The so called grenade must have been forgotten by the gunmen who just finished praying in the same mosque before going outside shooting sporadically. This is the best possible assumption from the OP. Some thieves also pray in the church/mosque before commencing their operation. Whether the thief carries out his/her operation with a gun, bomb or PEN is inconsequential.
