The 2013 edition of the Women4Africa Awards held Monday 20th May, 2013 at the Royal borough of Chelsea and Kensington.

Celebrating the ‘best of African women’, the Mayor, Councillor Buckmaster and Mayoress of Chelsea and Kensington opened the event with inspiring speech to the over 800 participants.

The Keynote speaker for the night Sir Paul Judge, told of his knowledge about the African continent and his love for African Women.

A participant observed that there were “16 Categories, 5 Recognition awards and an electrifying red carpet reception”.

The event included sessions of Afro beat entertainment by Superstar Dele Sosimi after which the audience were treated to comedy by Funmbi and followed with music by Deejay Gabe.

In the presentations, the “International African Woman of the Year” was awarded to Mrs. Abike Dabiri.

Also, the award of “Special African woman award” was presented to Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, who was honoured at the US department of States two months ago in the International Women of Courage Awards (IWOC) program.

Dr. Joe told 9ralife.com that the awards occasion was her first time of visiting together with her family to the UK.

The Women4Africa’s 2nd Annual Awards has been described by most participants as the most honourable event for African’s.

“No organisation in Europe has ever created a platform to celebrate African Women, so Women4Africa is the first of this kind”, an observer said.
