Its either most of the the dudes here have selective amnesia or werent born in 1999. How can anyone say or claim that Diya was pardoned by Abdusalami?

For the records?

[i]General Abdulsalami Abubakar’s brief regime only gave Obasanjo presidential pardon due to the political necessity that he would become Nigeria’s next president.Having served the country for over thirty years, (Rtd) General Oladipo Diya was a member of the first set of officers trained at the Nigerian Defence Academy. Diya’s career as a military officer appeared paved with gold as he kept on climbing till he became the Chief of General Staff, the military equivalent of Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was at this point that everything came crashing from palace to prison, from a position of power to that of powerlessness until Abdulsalami Abubakar’s government only directed that the Generals be released from prison. This directive was, however, silent on whether they were pardoned or if their privileges were restored as was done to him (Obasanjo) by Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Even after the clear DISTINCTION between pardon and clemency has been stated, haters, who are on the path of destruction, have continued to CELEBRATE their ignorance.

Pukkah: This is double jeopardy for Jonathan. Fraud inside fraud. Corruption upon corruption. This is multi-layered fraud like the leaves of onion.

In all of this shameless, selfish and wicked display of dishonesty and sleaze, Nigerians are the greatest losers and Mr Goodluck Jonathan 'does not give a damn'.

If someone has been offered clemency before, why pardon? Is pardon not a form of clemency? The real target was Alami as Reuben Abati would call it.

GEJ is an opportunist in everything. This same clueless and shameless administration embarrassed Nigerians with its useless honurs roll in 2011.

National Award: I’ve An OFR Already –alele-williams

Plan by the Federal Government to confer the national award and status of an Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) on Nigerias first female vicechancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Grace Alele-Williams next week might have flopped as the renowned academic disclosed in Lagos yesterday that she got her OFR award 10 years ago during the tenure of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Speaking at the 10th anniversary conference of Women in Management and Business (WIMBIZ), where she was applauded to have been long overdue for the national award, the soft spoken professor of Mathematics said: It is very sad to hear such news has filtered across the country because I already have an OFR award which was given to me by President Obasanjo.

This says a lot about record keeping in this country and it is disheartening to see the country we strove to build degenerate to such level, please help me tell them that I have an OFR, perhaps what should be next for me is a CFR, she enthused.
In her keynote address, Prof. Alele-Williams enjoined Nigerians to collectively stand up to the cankerworm of corruption, which has eaten deep into the fabrics of the nation. She commended WIMBIZ for being a true catalyst in helping to influence women and producing benchmarks that are attractive, persuading, educating and encouraging.

She applauded WIMBIZs mentee programme which she considered inspiring with a focus to the future and added that honesty and integrity must come alive again in our focus as a people and nation so that we can produce enduring results, we must begin to do something to make corruption uncomfortable around us, there is a need for a change in values.

She bemoaned the high level of examination malpractice in the country and urged women as home managers to desist from encouraging malpractices in every way. Prof. Grace Alele-Williams was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin on October 4, 1985, becoming the first female vicechancellor in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. She held the position for seven years and was considered a disciplinarian.

If Nigeria were to be a true democratic and sane country this man called Gej would have been jailed by now. This act is criminal. Deceiving a whole country because of his godfather, a criminal, a common thief.

How does granting amnesty to someone amount to criminal actare you okay ni?

Billyonaire: If Generals Diya And Adisa were pardoned as you stated, why wouldnt Alams be pardoned too ? After all coupists like IBB and Buhari are walking free!

Why are you fond of fallacies in your arguments? This time around, you've run foul of 'tu quoque' - 'what of you?'

So it's right to pardon Alams BECAUSE of Adisa and Diya and by extension, Buhari and IBB.

Honestly, this is embarassing.

You and your ilk are making light of this weighty issue. An issue that slaps decency in the face and which all good men find offensive.

Must you support every action of the President? Why not just defer to your conscience and refuse to comment on this obvious faux pas of his?

I ask, what's your benefit in this matter - pecuniary or primordial?

Let all those who upturn the truth because of crumbs know that no condition is permanent. Know that whatever you sow, you shall reap. And when you're reaping it, the crumbs won't be able to help you.

Obijulius: For their mind...they will say they have finally gotten GEJ again.

My dear, the man is smart, the smartest Nigerian politician around...most of his critics are the dull ones.

This case has exposed that fact that your criticism is based not on a desire for a better country but because you don't want someone outside the establishment (SW/North) to run this nation.

Well you don't have a choice... the man is playing you into frustration. Frustration that will cause you all to beg for division as Ojukwu desired it.

Who were the people that fought for your "dullard" before he became an acting president?

So whats the summary of your points. Atleast you sabi book

The article is clear. "pardon is always clemency". Therefore Adisa and co have already received clemency, courtesy of the state pardon of 1999. Therefore, GEJ, should have granted clemency to only Alams.

I just read an article and would like to share it here. Article was written Friday March 30, 2012 with title DIYA AND THE POLITICS OF PRESIDENTIAL PARDON

http://www.nigerianbestforum.com/blog/?p=111102

excerpts:

"...Afterwards, as it was expected during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, several persons and interest groups wrote and campaigned to draw Obasanjo’s attention to the need to grant Diya and others an unconditional pardon..".

"Later, during Yar’ Adua’s regime, reliable sources made it known that Yar’Adua, following recommendations by a presidential advisory committee wanted to grant full pardon to many Nigerians especially soldiers convicted for treason in 1995 and 1997 by the General Abacha administration..."

"... Many, however, opined that Yar Adua could have later extended this gesture to Diya and others but his failing health prevented him from implementing the recommendations of the then presidential advisory council..."

"... It was as a result of this belief that if Obasanjo and Abulbakar Abdusalami did not grant Diya and others full pardon because they had reservation as ex-military men, and if Yar Adua who had planned to give Diya and others pardon could not do so due to his ill health and later demise, then, President Goodluck Jonathan would grant Diya and others unconditional pardon..."

so the question is:

Why the selective administration of justice via the politics of presidential pardon all this while? Let Diya and other Generals be given unconditional presidential pardon so that they can regain their status and get their entitlements. This is in the spirit of democratic reconciliation

Jarus: In quick rush to achieve their gameplan, they didn't even bother to check facts.

There's is no fact to check, sahara reporters goofed here, from the gazetted report they presented its very obvious that they are two categories, the first list in which Diya appeared belong to the clemency category while the second list is the pardon category. Based on this record presented by sahara reporters, Diya and Adisa were not pardoned in 1999.

It may interest you to know that pardon and clemency might look similar but are quite distinctive.

Correct. To support your point, Chris Anyanwu was granted same clemency that enabled her to contest for Senatorial seat (still in office as APGA Senator) despite her conviction and imprisonment by Abacha. Simple and clear: the real target was Alams.

My brother, people dont even bother to check the so called gazetted documents. They just see a topic and since its from Sowore and his cohorts at sahara reporters, they believe hook, line and sinker.
be that as it may, I have attached two documents here from their so called proof showing that Clemency and Pardon are different. Abdusalami pardoned some and granted Clemency to others. Its all there in the report. SHINE YOUR EYES

This guy you must be dull for asking this question?

1. Somebody deceived the whole country by including the names of people that were already pardoned 14 years ago in the list just because the president wants to pardon somebody that a court has given fair hearing and was duly convicted for stealing a state blind. That is called abuse of power! It is a criminal offense.

Are you clear now?
