Northern elders support emergency rule –
Lawal Kaita

By Ishola Balogun
The latest in the bloodletting that has engulfed the
country in the last three years was the killing of over
120 policemen in Nasarawa State , a few days after the
pogrom in Baga, a fishing community located in the
border town,180 kilometres north of Maiduguri, the
Borno State capital occurred.
About 185 people including women and children were
massacred. From Borno to Kano, Yobe to Nasarawa down
to Adamawa, Kaduna and Plateau, communal clashes are
on the increase, the much desired peace is elusive as
people sleep every day saying their last prayers should
there be any sudden attack. The vampires, cultists,
terrorists and amorphous murderers are on the loose.
Even as the country is enveloped in the smoke from
Boko Haram terror, the bestiality of the blood thirsty
cultists who ambushed three contingent of policemen in
Bayelsa state as well as the plethora of extra judicial
killings by security personnel in the country are sources
of concern.
According to the report released by Amnesty
International, Nigeria’s human rights situation has
deteriorated. Hundreds of people were killed in
politically motivated, communal and sectarian violence
across the country.
It states further that violent attacks attributed to the
religious sect Boko Haram increased, killing more than
500 people with the security personel responsible for
hundreds of unlawful killings, most of which remained
uninvestigated. Around two thirds of all prison inmates
were still awaiting trial.
There were 982 people on death row. No executions
were reported. Forced evictions continued throughout
the country, and violence against women remained rife.
More than 200 people died in clashes in Plateau State
alone, in relation to long-standing tensions and land
conflicts between different ethnic groups.
Reacting to the latest development, the former governor
of Kaduna State, Alhaji Lawal Kaita said the decision to
impose emergency rule Borno, Yobe, Adamawa states
was well thought out. “It is in order, every right thinking
person will support it. All we want is peace and if this
will usher in the peace, why should anyone kick against
it?” he stated.
Lawan agreed that Nigeria as a country has never had it
so bad but opined that with this action of the
government, things will begin to change in some of
these violent prone states. “We will see the positive
things this decision will bring so that the killings will
stop.
He added that if the killings do not stop, then Nigeria
must do something else. When asked what will that be,
the former governor maintained: “I don’t know”
He added that all hands must be on deck to stop the
killing. “we just have to stop the killings enough is
enough”
As the National Assembly is yet to ratify the declaration
of state of emergency in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa
states, many believe the ratification will scale through in
view of the fact that it has received overwhelming
support of the masses in the last few days.
Kaita said retaining all the democratic structures in the
states where emergency rule have been placed, makes
the decision widely accepted. The former governor
stated that it is not witch-hunting any body but the
desire to have a lasting peace is what is important.
He added: People should not look at it politically or
otherwise by from the prism of sincere approach to have
a lasting peace. He said: “Whether it is political or not,
all we are craving for is peace. So, retaining all the
democratic structures in the states where emergency
rule has been declared does not matter. What matters is
the end result of achieving peace.”
He declared that the entire north is in support of the
action. “It is peace we want, we don’t want war, so any
one who do not support it should come out to say he
desired the latter.
Let us not be deceived by anybody, the elders are in
support of it and if a state of emergency will be declared
in my own house to bring peace, let it be,” he opined.
As it is now, all eyes are on the military high command
to restore peace in those areas.

NOOOOOOOO!

We don't want peace, not just yet!
When your useless brothers were attacking and killing people at will did you call them to order?

When the presidency and Nigerians were beggeing your boko haram brothers to stop their senseless attacks, did you ask them to desist?

When your boko brothers were threatening war ant to impose islamic law in the country what did you do?

Now the table is about to be turned around, your already crying. You've seen nothing yet. You can't just start begging now and asking for peace, not untill we kill all of you. We must fight and kill all those useless insurgents and terrorists and their sponsors and supporters.

JTF must do the job NOW! NO MERCY!!!
