Alamieyeseigha, Others To Get State Pardon Today by Jascoman: 11:31am On Mar 12, 2013
SAN FRANCISCO, March 12, (THEWILL) – A former Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha (DSP), 62, who suffered political persecution in the hands of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and was eventually convicted for graft, may be pardoned by the National Council of State.

Born on November 16, 1952, the impeached DSP, is amongst several other persons from across the federation to be pardoned for various offences, a source familiar with the matter told THEWILL Tuesday.

Some retired military officers are also to be considered for pardon though the source added that the name of a former Chief of General Staff, General Oladipo Diya, who was convicted for coup plotting by the Sani Abacha military administration, was removed from the pardon list.

THEWILL has not been able to get an independent confirmation of the development. Calls to the President Goodluck Jonathan’ spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati and Special Adviser on Documentation and Strategy, Mr. Oronto Douglas were not taken.

The Council of State is made up of all living former Presidents, Serving President, Vice President, State Governors, all living former Chief Justices of Nigeria (CJN), Senate President and Speaker of the House.

Today’s meeting started at about 10.30am and is still on-going…

This must be a joke. After getting a two-for-one-kobo judgment and get out of jail card, GEJ wants to pardon his benefactor?! Well, he(GEJ) also benefited in no small measure from the looters' spoil.

It will be a great disservice and injustice to the cheated Bayelsans, if he is pardoned! The President making allies with loosely controlled criminals and ex-convicts! Hope Thief Bode George is also included on the list!

what do you expect? Will Jonathan claim to be naive of the looting of the state fund by his master as the deputy governor of the bayelsa state!
Was it not the same alamieshegha that told the nigerians to be grateful to him for presenting GEJ to us!

GEJ does not "give a damn" how reprehensible and senseless his actions appear to the world. He is very crude and unsophisticated in that regard and this development does not surprise me at all. We will see more like it because if GEJ realises that the game is up, despite all the PDP's bravado, then, because he is a 'throwback', we will see him doing what African leaders did in the past. I.e last minute looting, selling of State assets to cronies and empowering minions, pals and benefactors. We even saw OBJ doing this because he is a 'throwback' Dinosaur also. Predictable really but Nigeria deserves this for deciding they wanted an abjectly poor mediocrity as President while other African Countries are now firmly embracing the principles of empowering the very best their Nation has to offer.

I thought pardons were for politically motivated convictions? This man was criminally convicted. He did not even do enough time in prison. Just yesterday, the city of Detroit in USA found the former mayor guilty of corruption, and he is facing 20 years imprisonment. That is how serious countries handle corruption.

All the inmates in Nigerian prisons should be pardoned, freed and rehabilitated by sending them abroad on scholarships like they do Niger Delta militants; and like they preference treated Cecilia Ibru, B. George, etc.

Whats the justification for having people incarcerated while the likes of Alam gets state pardon?

did the united states of america finish when president gerald ford gave presidential padon to his corrupt boss richard nixon, this happened in the 70's and the u.s is still continuing through 2013. Nigerians just love exargeration and acting as if everything abnormal only happens here.
