nigeria. . . .BUT STOLEN SIPHONED INHERITANCE? undecided
Please, when you can work like the average AMERICAN TEENAGER. . .gimme a holla.
Now, go back to 'suck' some milk for breakfast or lunch. . .where ever you are!

Nor be ya mate be this? A FEMALE TOO!grin Make you siddon for NL dey waste both 'brain' and 'spe-rm' cells mastu-b-ating in the Romance and Sexuality sections of NL from year to year! kiss
Mtcheeeeeeeeeeeew!!!
