Because the impunity did not start with GEJ doesn't mean it should be further encouraged under him. GEJ partly takes responsibility for this mishap cos he is the C in C to the armed forces who permitted the use of a military aircraft for "kabukabu" services.

dude, traditions change as u become more enlightened. Even if it has been like dat from time immemorial,it is wrong. If GEJ can use his office to do whatever he likes, then where is the accountability and prudence?. If people close to him can abuse public office and resources , then it falls on his table. In a saner climate, the FG would have been sued by the pilot/copilot's families. 15 trips in a day for a private event? come on . It is total abuse of office. All police and military services should be FREE to the citizenry . They are paid for from your taxes. A responsible govt will not use these services with impunity or allow rich private citizens to abuse them.

In a nutshell, GEJ's administration is still failing in that regards. His efforts are commensurate to his capabilities and political will.

Maybe you didn't get my post! First, it is completely in order for the president to use it. It is within his rights and priviledges. Obama use military helicopters anytime it is required! That is the priviledge of the commander in chief

For the politicians, I agree it is a different cup of tea. But 2 things I want to make clear are

1. The president does not sit in his office allocating choppers to his aids. Even his own use of choppers are arranged by his protocol team. So the article is misleading. The politicians get access to those choppers and military services because of the way our whole national psyche works. We have a nation where people worship leaders in power. Those requests are made by politicians to the military and they are granted by the military leaders, not by presidency! It isn't right, but that is how we have been as a nation. Itt is the culture of "You scratch my back, I scratch your back". The military are not forced or cajoled to release the craft like the article want to suggest!

2. The military also provides these services as commercial services to the public. Even in America, the military provides a lot of commercial services for those who can afford it. The difference is that, the military personnel are not misused or direspected like you find in Nigeria. Most of those politicians pay for the services. It isn't always free.

The military's free services to the public only include their duties to the public as specified by the constitution and other law documents. Arguments must be put in proper perspective. 15 trips a day for example is ridiculous! That is just stupid especially on the part of the Navy! The real truth is that the Navy hierachy themselves are benefitting a lot from it, that is why they will condone it! No governor or politician can command a rear admiral to release a chopper! It is a give and take situation.

Overall, the whole culture of misuse and abuse is wrong and I will never support that, but the debate must be put in proper perspective!

You sir, are one of the reasons why this country is retrogressing.

You are one of the reasons why GEJ will justify having almost 10 presidential aircraft in his fleet while the nation is without a national carrier.

You are one of the reasons why the senators and reps will have about 3 brand new exotic official cars each, collect millions of naira every month, & still tell us it is not enough.

You are one of the reasons why David Mark will justify buying the official residence he lived in during the last senate (at a tiny fraction of the price of course) & still allocate money to build another massive one which he will still buy by 2015.

You are one of the reasons why d presidency or whoever has the audacity to submit a request for an EXTRA 9 BILLION naira for the VICE president's house.

Perks of office my foot. Ask the countries that are developed how many jets(if any) they have. Ask they if they use military aircraft for burial ceremonies. Ask the legislators how much they earn & the type of official car (its definitely one if any) they drive. Then you'll know just how much our leaders take us for fo..ols in this country with the active du..mb support of people like YOU.

It is a culture; a long-held culture, and its gat to STOP....
