ebigide means ''long life''

anine is what we call ''alale''.it is very traditional and has been replaced by chile.its kind of calling upon God as a witness

Oweniwe, as you know, there are many dialects within Ndigbo. There are some names my people bear which only those from Isinweke will understand. For example, Nwoyokoruwa, Akamanughi, Ojahia, Ukworu etc. There is a Delta Igbo guy from Ukwuani who am sure will know better. His username is Paddy lo. Heis a very proud Igbo and use to contribute in the Igbo trade. But sice January I have not been seeing his post.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm wondering how i'll go back to january- six months ago to consult paddy lo (i'm just joking o) lipsrsealed So who knows the meaning of ISHICHELI?

Stumbled on this thread and the name[b] 'Ejitu'[/b] appears to be an enigma. Have taken pain to go through the thread from the very beginning.

I have a little twist to the meaning of that name. I think its technical spelling is 'Ejitugh', just like 'Ikwuechegh', which is usually spelt without the last two letters. Ejitugh means, 'cannot be held down, suppressed, stopped, etc.

Geria ma kwuwe in full: listen carefully before speaking.
Orikaeze: This name is very popular amongst Delta Igbo folks. It means one who dines like a king.
Kinikanwo: Very common amongst Rivers Igbos-What is greater than a child.
Zelunjo-very common in Anambra- Avoid evil.
Uwanta--Very common among Afikpo and Ohafia people- It means the world is a global village.
Iheanaetu--what one desires. Very common in Obowu and Isinweke areas.

HEOMA (HOMA)--something good. This name is prominent in the Rebisi/Diobu areas of Igboland.
Some areas in Igboland call it Iheoma while some call Ifeoma.

Korie--Man born on Orie or man who shines on Orie days.
Konkwo--in relation to Nkwo day.
Keke--in relation to eke day
Kafo--in relation to Afor day.
The above names are known as Okorie, Okonkwo, Okeke and Okafor in other Igbo areas.
