I am truly and genuinely inspired, can you do a detailed breakdown of each stage - material, cost and time etc into and excel sheet and share with the nairalanders. I am tired of paying landlord more than a million a year as rent when i have plots of land lying fallow.

Muyesky:

Pillars are very important factors in a building. It forms a binding effect, more like when you wrap your hands tightly round a lady, you know obviously she is going nowhere because she is tightly within your grisp. That's what a pillar does to a building. But since you said its very dry land then you have nothing to worry about. However, if the area is not fully developed and development like road it drainage construction wants to come in, the moments caterpillars and all those heavy machineries starts rumbling the ground, it is usually those without pillars that suffers the after effect. As for the German floor which u didn't do initially, just make sure your concrete to sand mixture for the flooring should be at least 4 inches thick, you should have no problem. The pillars can still be applied at the present stage should you care to do so sir, remain blessed. smiley

Thanks a lot for your response. But how can pillars be introduced to a building that is already up to window level?

Dereformer:

from the window level, the bricklayer will use his knife to cut the edges in the four corners straight to the foundation and then put the already coupled iron rod into it, covered by wooden plank(sawmill) and now fill it with concrete mixture, after this, a chain lintel will be used to brace the building round connecting it with the pillars already on ground. The binding effect will be super cool smiley

@reference: despite your criticism, i learnt something. pls what is perspex googled it but couldnt find an answer i could relate to. @muyesky: do u know what perspex is? pls let me know..i am working on my building plan and I could really make use of a kitchen with wide windows. God bless.

Reference: Why are bathroom and kitchen windows in Nigeria always microscopic in size (as small as two feet square) when this is the tropics - serious heat and humidity, irregular electricity - often dark (not good for effective cleaning) and poor ventilation to rid them of sewage odours or kitchen fumes.

Pally widen your window wall to wall or raise the apex to the ceiling and get rid of that ugly burglar proofing and get perspex so that the light can come through and with it the beauty of your tiles.

Nigerians and dark house 'cave' architecture sef.

Perspex is made when methyl methacrylate is polymerized in a cell made of two sheets of glass separated by a rubber ring. Methyl methacrylate is partly polymerized to make a thick and syrup then put into the cell. Polymerization is then completed by heating the filled cell in an oven. Afterwards, the cell is cooled and the glass plates removed, leaving a sheet of clear, solid polymethyl methacrylate referred to as Perspex

Key Features and Benefits of Cast Acrylic (Perspex) Sheets:
Outstanding outdoor weatherability and UV resistance
Exceptionally long lifespan
Optically clear - high light transmission
Good acoustic properties
Excellent surface hardness and durability
Lightweight – less than half the weight of an equivalent piece of glass
17 times stronger than glass
Environmentally friendly
Suitable for food contact

Applications for Cast Acrylic (Perspex) Sheets:
Point of Purchase / Retail / Exhibition displays
Shop fitting / Shelving
Framing / Model making
Signage
Architectural applications
Glazing
Parts for the medical industry
Light fittings or roof lighting
Screens / Partitions

In conclusion, it's just another type of glass known as Acrylic, commonly known as “Perspex” or “Plexiglas".

@Muyesky: I wish to commend you for a job well done! More power to your elbow. The Almighty who has started this good work will also complete it because there is no abandoned project with Him.

I must confess that this is one of the most interesting thread I have found on Nairaland recently.

I'm planning to start a project next month or early 2014. Quick question: what is the cost of those kind of wooden doors often used by bank? Apologies I don't know what they are called. I like them so much and intend using them for my project if it would be cost-effective.

Cheers!
