JUST as Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State is about putting behind it the recent killing of six secondary school teachers, including a principal, the local government was again plunged into mourning as many students were, on Saturday, murdered in cold blood by some gunmen suspected to be members of the Jama’atul Ahlis Sunnah Lid’ Awati, also known as Boko Haram.

Sunday Tribune learnt that the gunmen killed many students of Monguno Secondary School by slitting their throats, after laying an ambush for them as they returned home from centres where they wrote the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Monguno is 135 kilometres North of Maiduguri, the state capital; and it is considered to be an epicentre of activities of the Islamist sect.

The gunmen, according to a villager, Mallam Aisami, ambushed the candidates on their way home on foot and bicycles. He added that the assailants tied the students’ hands together at their backs and slit their throats on the foot paths leading to the school premises in the afternoon.

He said when the dastardly deed had been done, the gunmen fled on three motorcycles towards Marte Local Government Area of Northern Borno before men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) rushed to the scene three hours after the students were already slewn.

Spokesman of JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, and the Borno State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Musa Inuwa Kubo, confirmed the incident on Saturday.
They stated that it was a very “unfortunate and frightening incident,” decrying all that had been happening in the state.

Sagir and Kubo could, however, not ascertain the exact number of students allegedly killed by the suspects at Monguno.

Kubo, in a telephone interview, told journalists that; “I am calling on the people of Borno State to continue to pray and fast so that the incessant attacks and killings in the state cease peace and unity are restored.

A top female judge (names withheld) was said to have narrowly escaped the bullets of some gunmen suspected to be members of the Islamic militants Boko Haram, when they stormed her residence at the G.R.A, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

A source who did not want his name in print told Sunday Tribune on Saturday, that the incident happened on Thursday evening when some young men came looking for the judge at about the time she normally returned home from office.

According to him, when they arrived the residence in a golf car, one of her aides who was already speaking with her on phone sensed danger when he discovered that the young men were carrying guns and warned her not to come home.

He said: “That was what saved her because immediately she learnt that some armed men were waiting for her at home, she did not bother to go home and after waiting for almost an hour, they drove off in their golf car.”

He disclosed that since the incident occurred, the judge had not returned home as they even learnt that she may be relocating to Abuja as a result of the incident.

This is too bad, the killings by Mohammed Shekau and his acolytes are crimes against humanity. We need to see Islamic cleric clearly come out and dissociate themselves from this depravity as it is smearing a bad name to all Muslims in the country. Rather than the Arewa elders clamouring for ludicrous amnesty on these barefaced monsters, they should be asking for justice on the thousands of Nigerians including many Arewa youths whose lives had been robbed off them at their prime. Hundreds of security personnel, many of northern extraction have paid the ultimate price for this country while fighting these cold hearted beasts. Rather than ensuring that the death of these lot are not in vain, they are making inexcusable request. I pity Nigeria as we are faced with a bleak future if our affairs are being runned by these hapless elites and so called superintendents of the country. Sad to know that we now have Jonathan controlled Nigeria and Shekau controlled Nigeria, smh. May the souls of these students rest in peace with the Almighty.

The much anticipated Amnesty has been proposed, yet these Ndu_Chuks brothers and Boys continue to kill and murder innocent civilians recklessly.

Amnesty my foot.

Thank God, my brother Uche Abraham and his colleagues have heeded our call and are relocating to the South tomorrow or next.

The monster Northern Politicians created when they agreed to declare NE & NW Sharia Law Compliant against the constitution of Nigeria is about to engulf them all.

What gave these monsters the impetus to demand that NW & NE be declared Islamic Republic of Nigeria.

The killing of the students happened yesterday, FYI WAEC is also written on weekends. These idiots should be crushed, I wonder why Jonathan is foot dragging. Previous uprisings like Maitesine and the first Boko haram were crushed by Buhari and Yaradua within months. In fact Buhari crossed the border to Chad to finish them off.

You forgot to add attacks on churches. It can also be argued that the Northern Elites are using Boko to intimidate Christians in the north ahead of 2015 elections. To make sure that GEJ doesn't get the required 25% in states he's not expected to win agAinst muslim candidate.

A Christian Indigene of Borno told me this (I never knew Borno have Christians like Kaduna)

Enemies of progress cannot and must not win. This cowardly act if it actually took place, while horrendous, was not unexpected. This evil will be defeated and Nigerians must remain united especially at this crucial stage.

Saboteurs will fail miserably.

This is very barbaric...

I 'm not for Amnesty in the first place, the fact that they rejected it is a welcome development. The FG government should go ask the Algerian government how they dealt with the muslim brotherhood in the 90s, when they wanted to hold Algerian government to ransom with their jihadist ideology. They were ruthlessly crushed. Same should apply to BH.

“I pray that the trying and challenging times of insecurity of lives and property here in Borno will come to an end soon, by God’s willing and the full support of our leaders in the state.”
Sunday Tribune also learnt from JTF sources that; “until political leaders, along with traditional and religious leaders in Borno State, collectively condemn the activities of members of Boko Haram sect, there might be no peace, despite the deployment of troops and policemen to the state.”
In the meantime, Sunday Tribune investigations indicate that members of the Yoruba and Igbo communities in Borno States had been leaving their places of abode, relocating to other places considered to be safer and more secured.

The @Emboldened is SIMPLY the reason BH is still killing people in the North, in spite of the JTF efforts at significantly reducing the spate of attacks.

A situation where MOST Northern Leaders, esp those in the main theaters of warfare, CONDEMN the JTF far more than they do the BH terrorists demselves (which they rarely do) and blame almost anything but the terrorists and the FUNDAMENTALIST IDEOLOGY that drive them, tells the story poignantly.

RIP to the Innocent students who DIED in such a terrible way cos their own Leaders and the Nigerian State let them down.

citizenisb: The killing of the students happened yesterday, FYI WAEC is also written on weekends. These idiots should be crushed, I wonder why Jonathan is foot dragging. Previous uprisings like Maitesine and the first Boko haram were crushed by Buhari and Yaradua within months. In fact Buhari crossed the border to Chad to finish them off.

Buhari didnt 'crush' Maitesine Massacres, Shagari did. Yar'adua didnt 'crush' any BH at any time; he in fact aggravated the crisis by killing more than 800 people including Mohammed Yusuf (the former leader of BH).

I am however more interested in the Maitesine movement you mentioned. That Sect led by another Religious LUNATIC, Mohammed Marwa(the North seem to produce a lot of them) probably killed over 8000 people in the 1980s (much more than BH today). The REAL reason it was Defeated after a few years so cos the Norhern Religious, Traditional and Political Leaders COMPLETELY CONDEMNED AND REJECTED the movement and the Ethos it projected. This was in no measure encouraged by the fact that Marwa himself (alias 'Maitesine') angered the Religious and most Sunni ordinary Muslms by not only rejecting the Sunnah and other writings in Islam (except the Koran) but cos he later began calling himself the 'Prophet' thereby dishing even the Prophet Mohammed himself; he had also incurred the wrath of the Political Elites of the North by inciting people against them, claiming he was the 'new' Usman Dan Fodio and urging the overthrow of the Feudalistic System the Elites controlled. Maitesine and his Gang also began to kill INNOCENT people that disagreed with him. All these made the Northern Elites (Religious, Traditional and Political) and MOST ordinary Northerners to collaborate with the then Shagari-led FG, to mercilessly CRUSH Maitesine and his Crazy members. People, esp in Kano, even went as far as going to the homes of suspected Maitesine members, killing tehm and even their families.

Comparing the reaction of the North to Maitesine Crisis and their reaction to BH, is almost akin to comparing NIGHT and DAY. BH FOOOLs are mostly never really CONDEMNED. In fact, people make EXCUSES for them and blame EVERY THING/PERSON else rather than the Terrorist themselves for the crisis- JTF, CIA, MOSSAD, US GOVT, FG, GEJ, CPC, ANPP, PDP, IGBOS, CHRISTIANS, MEND, BIAFRA, KANURIS, FOREIGNERS, etc etc.

When Both the Northern Elites and MOST Northerners completely REJECTS BH, and cooperates with Security Agencies (like JTF- who have so far succeeded in significantly reducing the Spates of Attacks) like they did with the Maitesine Crisis, we may be stuck in this BH wahala fro a long time. JTF may reduce the Spates of Attacks and successfully destroy the ability of the terrorists to conduct co-ordinated Attacks like they used to before, BUT we may still be talking of BH still for some time to come.

PS: - Some Northerners have admittedly cooperated with the Security Agencies; One has to ACKNOWLEDEG that. They are unfortuantely too few and the cooperation too far between to produce the kind of results we all need to see- THE COMPLETE DEATH OF THE BH CRISIS.
