A new political group with membership drawn from the nation’s crop of prominent politicians, has been formed. Chaired by the former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the group parades an array of over 200 politicians in the country. According to a report by The Eagle Online, they include Senator Gbemisola Saraki who is the vice chairman of the group, Akin Osuntokun (Secretary), a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu; former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia (SAN); and former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,
Chief Olabode George. Others are Ambassador Fati Abubakar, Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro; a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and Chris Uche (SAN), Lawal Shuaibu, human rights activist, Uba Sani; Senator Umar Argungu, Olusegun Awolowo, Hon. Uche Ekwunife, and Hon. Yemi Arokodare. Though yet without an official name, the group that started with 37 members, has been meeting as a non-partisan political organization with the aim of instituting good governance and ensuring the unity of the country.
Sources stated that it has met at least five times in the last few months, in the house of a senatorin Maitama, Abuja, adding that the attendance increased with every subsequent meeting. It was gathered that at the latest meeting on Wednesday, over 200 prominent politicians were in attendance. It was learnt that the last five meetings have been used to discuss the state of the nation, especially the issue of insecurity. A source within the group said: “We are concerned about total leadership. We are concerned about the wellbeing of Nigerians and how the leadership treats the followers.”
To achieve this, the group, initially known as the G-37, has formed several committees. They include Mobilisation committee that is chaired by Fani-Kayode, with Senator Grace Bent as his deputy; the Finance committee headed by Fafa Dan Princewill; the Media committee chaired by Senator Emmanuel Onwe, with Prof Mahmud Jega as vice chairman; and the Committee on Strategy and Research with Nuhu Ribadu as its chairman.

Personally, I don't have regards for the likes of Bode George, Obanikoro and Kalu. I don't believe they've changed for good if they can't submit their state loot and offer a public apology to Nigerians for their misconducts in office.

Same way, I can never take anybody who associates with Udenwa, Audu Ogbeh, Tom Ikimi and Tinubu serious.

When APC has Audu Ogbeh and Tom Ikimi as key drivers and ideologugues, you claimed they've repented and would be aligned into a new thinking of the "progressives". I would have agreed with you if the new thinking had been formed before they came in, but no, they have now been given the task of forming the ideology of the APC.

Now, a new group is emerging with a broader cross section of Nigerians and a more national outlook than the APC and your hypocrisy suddenly emerges to judge them with a different set of standards than you used on the APC. So much for rationalism.

Bias and Hypocrisy are two diseases that prevent people from seeing clearly and thinking rationally such that could have helped them in planning better strategies against their opponents. If you and the other APC fellas continue on this part of blinded reasoning, you would keep failing like you guys did in 2011. Tinubu shocked you guys then with his sudden support for Jonathan. Ribadu has probably shocked you here with his presence in this new group. I said it last time that Oshiomole has no place in APC, this new party is where he belongs and they will make APC look like a a gathering of secondary school students who failed JAMB and yet want to proceed to university.

Now exposed. The sentimental and vacuously pugnacious nature of Nigerians that allow many to lose the ability for simple reasoning. No one is more indicative of this than Papabrowne always keen to take 'flights of fantasy'. Deluded guy already talking of "broader cross section". After all the noise, the so-called Political group is no more than a glorified 'pepper soup' meeting. Shior. Sadly, insulting others and focusing on personality, never ideas, is what most Nigerians do best. This lack of political sophistication is the reason our nation is what it is. Over to all of you who worked yourselves up and insulted others when some of us simply told you to be circumspect and think logically. There was no way this could ever have been the birth of a political Party but we can always trust sentiments to carry the day with Nigerians.

The Chairman of G37, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has dispelled insinuations that the group was nursing an ambition of forming and launching a new political party as claimed in some newspapers and online news media.

Speaking from Liberia, through his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, said G37 is just a gathering of like minds who have come together to share experiences and knowledge on the state of the Nigerian nation with the aim of contributing their own quota to the promotion of good governance for the betterment of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Kalu, who said he remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party, noted that the G37’s membership cuts across different political parties and affiliations, religion and geographical zones, making it apolitical and neutral.

He further stated that the group was not an agent of any political party or individual, adding: “It is a selfless effort for the collective interest of our fatherland, Nigeria and nothing else. “We are working for the unity and progress of our country to make it a better place to live.

olabukola: Dudu why are you against the group? When known pdp thieves joined APC you claimed they have repented/they felt that pdp was not standing on the idealogy it was formed. Now Kalu and your saint/former presedential candidate, Bode and other pdp thieves are teaming up to form a political party and you are singing a different song. Must it be your way to be right?. Don't burst nerve in your defence of these thieves if you are not one of them already. PDP,APC and the yet to be formed parties are the same. The earlier you get that into your skull the more happy you enjoy your life. Unless you have some kick back to gain from the group you choose to support.
