DELTA FLAGS OFF COMMERCIAL CASSAVA FARMING
To ensure adequate food and creation of jobs to the unemployed, the Delta State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources led by the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Barr Misan Ukubeyinje led the team to flag off Commercial Cassava cultivation at Ewulu, Aniocha South LGA. He told stake holders that the initiative is a collaboration of Delta State Government with the Federal Government 's Agriculture Transformation Agenda (ATA) to actualize the cassava value chain programme.

Watch as this thread will descend to insults and tribalism from you know who's. Anyway let me say my piece and leave before it starts.

Though I still think delta state governors and it's administration still need to do a lot and I mean A HUGE lot for its people at least I'll commend them on this solely because it was created to reduce the unemployment of that state.

This is going to increase the quantity of cassava bread in nigeria. But the problem about the project in delta state is some of these projects are a means to siphon state's fund and may not live to see the light of the day.

For a state that get huge allocation he didn't think big like big factories and industries where they can produce the things we import, che na wa oh. Poor thinking poor product.

If this is development. If we split up the south south would struggle no offence.

More garri will be produced from the cassava thus reducing the price of garri in the market! Its gonna be a festival of garri! Garri will be surplus and free for all! More garri to ur elbow Mr. President! Garri is a very important part of our lives yet Seun hates GARRI!

One day Delta state will start exporting GARRI to Europe and you know the amount of revenue they'll incur from that! GARRI, GARRI, GARRI, GARRI!

Your Governor is not a failure, I think you people are. Cos if you decide to work with your governor and offer constructive criticism instead of personal abuses he could heed, but you and other fellows in this forum only curse and insult without any positive suggestion. If I ask you now what your governor would have done better you will pause for 15 minutes lost in thoughts cos you actually dont know what your governor should do.

the equipment i see here is what pepper grinders use in Ketu and Mushin market - there is no commercial viability here

Cassava is one crop that can kick-start our green revolution. It is also a money spinner. Kudos to delta state. I hope other states in the south take a cue from Delta State.

Nigeria is the highest producer of cassava in the world, and delta state is the Highest producer of Cassava in Nigeria.

Commercial production of cassava has been going on in delta state for long, so there is nothing like flagging off commercial cassava production in Delta State. Unless they are telling us the flag off is simply to allocate money to themselves.

That said, several areas of improvement in the cassava production and processing chain is needed to bring about higher returns to those involved in cassava production and processing.

Having mechanised means of cassava harvesting, having mechanised means of cassava peeling will greatly increase the proffitability and production of cassava.

Building plants that convert cassava to higher end products will also improve the earnings of farmers and will spur production. Building plants that produces things like alcohol, glucose syrup and pharmaceuticals from cassava starch will go a long way in elevating cassava to a truelly economic status.
Not what they are showing on that flag off picture, even inthe 70's we had that cassava grating maching being shown in the picture. so coming 40 yrs later to flag off cassava commercialisation with graters that have been in existence for 40 yrs does not make sense.

I am actually interested in cassava farming large scale and have started doing some findings but the greatest concern is the market for large quantity of cassava. How where you able to sell your harvest of 4 million love to hear from you. please inbox me @ emmantayo@hotmail.com

He is not my governor, but he can start with clearing refuse, fixing traffic lights, filling out pot holes and beautifying Warri Town. That does not need a PHD in rocket science to do does it? Benin city is just 45 minutes away, and the difference is clear.
