The dispute over the ownership of oil wells
between the Echono and Odoke in Abaji
local government area in Kogi State and
their neighbours in Aguleri, Anambra State
has led to the death of four persons.
The dispute started last year when the
President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned
the Orient Refinery and named Anambra
State among oil-producing states in the
country.
LEADERSHIP Weekend learnt that the feud
between the communities was heightened
by a fresh dispute over the ownership of a
fishing pond
The divisional security officer (DSO) of Ibaji
local government area, Suleiman
Mohammed, told our correspondent that
reports reaching him indicated that the
clash had claimed four Ibaji men while two
others were kidnapped to an unknown
destination in Awka, Anambra state .
He said the people of Echono and Odeke,
who host the disputed oil wells, woke up
on the fateful day to discover that their
fishing pond close to the wells had been
taken over by their neighbours from
Anambra State.
He hinted that an attempt by the Ibaji
communities to force the “invaders” out of
the area was fiercely resisted and led to the
death of four Ibaji men while two others
were kidnapped.
The Kogi State command police public
relations officer, Romanus Nwaneri, said
the situation had been put under control as
his men had been drafted to the area.
However, he added that no life was lost
even as he dispelled the kidnapped story.
Head of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Kogi
State, Lt-Col. Gabriel Olorunyomi, claimed
ignorance of the incident.

Kogi youths should have known of Aguleri and Umuleri war prowess before claiming what does not belong to them. North is a barren land and would never yield oil please Yogi people put it in your brain. The oil belongs to Nigeria not even Anagram State, so why fight for it? (2) what are the living and infra structural conditions of states like Rivers,Abia,Cross river,Akwaibom,Edo,Delta,Imo and Ondo with their so called I have oil that should warrant someone to kill because of worth only few greedy politicians and cabals enjoys at the federal level?

These killings are needless.

Is it so difficult to delineate inter-state boundaries within Nigeria? This dispute has been on since last year!

If we can't resolve inter-state boundary issues for so long (to the extent that Nigerians are killing themselves), how do we expect to resolve international boundary issues like Bakassi?

All of you have taken sides (overtly or covertly). Are you really sure of the issues?

This is what happens when an organ of government neglects its role. The boundary issue has been left to fester and people have taken sides and are actually cheering on or giving latent support to one of the protagonists.

Oil bloodbath before production. Wetin go happen when business activities (bunkering) start to happen there..this oil thing is a big curse.

My brethren let peace reign . Ibaji people and Aguleri should make peace but i still wonder what pushed Ibaji to foolishly provoke the Aguleri people , possibly they have carried this euphoria that they igbos can be attacked and killed at will without any revenge , sorry you have attacked the wrong set of igbos.

OPC is afraid of everything so should not be a yardstick.

Aguleri should not go into war with any group including Ibaji and Odeke.This is the wrong time for Aguleri to go into fight as there are valuable investment worth millions of dollars lying in their soil including the untapped oil.i beseech state and Federal govt to do all it can to bring peace to aguleri/ibaji and entire nigeria.this will be done by increasing the presence of security forces along the border and properly delineate the boundary between anambra and kogi in interest of justice.

AGULERI means LION that Consumes, pls KOGI dont commit suicide, pls leave their Oil for them, u ppl should concentrate on limestone it is also lucrative
