The meeting was not held in Lagos. At least the article did not posit that. It's Lagos based Igbos that met with him. The article did not say where they met him.

Some peeps finds it difficult to fathom simple english.

The article said the State House Correspondant.
Or was GEJ in Lagos yesterday?

Simple truth is that meeting was held in the State House in the Aso Villa..
Ndigbo have been subjected to a grave insult.
Never in this world will nigeria have a meeting about the north in Onitcha
It will never have a meeting about the West in Maidugari
it's now the south east that you'll go to Lagos to discuss. GEJ doesn't have my vote. confirmed
Is there any Igbo leader living in SE states?

Wise and talented Nigerian's All is well and okay. But there is no cause of alarm , and there should not bee. All is for the betterment of Nigeria and the result of the said transformation. "Think" "Talk" Room was not build a day. You know ,I know our past Nigeria cannot be change but We can change our tomorrow Nigeria, by our actions of day. We should never let yesterday use up too much of today. Fear not Nigerian's Even if there are persons who ,secretly aware of their own inadequacies , want to stand in Mr President way and Prevent Him from making progress. Nigeria will progress. then, prosecute not God for making him a President of Nigeria. God know better than you.

Sincere 9gerian: This is part of the reason I like this president. Very humble, simple, unassuming, approachable and fatherly.

In fact, Mr president is just like the next door neighbour.

If not that he may be targetted for assassination by some devils from the international community (because of PIB and other issues) and the far north, he would have been more visible around the country and move in convoys of not more than one or two vehicles

There is a reason why he needs to contract out to an Israeli outfit or if he doesn't trust them, he can go to the Russians. So this way, he can agree not to tamper with the steel mill, and also agree to allow only Russian firms build our nuclear reactors. But seriously grin i didn't think he was scarred already. No one wants to kill him. Just be 4uckn bold and do what others have done. Now he knows what it takes to have a heart like Abacha or Ghaddafi.

Sincere 9gerian:

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday met with Igbo elders from Lagos State over development of the South East and improvement of infrastructure in the region.

How are these people going to speak for the real people on ground? All the listed wants might not be what the people really wanted. That is why government has been getting it wrong all along. No community participation and collaboration. The right people are not consulted and carried along.

^^^Correction: Port Harcourt Airport is in a pathetic state! shocked

Though we have to conceed that the President is trying, and is the first Nigerian head of state since the end of the civil war to give Port Harcourt Airport the much needed attention: i'm talking of the refurbishment works at the ancient terminal building, and plans for a new one.....built with part of the 106 billion naira chinese loan.

Ordinarily, if this was a country where things were done fairly, Port Harcourt should not have waited till now to have a world-class airport; and by rights it should have the best in the country given that it's the capital of the region that has sustained this country since the late 60's.

PS- how you manage enter Tonto Dikehs bedroom, and wetin carry you go there undecided?

Sincere 9gerian: Jonathan had a closed door meeting with some Igbo elders.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday met with Igbo elders from Lagos State over development of the South East and improvement of infrastructure in the region.

In an interview with State House correspondents after the closed door meeting, the President General of Ndigbo, Lagos,. Anya O. Anya said that the Aba Power Projects , the state of the roads in the region as well as the resuscitation of rail lines topped the agenda.

“On the issue of power, we wanted to be sure that there is no modification to the plan for the Aba Power Project in terms of the agreement.

“In the next 10 months, the project will be ready. So, when you start tampering with a project that is almost finished, you might perhaps be saying nothing will happen.

“We don’t want that to happen; not in the area of power and the President has given us his assurance. We are quite satisfied,” he said.

Mr. Anya, a former Vice Chancellor and former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group said the response from the President is encouraging.

“If Nigerians knew the responsiveness of the President to issues like this, maybe people will recognise that perhaps a lot is being done.

“I must confess that some of the things we were told are on-going, we did not know they were there,”he said.

Mr. Anya said there is a need for more flow of information betweenthe government and the governed.

Other elders in the delegation include the Chairman of MTN, Pascal Dozie; Sam Ohabunwa; Raymond Ebiere; and former Chief of Naval Staff, Allison Madueke.

Igbo leaders my foot! When did Pascal Dozie become an Igbo leader? With all his billions, what has he done in his state that is worthy of commendation?

Re: Jonathan Meets Igbo Elders Over South-east Development by nagoma(m): 3:33pm On Jan 11, 2013
Who are these Igbo Elders? Who selected or elected them, why did they go to see the president and what were they expecting to achieve? What have they achieved?

1. Nigeria is practicing a presidential democracy in a federation of 36 states and one federal administrative territory. The president heads the government with the executive arm directly under him supported by Ministers and advisers who are selected experts from all over nigeria. And we all know very well how the parliamentary arm of government both at federal and state level are composed.
2, there about 250 well defined tribes in Nigeria but by a deliberate effort to encourage unity and democratic representation the tribes have no formal role in governance. So why were these old men so desperate to see the president with the agend of influencing his official role of governing the country in an undemocratic way?
3. What is the role of their senate members, reps, governors and state assemblies?
4. We know very well from recent history that these self proclaimed elders will not allow the development to happen in the SE even if the president ignores the constitution and listens to them. They will highjack what ever major projects happen to be given by bringing their own contractors ( as they made it possible by seeing the president) . Less than 10% of real work will be done while billions will go into the building of more hotels in Abuja , Lagos and PH and of course into restocking of spare parts shops. They don't mean well at all.
5a. Now where is General Murtala when you need him?. All these so called elders should have been locked up with immediate effect! (a) For attempting to influence the President outside the country's democratic framework and at the expense of other citizens since everything comes from the same budget pot. (2) for wasting the President's time. We know our president ,even after almost 3 years in the office , is still warming up to start real work as he said, and we also know that the president needs like 1000 days in each year to do an effective job. So they are really short changing the nation by wasting his time.
5. After their detention they should go back to their elected representatives and present their suggestions/ complaints according to their states and not according to tribes. Thank you.
