The Bauchi State Government has recruited 30 Egyptian doctors to bridge the doctor/patient ratio in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Altine Bello, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Bauchi that all the Egyptian doctors could communicate fluently in English.

“The cost implication to the state is moderate and beneficial to both parties.

“We have offered them fantastic remuneration, including good residential accommodation and car loans,” she said.

The commissioner, however, expressed concern at the reluctance by Nigerian doctors to take up appointment with the state government in spite of the offer made to them.

She said, “We have advertised for 60 vacancies, but only 39 indigenous doctors applied.

“Regrettably, not all the 39 candidates who applied for the vacancy responded for interviews,” Bello said.

She expressed optimism that the Egyptian doctors would help to ameliorate the shortage of doctors in the state’s health service.

Bello reiterated the commitment of government to revitalising the health sector, adding that adequate measures had been put in place to curtail the recent outbreak of measles.

I wonder if the state is going to pay the egyptian doctors more than it would the other 39 doctors who showed up for interviews??

I hope the nigerian doctors will also benefit from the “We have offered them fantastic remuneration, including good residential accommodation and car loans,”

How can they remunerate them the same? What would be the insentive for them leaving Egypt, Goodwill?

I don't think it is really about getting better treatment. I mean regardless of where you are from, government should be paying for the skills and not country of origin. if some of the 39 doctors who showed up bring to the table the same skill set as some of those from egypt, I would think the government would move to make sure that they get the same fantastic remunerations.
Re: Bauchi Recruits 30 Egyptian Doctors by 4Him(m): 11:28pm On Mar 11, 2008
Instead of the Bauchi government encouraging its own citizens to go to school.
I dont blame them, oil money has spoilt everyone. If the tax payers had to cough out the "fantastic remuneration" for those Egyptian doctors we wont need to remind them that doctors dont spend learn their trade by following cattle.
Re: Bauchi Recruits 30 Egyptian Doctors by tlops(m): 11:49pm On Mar 11, 2008
, But really I don't think the state goverment should be so proud of this. Anyway I don't blame the doctors for not showing interest knowing what comes with leaving in the north, except they'll guarantee their safety. the constant ethno-religious crisis without any body being held resposible is part of their fears, plus time will come when they'll need an industrial action to get their 'fantastic remuneration' maybe a 'Fantastic Strike'.
Re: Bauchi Recruits 30 Egyptian Doctors by Nobody: 12:00am On Mar 12, 2008
What does indigenous doctors mean?
because Nigerians have different meanings for simple words

Do they mean Bauchi Indigenes?
northerners?
Musli'ms ?
other Nigerians included?

The last time I checked, Southern doctors in the North were offered jobs in the North on contract basis and then kicked out of administrative positions and could be made answerable to an ordinary Nurse who is an indigene.
Nurses have been made Chief medical officers in a hospital where southern doctors worked.

Let them go ahead and recruit Egyptians and Pakistanis.
Some of those people are ward ordelies, surgical nurses and dispensers parading as internists and surgeons in black African nations butchering people.
There are confirmed cases of "indian doctors"  that had no medical degrees working in the North.
Too bad many patients would see their light skin and automatically think they're smarter
Let me warn my family in Bauchi to stick to the Dr Olayinkas and Okonkwos grin

Na today?

na today we begin dey warn them? I saw two "doctors" come visit once while i was in Yola . . . they looked like dusty long distance cattle rearers! grin
I had to go to the hospital there to take a vaccine, the place would just about qualify as a dispensary and that is talking about a whole "Federal Medical Center".

ROFL.
Let me tell you this funny but sad tale.
My hubby and a few colleagues some years ago were studying some disease prevalent in Northern Nigeria and went home to collect samples.
For the 2 weeks or so they were there, there were these 2 exceptionally smart "Hausa chaps",Dr's that wore flowing gowns and he and his colleagues were so impressed.
Can you imagine his shocker on their last day,as they boarded the station wagon to drive them to Abuja, one of the guys ran over to him, handed him a CV and spoke to him in Igbo.
These boys were Igbo boys that had become Mus'lims, claiming to now be indigenes of a northern state so they could have a job perhaps.
My hubby was born abd bred in the North and speaks fluent Hausa but had no idea these guys were Igbos because they spoke Hausa like the natives and even spoke English with Hausa accent.

You gotta have a laugh @ these clowns. Before you people resort to your usual abuses, let me just say I am not a moslem, have no intension of being one and am not from the north, I just hate sychophants.
Re: Bauchi Recruits 30 Egyptian Doctors by 4Him(m): 1:26am On Mar 12, 2008
funbag, were did we lie? grin
Is it not true that northern "doctors" are frequently denied jobs in top private hospitals in the south?
Is it not true that companies are also picky when it comes to graduates from northern schools?

you may also want to check the real meaning of "sycophants" . . . i doubt it applies here. wink

Infact, this is what someone had to say about her on this thread

almondjoy:

Cry about what?  Do I bother your with your mess in your religious section? Like I said, I am here to expose fake Christains like you who jump around saying one thing and doing another.  So keep following me around.  Nairaland and the world in general knows what we are all about.  While I am having a good time at the expense of people like you, you are the one dying to convert the world with your bullshit, after eating the forbidden fruit till it germinates and pollinates all over you.   Who are you deceiving?  Virgin Mary, mother of Osama Bin Laden!

Who is preaching fornication? You did it yourself, I don't have to preach it to you.  Please don't be a hypocrite and answer the bloody question:

WHERE YOU A PRIMARY OR SECONDARY VIRGIN WHEN YOU GOT MARRIED?

Did you not sample the dude and vice versa before you got married? Confess!!!  Probably did that till you got tired, now you are preaching shit here.

Fake Christain, trying to make up for lost times.  Too late ma dear, you are not better than most if not worse!

So come off your fake, hypocritico-religious, high horse camel!  Always on one jihad or the other like you are cursed.  Upon all you are doing here and the land beyond, you will still be turned back from those gates of heaven or hell to come back to Nairaland to roam about in eternal damnation!  After Christianity spits you out with rejection, I hope the "Great Religion" accept your huypocritic arse!  May all the gods combined help your soul then!

Keep deceiving yourself.

Its a pity you don't know why you're such a hate figure, you're even more stupid than I anticipated. Hint: 80% women don't carry a bible in one hand whilst wishing war and brimstone on others. When was the last time you preached peace?

I agree. This not just bad for the state but even worse for it's future if care is not taken. There is a huge problem in the northern states that needs to be dealt with soonest. I mean this problem has been building for decades and if care is not taken, it is bound to get worse with no signs of things getting better anytime soon.

Jigawa state once employed 14 North Korean ''doctors'' and at the end of the day, they turned out to be medical technicians. The doctors in most private clinics in parts of the North, at least in Jigawa and Kano that I know too well, are Igbos and Yorubas.

If they went to school themselves. . . .they would not be recruiting anyone but themselves.  Anyway, I hope others know better than to sign up for such death wishes. Thank God they did not recruit any member of ma family from any part of Nigeria. . . .I will not go there for all the money in this world! kiss Anyone that goes over there from any other part of Nigeria must be a damn fool! kiss
Re: Bauchi Recruits 30 Egyptian Doctors by Ibime(m): 5:08pm On Mar 12, 2008
With all the medical doctors we have in Naija, look at what these Aboki's are doing.

I believe it was Ahmadu Bello that said: "We have nothing in common with Southerners. Their way of life is completely alien to us. Rather than employ them to do our jobs, we would rather employ foreigners, even if we have to pay them double."

Hausa people will never learn. Despite all the rubbish they have done to our country, they will never learn from history. Its sad.
