Do Other Countries Go For Cross Over Night On 31st Dec ? by ffo(m): 9:39pm On Jan 01, 2013
In Nigeria, Christians go to church on the eve of the 31st of Dec, some Muslims (esp in South west) also gather (Nasfat, etc) for prayers, even pagans and atheist also gather some in stadiums, etc to witness and count down to 1st of Jan.

I have been wondering and thinking about this for a while. Fellow Nairalanders, i will like to know if watch night (New year eve)/cross over night (where people gather to pray till 1st of January) is only peculiar or practiced only in Nigeria and maybe other parts of Africa (like there was stampede in Ivory Coast yesterday night). Is this norm also practiced in the western world or in some other countries of the world.

thanks

Depends.

Prayers and worship... yes. That is a standard everywhere.

Partying and clubbing... yes. Most countries

Fireworks and displays.... yes. Western and Eastern countries focus a lot on this

PS: there was no govt coordinated fireworks display in Lagos this crossover... what happened? I was looking forward to it cry
