I drive a Toyota Camry 98.I noticed that the fuel gauge was no longer showing a true reflection of the fuel in the tank so my electrician checked it out and changed it.However the problem persists.Just last week the warning light suddenly called my attention to the fact that the fuel tank was virtually empty.Yet the fuel gauge was showing half tank. What could be the cause? |

Check under the tank, you will see it's depressed, maybe by bumps/gallops, the level float must have been pushed up. Then take the car to a Panel Beater to push the tank out. Then your problem is solved. I need a feedback if it's done. |

i have a very similar problem though i drive a Toyota Carina 1.8. the fuel gauge doesn't accurately read the fuel level in the tank.I've changed the fuel floater assembly twice with no change.I've inspected the bottom part of the tank with no obvious dents. the thing is quite worrisome to the point i buy fuel anytime i use the car irrespective of distance. |

ZIM DRILL:This is so enlightenening. I have been on this issue with my car for almost two years now, and it's really frustrating! I have visited several so called 'rewires' in Lagos and kept buying and replacing the floating mechanism without any success. I also observed they had no scientific way of actually trouble-shooting the unit, other than looking at it over and over. No wonder they were clueless, i'm sure they won't even understand a multimeter reading if they see one. I gotta go DIY and get this sorted out. Thanks once again for the heads-up. |
