On NL,there are lots of genuine business men here and it's our duty to keep this territory safe and condusive for people to do business. However, there are still some fraudulent folks who pop in from time to time and we try our best to fish them out. If you notice any suspicious advert here, report to the moderator or open a thread to that effect.
Onle: I called one of them this evening with respect to one of the cars he added,he said he'll call back that he was in a meeting n I recalled I called 1 last week,he said he was in a meeting still...the 1 I called this eve had to take his time to compose himself! He did call back but I noticed he was a young boy trying to adjust his voice to that of a real man that I guess will fit that of the man whose picture he used on the add...as we talked on, I was suprised he didn't reall the price he added on particular car then as we talked on,he tried talking me into paying into a particular account number which doesn't digest well to me. Well I decided to google it then I found nairaland n after I read most comments,I had reasons to believe that nairaland is properly gauarded! You guys should keep on this good work,it will save a lot of Nigerians from those real bad guys!!!

I have spoken to about 3 of them in the last 5 hrs from now and its my curiosity that got me to find this thread.I was trying to verify the claims of the site and the cars for auction ang was led here. Its the same story thy told me,I will have to pay 25k for processing after which I will pay the balance on delivery of the car to me in Abuja.and all takes about 3-4 days maximum.I have even filed out a document sent to me and returned it to them but yet to make any payment.I will keep the house posted on happenings concerning the deal.

Can't we Nigerians desist from obtaining things from the back door? Don't you know that awoof has no bone but hooks the neck strongly than bone. Anybody duped is a thief. How can you buy a 2010 Highlander for #900 000. Barawo.

They are all out there trying to scam innocent gullible citizens. When its too good to me true. run for ya dear life. My sister almost fell prey. She asked and I told her ... *U want to dance Azonto with your money*. They even have a fake facebook ID: Nigeria Custom Service on Auction Cars. or check link @ https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nigeria-Custom-Service-on-Auction-Cars/446236232105152?ref=stream . With different car pics from different car lots, even Yankee car dealership lot and some accident auction sites pix. I can even see an Ecobank signpost at the background of one. And those pics ought to represent Customs yard for impounded cars. Bloody illiterates!!!

My suggestion goes thus; please If you want something genuinely why not simply go to the right source go to the companies website demand to see the person physically do not I repeat do not pay money into any bodies account you have not met, if possible let the person give you the product or car first sign the necessary authentic documents before you pay. Physical Contact is paramount

I think the best bet is to KEEP-OFF (don't even call the idoits on phone) the moment the cars seems too cheap. I read here on NL that a guy was abducted/kidnapped in the course of going to inspect a car that was advertised at a extremely cheap price.

Hello Mr. Inspired, thanks for ur posts on this issue.
It remains a fact dat many people wants awof cars most especially knowing dat it is the Nigerian Custom Service dat is auctioning these cars.
I will like to get a 2007 Toyota Rav 4 or 2007 Honda Crv for the prices advertised.
My question is, how can someone get the real contacts for the cars being auctioned by custom service? What are the neccessary things required?

Go their HQ in abuja but at the end,why don't you save for the jeeps instead of looking awoof, cos at the end many of the prices posted by these scammers aren't the same rates customs will give u.

Kunleoduwole: I fell victim to the same scammers, but this time it was airconditioners and other home appliances that was advertised on google traders.I actually wanted to buy airconditioner 2hp that was advertised between the price range of 27000 to 40000.I was told to make a commitment of say half of the price ,after which they deliver the appliance to my house address..After making the payment of 15000 to an account number which they sent to me,up till now I have not seen the delivery...I called the sellers phone number a couple of time only for me to hear that the number has been switched off..today is making the 5th day I payed for the product.Pls people should bEWARE of this online scammers posing as genuine traders.

I think our banks need to help in this kind of situation where such scammer can be traced via all the info submitted to the bank before opening the account, am sure if this is done online scam will reduced drastically.

goat leg: I Just Fell A VICTIM of This scammer for a 2004 corolla, I Paid In 270k As Advance Payment Today To His Account And He Didn't connived with someone to make me understand that the car was being delivered from Kebbi State to Enugu. Moderator Should Ban This Guy From Nairaland. I Will Post The Bank Tellers Tomorrow. This Guy Is Scam. Avoid Him Like A Plague. Buyers, B...E...W...A...R...E! He will claim to live very far from your destination as an alibi for more payments before the non-existing car arrives.

His Account Name Is Edwin O. Olisa. With Keystone Bank Account No. 6017842325. He might change account name sha. Please Be Warned........Any Nairalander In Keystone Bank Can juct Assess His Account To Verify That I Paid In 200k And 70k On 12/09/2013 at Keytsone Bank, 34 Ziks Avenue Branch, Enugu. I Will Post The Tellers Morrow, P.....L....E.....A....S....E you’re Warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MODUS OPERANDI OF THE SCAMMER:
I called his mobile contact on the advert, we negotiated nd price which he claim a deposit must be made, I requested for his location and he said KEbbi State. He asked for a commitment to make him leave Kebbi for Enugu State. We agreed I make a commitment to show sign of commitment, by 3am, I did a skye bank e-transfer to his keystone account for 70k amd I told him. He tells me he just called his dispatch driver who picked an ‘escort’ to deliver the car to Enugu from Kebbi. He text me phone no ‘08151158227 o.c mike’. I called o.c. mike the escort and he told 4 hours later they are entering sulaja and I was so happy.
THE DEAL.
Pay in 70k, make a check deposit and present the bank teller to his delivery people and pick ur ride. However, I kept in touch with Mike, and about 12 noon, the seller mails a bill of sale for the ride and asks I print an acknowledge copy for his delivery people to verify that its actually goat leg that is buying the car.
2pm seller calls to say his people will reach very late and need pick a night bus to lagos and as such I shold make more payments to enable them clear more cars as in lagos, as offloading of containers will be done at night in lagos. He said his people were close to Awka by 3pm and I was damn happy, and he pleaded I should even make 100% payment since the car was less than an hour to the coal city.
I really felt convinced. I rushed to he bank to pay in over 1m! Something struck a contemplation in me and I said NOP. I withdrew 200k and deposited in his keystone account, wrote a check depost of 830k and lodged in same account.
He calls 4pm to say he has not got the 200k alert, that am I sincere? Am my really sure, I text the 200k teller to him, he calls back about 4.15pm to say payment conformed. I called escort guy and he said he was in 9th mile. I giggled and imagined me cruising my blue corolla 04.
Escort guy calls to say where we would meet, I said Polo Park shope rite. I kept my baby boy at home and took a taxi from Independence lay out to polo park with wife, alongside the bank tellers and the acknowledge bill of sale.
9th mile to polo park should take 25minnutes drive on average. I called inmins and escort guy didn’t pick for times. Escort guy later picks and says he was assisting clear a traffic hold-up along the way.

Seller calls to say he just called his account officer and the man said I didn’t pay in any cheque, that how can I pay in a cheque in a savings account? Immediately I knew I was in for a ride with mr. trust betrayal.
I knew immediately that car dealers should not have savings account but current for ease of cheque payments. Seller calls to tell me that I am trying to outsmart him abi? That he has instructed his boys to divert elsewhere.
I got a shocker when my wife sent him one of those crime does not pay sms and the scammer replied ‘heaven helps those who help themselves’
He called to tell me that he knows am a professional quantity surveyor, that he too he is a trained and professional swindler! Imagine the blow I felt!
I have been u user of Nairaland since 2008 and the only first deal I tried doing on the site ended up in regrets and pains. Am even considering asking moderator to close my account.
God bless nairalanders!

People would never listen, stick to known car dealers here, Nigerian customs don't auction cars but the price tag is what is entangling buyers.

Imagine a 2010 Venza for 1.2m.

Even if Customs were to be auctioning cars, before the advert hits the pages of papers or comes online the best of the best would have been sold IMO. This is because the Customs officials themselves will go into business for themselves and their families...

Then i checkd customs offical website sayin we shldnt be scammed. I wondered when clearing became 100k in 2013. Seriously i was shaking because i thought it was a lifetime opportunity. Then i rememberd i have a real customs friend @ seme boarder. When i called, there was no auction going on at all. I was advised to hold my money tight. They have caught only 2 fake scammers so far. God bless Nigeria. Some fake names :- Mark 08146780947, Rosemary Uzoma :-08060957326 Fake cars/scammers website :- http://m.halanow.com/78/posts/10/36/page4.html

My suggestion goes thus;
Please before you buy any vehicle or make any payment schedule a day for physical inspection of the particular vehicle in question, pictures are not enough insist on inspecting the vehicle. Please let's be wise how will you make a payment for something you have not seen physically. Thanks.
