The SURE-P in edo state is not doing anything oh. NDE bought mass wheelbarrows and shovels which most of d beneficiaries no use eye see. I saw one agbero wearing SURE-P vest and collecting revenue at New Benin area some weeks ago. Lucky Imasuen said they will pay d beneficiaries last week, but dere was no 'Goodluck Alert' cos we all knw dat they hvnt worked yet, but Imasuen is being paid any time he utters "SURE-P". The final thing is dat NDE officials said the beneficiaries will be doing community service, lyk sweepin of markets and roads, hw come u r talking abt road construction here? D beneficiaries r supposed to work, nt d funds being diverted to contractors.

Now there has to be a separation of costing, most of the projects you have listed fall under ministries that are constitutionally empowered to develop this country. Personally i'm surprised that my darling project the east - west road is coming under sure p? so what is the ministry of Niger delta doing and what are the staff collecting money for if their main project is under sure p?

Can you also enlighten us on this allocation of 10000 per month to 3000 people in every state? Whoever came up with such idea needs to be crucified upside down. So for instance as a governor of Rivers state i will just send names of 3000 of my friends and family and probably church members and party members to sure p for onward payment of monthly allowance. Talk of share of the national cake abi? Then we wonder why we are walking backwards? Small time they sure p militants beneficiaries will soon agitate for increase.

What a country?

A Nigerian politician went to the US to visit his counterpart. When the

senator invited him home for dinner, the minister was very impressed

by the lavish mansion, grounds and the costly furnishings. He asked

"How can you afford all this on a meagre senator's salary?"

The senator smiled knowingly and took him to the window.

"Can you see the river?"

"Yes"

"Can you see the bridge over it?"

"Of course", said the minister.

"10 percent", said the senator smugly.

Some time later, he had occasion to pay a return visit. The Nigerian

minister lavished all hospitality on him. When they came to his

house, the American was stunned by the huge palace the minister had

built, glittering with precious art, hundreds of servants etc. etc.

"How can you possibly afford this, on a salary in Naira?', he asked.

The minister called him to the window.

"See the river over there?"

"Sure", cried the senator.

"Can you see the bridge over it?"

The senator looked, was confused, peered closely and said -

"No, I don't see any bridge."

"100 percent", said the minister !!

They are still trying to pursue this brain-dead program of the Federal Government getting involved in maternity affairs. If they can't ensure the money for petroleum subsidies is used judiciously there is no way they will manage such an intimate & intricate program. Talk about jumping from fry-pan to fire. I have said it before that GEJ's advisers are would-be socialists.

Roads, bridges & trains services are good projects but I'll like to see what is being done with the actual N4 trillion budget if all of the FG's project is now being attributed to a program with a budget of a couple of hundred billion Naira.

Finally, the fact remains that removing subsidies that benefits a large number of the poor and pouring the funds into uncertain and non-everyday-man projects is a waste of funds. The average worker benefits from the subsidy each and everyday when he/she takes a taxi to work. He does not get the same benefits when the money is shifted to a program only used by a small proportion of the population. The funds would also contribute less to the economy than if they had remain as subsidies. It is called robbing Peter to pay Paul.

If you had taken a little time to read even one of the reports, you would have seen how beneficiaries were recruited. That would have saved you the above SHAMEFUL DISPLAY of ignorance.

The women and youth empowerment scheme is for the poor because only N10,000 is paid per month. There's a thread currently in the front page about poverty. The N10,000 is for such kind of persons or their relatives. It is a lifeline. Such kind of persons are unlikely to be found on NL. The beneficiaries are expected to do work of 5hrs per week days. They can use the remaining hours of the day for other personal jobs. If they can save stipends for 5months, that is N50,000 which is enough to start petty business. Also N10,000 for 3,000 persons per state is N30million every month for the local economy. That will boost people's purchasing power and increase possibilities for alot of people.

This is unlike the YOUWIN programme which is for the literate and middle class. We had testimonies of winners of YOUWIN on NL.

The problem with some of you is that you'r BLINDED by hate, sentiments and emotions. Even if GEJ tarrs all the streets of Nig with gold it doesn't matter.

"large number of the poor and pouring the funds into uncertain and non-everyday-man projects is a waste of funds"

So you call all the projects listed above "uncertain and non-everyday-man projects"? The roads, bridges, rail lines, etc? And all the project were named and clearly stated? Now that is an all time low for you.

Again, how is the fuel subsidy scheme benefiting a "large number of the poor"? How many poor persons (real definition of poor) have cars? How many poor persons have generators? The rich person or middle class that buys petrol to fill their SUVs versus the poor who uses public transport, who benefits more from a N1trillion fuel subsidy budget? In addition, the high capacity buses that is becoming popular these days for public transport all use DIESEL. Diesel is not subsidized.

As far as I'm concerned fuel subsidy feeds the affluence of the rich and middle class and empowers fuel marketers. Most importantly it is a dis-incentive for establishment of local refineries. I hope you read the thread about Dangote plan to build a refinery? There he clearly identified fuel subsidy as an impediment
