philips70: Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State and former National Security Adviser Andrew Owoye Azazi apparently died in a helicopter that crashed today in Bayelsa State, a reliable source has told SaharaReporters.

Governor Yakowa and Mr. Azazi, a retired military general who served as chief security adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, were among passengers in the ill-fated helicopter.

Nigeria's National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) had earlier indicated that the agency had activated a search for a crashed helicopter.

Our sources had earlier disclosed that the crashed chopper was carrying “some major political figures.” As at the time of going to press, Saharareporters was unable to confirm the identity of any other passengers in the ill-fated chopper.

Governor Yakowa and Mr. Azazi were among many political figures who reportedly attended the burial of the father of senior presidential aide Oronto Douglas. The funeral event took place in the Nembe area of Bayelsa State earlier today. SaharaReporters learnt that the crashed helicopter was one of several helicopters that some well-connected people to the funeral.

The crash comes on the heels of a plane crash on October 25, 2012 that has left Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State brain-damaged. Mr. Suntai was moved to a hospital in Germany where he remains in poor shape, unable to recognize his visitors or to speak.

I'm not scared of dying and since I haven't robbed the poor and made your country the land of the living dead, I doubt your curse will come to pass. You and your family are the next to die sorrowful deaths; get burnt into ashes, muthaphucka.

I only feel sad about the helicopter because it's worth millions of dollars. The money would have fed thousands of starving mouths in that hellhole. sad

So unfortunate that an educated man is thinking like that. you forgot that Mamman Ali ex. gov. of Yobe died in office, yar ardua died in Office. yakowa's predecessor as Deputy Gov died in Office. One funny thing about Danbaba's Accident is that some months back, he accused his predecessor and friend Jolly nyame for doing a bad job of the Jalingo Airport and as someone with expertise he wasted the state's fund to do a chainlike for him to continue his hobby leading to his brain death. Indeed someone just posted the death of Sullivan Chime, is it a Muslim conspiracy that killed him.
Richboi a member of this forum lost his sister alongside hundreds of Nigerians, Obsanjo lost his wife, many nigerians died ala sosoliso, bellview, Eas and several ADC crashes inculding the sultan of sokoto. Is it the handiwork of christains? who knows may be it is the fear of kidnappers that prevented them from doing proper checks before take off leading to the crash.

Our system is messed up, the earliar we look at it as a collective problem the betteer for us.

It has been reported that the ill-fated helicopter, that the governor of Kaduna state, Patrick Yakowa, a former National Security Adviser, Owoye Azazi, and four others, were travelling in, burst into flames, before plunging into the creeks.

The Presidency released a statement last night, confirming that Yakowa and Azazi, and their aides, Dauda Tsoho and Mohammed Kama; and the pilots, Murtala Daba and Adeyemi Sowole, reportedly died in the crash. Eye witnesses say they were burnt beyond recognition.

The chopper is owned by the Nigerian Navy and is said to have been shuttling repeatedly between Port Harcourt, Yenogoa and Okoroba, the town where an aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Oronto Douglas, was burying his father over the weekend. The governor and the former Security chief, were on their way to Port Harcourt, enroute Abuja.

Multiple reports say the carrier wobbled shortly after it stabilized in air and then plummeted into the swamps around 2.30pm.

This is the third air disaster this year, after a Dana plane crashed on June 3, killing all 153 passengers on board. Another crash which involved Taraba State’s governor, Danbaba Suntai, occured in October, leaving him brain-dead.

It is very sad for Africa, no wonder we are so behind in everything. We prefer to be superstitious than to be rational thinking human beings. This is not an abnormal incidence in NIGERIA, this is just another sign of how rotten our institution and governance is in Nigeria. It is because the victims are top political figures that all these stupid conspiracy theories are cropping up. THe history of crashes in Nigeria suggests things like this will keep happening until wake up and address institutional failure

History of Non-Commercial air Crash
January, 2010: A Nigerian Navy Agusta reconnaissance helicopter crashed in the swamps of Mmiri Ochiochi in Obodo Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State 3 Naval officers

September 16 2006: Air Force plane crashed in Benue State killing Army generals.
November 10, 2006: A six-seater helicopter belonging to Odengene Air Shuttle (OAS) crashed in Delta State, killing two people.

March 14, 2002: A helicopter belonging to the Joint Task Force (JTF) crashed in Kabong, Jos, killing all members on-board including four senior police officers.
August 2, 2007: Bristow-owned helicopter crashed inside ExxonMobil facility in Port Harcourt

November 10, 2006: OAS Service Helicopter crashed in Warri, Delta state killing four on board
September 17, 2006: An 18-seater Dornier 228 Air Force transport plane, carrying 15 senior army officers and three crew members crashed in Benue State, leaving only three survivors.

January 28, 2005: A Nigeria Air Force fighter plane crashed into a farmland in Yar Kanya, Kano State.
January 17, 1996: Ibrahim Abacha, son of Sani Abacha, was killed in a plane crash.

September 26, 1992: Nigerian Air Force A C-130 plane crashed minutes after take-off from Lagos. All 200 on board killed.

If we are a people with any sense at all, then we would start thinking of how to secure our airspace rather than postulating stupid theories.Yakowa, Azazi and Suntai are just the new victims, if we continue this way, there are likely to be more.

May the dead RIP.

Conspiracy theorists are already having a field day with this tragedy. People have started implying that BH may be behind this and suggesting that BH used this occasion to get rid of Azazi, who tried to expose them and was fired for doing so, and Yakowa, who has kept them in check in Kaduna - BH essentially killed 2 birds with a single shoulder carried grenade launcher, the proverbial stone. SMH

BH is indeed overrated. GEJ, GEJ, GEJ!!!!! How many times I call ya name? We are at war sir, please lead us like a true general. You are the commander in chief. Sorry to say, but General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye will not join the army and fight for you.

tajikwan411: @ try69, why are u so religious about this matter? you are so behind time to comment in this forum. Lets ask ourselves some frank questions:

why must anyone airborne a military aircraft if not on a military mission?

is a burial ceremony visit a military mission?

why should a military aircraft be airborne by people order than trained military personnel?

please note, whenever a military aircraft is airborne, it must be on a mission, so the air is now jinx for all the big fish who will be flying until the right thing is done on our roads, more of the dignitaries will die, because Nigerians are raining curses on them and Almighty God is just, so they will die with their billions!
oga, azazi was a General and yakowa was a serving governor
I don't understand what you mean by "religious", did muslims tell you they support BH?
Reports coming in says the copter exploded in the air before coming down, now what do you say about that?
Muslims in KD are saying yakowa was not a bigot..so when I say BH, I mean a terrorist group and not muslims

Nonybb: Its time they start plying our roads in other to enjoy the potholes we nigerians see as road. My condolences to his late excellency. As my friend would say, yakowa would probably be in heaven singing and offering praises to almighty God, and if azazi and the rest of his orderly crew were a true muslim would probably be having their own portion of sex in aljannah kingdom with houris provided as an eternal reward from allah. Although this comes with conditions if u were able to maim or kill more infidels to please holy allah lol. Wat an ambiguity in religion. This is jst a subjective thinking and no harm intended plz oh
No harm intended indeed.
