Some say GEJ has not done anything, others say he has not done enough but the REALITY on ground is that President Jonathan is working. GEJ inherited a moribund country and started working right from day one and has never looked back since then.

Expectedly, those who are blinded by ethnic, party loyalty or other primordial sentiments, have continued to deny the obvious progress being made in several sector. On my part, as a patriotic Nigeria, I'll continue to EMBARRASS these few but NOISY see-no-good and hear-no-good disgruntled elements.

Therefore, I decided to highlight the achievements of GEJ in the last 2 to 3yrs to further embarrass the HATERS and to remind fair minded and unbiased persons of our past and present.

1) Electoral Reforms: before GEJ came to power, elections in Nigeria were shamelessly and brazenly rigged. Elections were do-or-die affair and ALL results were announced at Abuja or state capital. The last election that was conducted just before GEJ came to power was the Ekiti gubernatorial re-run in 2009. I got the following excerpts from a report on that election which was also shamelessly rigged, consistent with past elections:

....“My conscience as a Christian will not allow me to further participate in this process ” It was with these words that Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo resigned her appointment as the Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner on April 28 2009. A series of events followed which has left every one in doubt of just what value Mrs. Adebayo’s conscience isworth. It all came to a climax yesterday when she shamelessly and without recourse to her hitherto advertised Christian Conscience announced and returned Segun Oni of the PDP as winner of the protracted gubernatorial re-run election...
http://nzesylva./2009/05/06/the-re-branding-of-conscience-ayoka-adebayo-as-a-case-study/

GEJ came to power and immediately instituted a clean up of our electoral system. Whereas in the past it was unthinkable for the ruling PDP or incumbents (that have not fallen out of favour with Abuja) to lose elections, elections are now fairly contested with possibility of opposition parties winning, courtesy of the reforms carried out by GEJ. As at the last count, opposition parties, under this new dispensation, won state gubernatorials elections in Anambra (2010), Nasarawa, Ogun, Oyo, Edo (2012), Ondo, etc and several legislative elections.

Still on the issue of elections, let me conclude by stating that the benefits of free and fair elections in any country are ENORMOUS and outweighs EVERY OTHER 'dividends' of democracy. Leaders who emerge from the people's vote will most likely work for the people, deliver projects that'll benefit the majority, and will be less corrupt. Free and fair elections also guarantees political stability and political stability is the ONLY recipe for sustainable development. Therefore, THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS AT ALL LEVELS.

2) Electric Power Supply: Personally, I'm so excited about some of the reforms that have taken place in the power sector in the last 2 to 3yrs. The govt of GEJ inherited a seriously challenged power sector. The average power generation as at 2009/2010 was below 3,000megawatts as attested in the following reports:

"To help put things in comparative perspective, Nigeria’spower demand is estimated at about 15,000 MW but as at September 2009, peak generation supplied by PHCN was 2,443 MW –less than 17% of our electricity need is currently being supplied¡"
http://www.nasirschronicles.com/?p=85

"As at 2010, Nigeria was generating about 2,800MW. But in April of 2011, the quantum of available power moved to 3,800MW, a record 1,000MW addition in one year"
http://www.newswatchngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4224&Itemid=42

GEJ immediately went to work using a well thought out Power Road as the template to transform the sector. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the regulator of the sector, which was previously unknown, has been reformed with energetic and credible leadership and is now a house-hold name. The 17 successor PHCN companies are being privatised in an unprecedented transparent process. The Transmission Company of Nigeria has been concessioned to Manitoba while the Bulk Purchaser has been created to buy power in bulk from power private power generation companies and engender confidence for private sector participation in the sector. The NIPP projects (power plants, distribution and transmission facilities) and gas projects are being pursued with renewed vigour and urgency to bring many of them to quick completion.

Consequently, power generation peaked recently at 4,500MW and many Nigerians have acknowledged improved power supply to their homes and offices.

5) Road Sector: though the govt inherited a network of dilapidated federal roads, it has intervened massively in the sector. Many of the ongoing projects the govt inherited have been brought to COMPLETION, including: Vom-Manchok road (Plateau State), Yola-Numan road (Adamawa State), Gombe Bye-pass (Gombe State), KadunaRefinery road (Kaduna State), Kano-Daura-Mai Adua road (Katsina State), Aba-Owerri road(Abia State), Onitsha-Owerri road (Anambra State) and Oyo-Ogbomosho road (Oyo State).

Massive work is ongoing in various other highways in the 6 geo-political zones, including ongoing dualisation of Abuja–Abaji–Lokoja Road, Kano–Potiskum–Maiduguri Road; the Benin–Ore–Shagamu Expressway; the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway; and the construction of the Loko–Oweto bridge( across River Benue), East-West road, etc

Bad portions on almost all federal roads all over the country, not mentioned above, were fixed under a massive intervention called Project Safe Passage. Those who doubt the impact of Project Safe Passage should just interview any nearby long distance driver.

6) Aviation: the aviation sector has received unprecedented intervention including (some still ongoing):

**The re-modelling of 11 airports including Enugu, Owerri, Benin,Lagos, Kano, Yola, Jos, PH, Kaduna, Calabar, Lagos and Abuja. Some of these airports have been completed and commissioned.

**creation of new privately owned national carriers

**building of aerotropolis (cities around the airports) thru PPP

**construction of designated cargo airports

**construction of 4 new international airport terminals in PH, Abuja, Lagos and Kano

**institutional reforms.

3) Rail Transport: the rail transport sector has received MASSIVE intervention in the last 2 to 3yrs. Only recently the Lagos-Kano rail was completed and commissioned. The govt spent a whopping N24billion to rehabilitate and restore the Lagos-Kano rail line after decades of dilapidation.
http://www.nanngronline.com/section/general/fg-spends-n243bn-on-rehabilitation-of-railway-track-md

Mr president made known his intent to revolutionalise the rail transport sector as early as March 2011 when he commissioned the first set of new locomotive engines and launched completed rail lines. This was widely reported and one of such reports states:

..President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday in Lagos commissioned the newly acquired locomotive engines of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), breathing life into the hitherto comatose rail sector....The President also used the occasion to embark on a 98km train ride from the NRC headquarters at Ebute Metta, Lagos, to Abeokuta in Ogun...
http://allafrica.com/stories/201103140942.html

Other massive interventions in the rail sector include:

**Inter-city passenger train services have been introduced in Minna-Kaduna route, Kaduna-Kano route and Kano-Nguru route; while intra-city services are already operational in Lagos, Kaduna and Kano states.

The Minna-Kaduna route for instance generates about N500,000 per trip up from initial N14,000 per trip when train services started along that route about a year ago.

http://premiumtimesng.com/news/116884-nigeria-railway-generates-n500-000-per-trip-on-minna-kaduna-route.html

**Abuja-Kaduna fast rail line now at 50% completion.

**mass transit Abuja Light Rail system is expected to be completed in 2014

**The Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri rail line (fast line) is expected to be completed in 2013.

**Port-Harcourt-Enugu-Makurdi-Lafia-Jos-Gombe-Maiduguri rail-line is expected to be completed late 2013.

4) Education: while most greedy public office holders along with their cronies are setting up privately owned universities where students pay outrageous fees, GEJ is creating additional federal universities to improve access to higher education for all and sundry.

Already, 9 brand new federal universities have been created in the last 2yrs. They include:

Federal University ,
Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi state;
Federal University , Lokoja Kogi state;
Federal University , Lafia, Nasarawa state ;Federal University, Kashere, Gombe state;
Federal University, Wukari, Taraba state; Federal University , Dutsin-Ma, Katsina
state; Federal University , Dutse, Jigawa state; for Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti state and; Federal University, Otuoke Bayelsa state

Most of these universities have employed non-academic and academic staff and taken their pioneer students.

http://prnigeria.com/2012/08/08/federal-university-kashere-holds-maiden-matriculation/

Also recently, the govt approved the creation of additional 3 new universities in Kebbi, Yobe and Zamfara.

The govt is not just creating new universities, existing universities are receiving increased funding like never before. All existing universities enjoyed 40% increase in their funding last year. In addition, select higher institutions recieved extra funds for infrastructural upgrade as explained in details by the report below:

"12 tertiary institutions on the principle of one university and one polytechnic or College of Education from each of the six geo-political zones would receive N3bn each for universities and N1billion each for the rest.

Universities to benefit include University of Lagos, Anambra State University, Uli; University of Calabar, Kebbi State University of Science & Technology, Aliero; Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola and Benue State University, Makurdi.
Polytechnics include the Polytechnic Ibadan, Federal Polytechnic Kauran Namoda; Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa. While Colleges of Education to benefit from the special funding include Alvan Ikoku College of Education Owerri; Delta State College of Education, Agbor and Bauchi State College of Education, Azare"
http://www.universitiesnews.com/2012/08/10/nigeria-fg-increases-funding-to-universities-others-by-over-40-percent/

Other interventions in the education sector include:

**Rehabilitation and upgrading of facilities at select Federal Unity Colleges

**Implementation of the Almajiri Education Programme through the construction of new Almajiri Schools all over the North and the South-West Zones. 32 Almajiri schools have already been constructed in the phase 1 while 60 more Almajiri schools are currently being constructed in 16 states of the Federation.

Still on ROAD CONSTRUCTION, a particular notorious road in the southeast deserves some special mention. The Onitsha-Owerri was so bad that in 2007 the then governor of Imo state, Ikedi Ohakim, asked all Igbos to pay N100 to fix the road. This was widely reported and one of such reports states:

Ndigbo to pay N100 each for Onitsha-Owerri road.
.....................

RESORTING to their famed self-help spirit, Ndigbo have started mobilizing funds to complete the Onitsha-Aba Expressway (section of Onitsha-Owerri road) abandoned by the federal government.

Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State, who made this known over the weekend in Lagos, said that every taxable Igbo adult will be expected to pay N100 each towards the project.

According to the governor, who said that he is leading the initiative, the highway was abandoned by Julius Berger, the construction giants handling it after the federal government paid only about N1 billion out of the more than 4 billion work that they had done on the project....CHAMPION NEWS, July 2007

http://www.champion-newspapers.com/news/article_5.htm
https://www.nairaland.com/67791/built-imo-airport-now-going

Igbos all over the world heaved a big sigh of relief after the GEJ govt completed that road. One of the reports that captured the completion of the road states:

...The Federal Ministry of Works said in the Anambra State capital, Awka, on Friday that the Onitsha–Owerri expressway project had reached 97 per cent completion.

The Federal Controller of Works in Anambra, Mr. Elliot Idubor, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the ministry was glad that PAINS and AGONIES of road users on the route had become a thing of the past.

Idubor said, “I can categorically tell you that the Onitsha-Owerri road project is virtually complete, it is 97 per cent completed.

“Users of that road can now travel to Owerri from Onitsha in 40 minutes. Unlike what used to be the case, they now enjoy pleasurable ride.”....PUNCH, July 2012

Goodluck Jonathan's Administration is now the most corrupt in the history of Nigeria. Look at this analysis:

ANALYSIS

Crude oil production per day 2.5 million

Current price per Barrel 113 US dollars

Daily oil revenue 2.5 x 113 = 282.5 million US dollars

Monthly Sales 282.5 million X 30 days = 8.475 billion

Yearly Sales 8.4475 billion X 12 = 101.7 billion US dollars

Naira equivalent 101.7 billion X 160 naira = 16.272 trillion naira per year

Nigeria's Budget for 2012 = 4.5 trillion naira

Surplus money 16.272

- 4.5

11.772 trillion naira

So, Goodluck Jonathan answers this question: Where is the surplus money of 11.772 trillion naira every year?

The question is: what is Goodluck Jonathan doing to stop this day light burglary of public trust and looting of public treasury by his cronies, allies, friends, and acquaintances? I rest my biro-pen for now.

See what hate has turned you to. So because oil price is $113 per barrel, government gets $113 dollars for every barrel of crude mined? Have you subtracted the cost of production of a barrel of crude? Have you subtracted cost of sales? How many percent of the revenue so derived is due to the joint venture partners who operate the various mining leases? It is people like you that misinform the ill educated and ignorant ones.

In case you don't know, government only charges a percentage of the profit from sale of crude oil as tax from the oil companies operating in the upstream sector and the companies keep what is left.

Just for your information, I ENJOY posting these comments, just the same way I enjoy watching football and lawn tennis. All that I posted this evening had been on my mind for sometime but for the patience and time to put them together. I'm glad I used the opportunity of watching todays AFCON matches to pour out my heart again on NL.

When I say I'm not being paid, some of you dont believe me. I dont know why but it may be because some of you are being paid to take positions on NL.

As a medical doctor, I'm a fulfiled man. But I wouldn't mind receiving extra pay for doing what I enjoy. I enjoy supporting GEJ and if I can get extra pay for supporting him or for time spent on the internet, I wouldn't mind. But if I dont get extra pay, I still dont mind.

But the MOST IMPORTANT thing for me is that I enjoy doing what I do. I got a strong feeling of personal satisfaction from opening this thread and reading the contents again and again. Thats what matters. I dont care what people think or say.

All of Nigeria's previous governments have been horrible and it is quite naive to expect that one guy will just come in and change all that so I decided to focus on the good, GEJ can steal all the money he wants just as long as he puts the work required to help Nigeria grow even if only half heartedly, God knows no one before him ever really did anything. The GDP per capita in Nigeria is about 2000 USD, we are some of the poorest people in the world and that is so sad. If GEJ gives us non stop electricity this term then he would have in a single bout been Nigeria's best president ever because it would mean SMEs would be able to thrive better and the standard of living would double, more than anyone else can say. He seems to be doing well, stop nit picking, talking about his grammatical boo boos and his many fails, if there seems to be but a single thing good about him then we have been blessed because in the past we have been cursed with the most illiterate and unpatriotic of leaders, I am personally liking Jonathan, he is making many committees but bothering with discovery and experts helps.

This is not to say I am OK with him stealing money per se but rather than take away from time he may spend doing one good thing for Nigeria or another why don't you go and investigate where the money has gone or shut up.

Nigeria: Uproar Over N4 Billion Budget for First Lady's Office

There was anger on the floor of the Senate Thursday when the chamber opened the debate on the 2013 budget for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which contained a whopping N4 billion allocated to the construction of an office for the First Lady.

Neither the wife of a serving president who serves as first lady, nor her office, is accorded any form of recognition in the 1999 Constitution, which makes the N4 billion allocation illegal.

Other contentious issues contained in the budget were N7.5 billion earmarked for the construction of the Abuja city gate as well as N150 million for the renovation of vice-president guest house in Asokoro, Abuja.

A recent allocation of N9 billion for the building of the vice-president's official residence had generated anger among Nigerians who described it as outrageous and insensitive to the plight of the citizenry.

While opening the debate on the 2013 FCT budget, Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, had implored his colleagues to support N253 billion Appropriation Bill for FCT in 2013.

The budget allocated N155 billion to capital expenditure, N49 billion to overhead costs and N48 billion to personnel costs.

However, Senator Babajide Omoworare condemned the allocation of N4 billion for the first lady's mission building, describing it as scandalous.

According to Omoworare, the allocation was nothing but misplaced priority, wondering why such a huge amount was earmarked for the office of first lady, which he said was not recognised by law.

Describing it as an aberration, Omoworare asked if such a development had ever been heard of in the United States, Ghana or any part of the world.

He also criticised the funds allotted to the construction of the Abuja city gate and vice-president's guest house, noting that it was wrong when only N1 billion was allocated for each federal university.

"N4 billion for first lady's office is scandalous. We allocate money for immaterial issues. Some of these allocations should have been moved elsewhere. There ought to be concentration on infrastructure.

FCT earmarks N5bn for rehabilitation of prostitutes

The Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) caused a stir in the Senate on Thursday when it presented its Statutory Appropriation Bill for 2013.

According to the FCTA, the sum of N5 billion had been budgeted for the rehabilitation of prostitutes in and around the Abuja metropolis in 2013.

It also disclosed that the sum of N7.45 billion had been earmarked for the expansion and rehabilitation of the two entrants at ONEX (Kubwa Expressway) and Airport Expressway.

In the same vein, the FCTA said the sum of N4 billion was earmarked for the construction of the First Lady Mission Building project within the same period.

These were contained in the lead debate on the FCTA Statutory Appropriation Bill, 2013 and sponsored and presented to the Senate by its leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba.

While the budget proposal, put at N253 billion was passed into second reading, the senators picked holes in it, saying the FCTA had misplaced its priorities.

A breakdown of the proposal included N7.5 billion for the construction of a new city gate; N150 million for the renovation of the Vice- President Guest House while N5 billion was earmarked for the rehabilitation of prostitutes and destitutes in the FCT, among others.

Opening the floor on the budget proposal, Senator Abdul Lingi expressed dissatisfaction with the amount of money budgeted for the First Lady Mission Building project as well as the N150 million budgeted for the Vice-President Guest House in Asokoro.

“N150 million is too much for the renovation of the Vice-President Guest House in Asokoro. How much will the building now gulp if we want to build it?”, he asked.

Senator Babajide Omoworare, in his own comment, described as scandalous the N4 billion project, arguing that the money could be spent on some important things that would be meaningful and beneficial to the people.

“It is not proper for us to put the money for the building of First Lady Mission House into the FCT budget. It is against the federalism system of government.

“And again, how can we budget 7.4billion for the city gate? I think the amount is too much for the construction of the city gate,” he said.

Senator Babafemi Ojodu said it was not proper to spend the amount on a building that would be put into use only once or twice in a year.http://www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/component/k2/item/4340-fct-earmarks-n5bn-for-rehabilitation-of-prostitutes

I think what critics should do here is to counter with facts what the Op has written about GEJ achievements.
Rather than regurgitating old worn out lines and propaganda aimed at positioning their party as better, even as we know better!

Personally I think these achievement are mostly correct. However, I would like to see more work done in other areas and places. For instance, what efforts are being made to improve PortHarcout Port facilities? How about Ibaka Port? What is the plan to accelerate it completion and commissioning? Why is the delay in starting a new Niger Bridge, and of course the East West Road? Thes projects are critically to opening up other part to the country and stemming migration to other urban cities that have such facilities.

“Jonathan is giving presidential recognition to corrupt people” – CACOL

The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has criticized President Goodluck Jonathan and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for hanging around questionable characters, especially those who have been fingered as far as corruption related matters are concerned.

The group was reacting to the news that a former Deputy national Chairman and ex-convict Olabode George, is among those contesting for the party’s Board of Trustee Chairman.

Chairman of CACOL, Debo Adeniran, in a statement said the ruling party was “glorifying and romancing corruption”.

“It is sickening that the President, who should show better example for the masses to follow, could glorify corruption with such impunity. Jonathan could not have been serious with his fight against corruption. He is just paying lip service to it. He is supposed to shame and despise corrupt leaders, but he is giving presidential recognition to them.

“Imagine the President appointing Chief Tony Anenih, whose only achievement as Minister of Works and Housing, was diverting billions of dollars meant for building and rehabilitating our roads into his private coffers, as the Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the same Anenih is also vying for the PDP Board of Trustee Chairman. It is very shameful that our President’s list of associates is replete with criminals. This same President Jonathan was showering praises on former Governor of Bayelsa State cum ex-convict, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, as his political benefactor some time ago.

The pro-democracy group admonished the President and his political party for not caring out the expectation of the masses.

“It is so saddening that a president that claims to be fighting corruption is dining and wining with ex-convicts. The signal the President with his political party is sending to the Nigerian citizenry is that, conviction is no longer a stigma in this part of the world since they (convicts) would be celebrated and even compensated with political appointments as soon as they come out of jail.”

The PDP which is yet to hold its BoT chairmanship election despite repeated announcement has shifted the contest twice.

5 Trillion Naira Stolen Under President Goodluck Jonathan’s Administration | Transparency International Advices Nigeria against Corruption

Reports from a recent investigation have revealed that the Goodluck Jonathan administration which assumed office in 2011 still has a long way to go in its fight against corruption. Over N5 trillion in government funds have been stolen through fraud, embezzlement and theft since President Jonathan assumed office on May 6, 2010, a Punch investigation has found.

This amount is the summation of government funds said to have been stolen, according to the Nuhu Ribadu-led Petroleum Task Force report; the Minister of Trade and Investment’s report on stolen crude; the House of Representatives fuel subsidy report and investigations into the ecological fund, SIM card registration and frequency band spectrum sale.

The investigation revealed the fraudulent activities carried out on a large scale in some ministries. The Ribadu report on the oil and gas sector for instance, put daily crude oil theft at a high 250,000 barrels daily at a cost of $6.3bn (N1.2trn) a year. This puts the total amount lost through oil theft in the two years of Jonathan’s government at over $12.6bn (N2trn).

Another fraud scheme was discovered in July 2012 when the House of Representatives Committee on Environment discovered a tree seedling fraud worth N2bn awarded by the Ecological Fund office.

Similarly, in the telecommunications sector, the 450MHz frequency, which was valued at over $50m, was allegedly sold for less than $6m (a difference of $44m or N6.9bn) by the Nigeria Communications Commission. In the same sector, the reps, earlier this year, commenced investigations into the N6.1bn SIM card registration project embarked upon by the NCC in 2011.

Reacting to the massive frauds that have greeted Jonathan’s tenure, Transparency International, in an email to Punch said that Nigeria would continue to slack in development as long as it keeps paying lip service to the fight against corruption.

“President Jonathan should insist that those accused of corruption are properly investigated and punished if found guilty, irrespective of their positions and connections. The judiciary must be seen as impartial and fair.

“To signal a break with the past, the government should set up an independent investigatory panel to review charges of corruption within government and the private sector. President Jonathan should endorse the panel and commit to ensure it has both the scope and the power to investigate and prosecute.

“This is not just a matter of justice; fighting corruption can affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. The current culture of corruption hurts the majority of Nigerians while the inequality gap widens.”

This report is coming just days after KPMG, a global audit and financial advisory firm, stated that Nigeria accounted for the highest number of fraud cases in Africa in the first half of 2012.

It is our hope that such reports like this would make the government take the fight against corruption more seriously.
