It looks like Nairaland has been a hotbed for all of Nigeria's lazy, SAGGING, jobless youths LOL. O boy, see how everyone is getting upset. If you're a reasonable person this law shouldn't effect you. I find it funny. Seun may have to reconsider his APC bias, Okorocha is coming for his primary demographic !
so you do not see any absurd and frankly utterly ridiculous about a government dictating to people how to dress?
Re: Okorocha Threatens To Arrest Idle Youths by Ama28(f): 9:33pm On May 21, 2013
If he is yet to speak with private sector and even his own ministries then why call out the youth and start making promises and threats of arrest?
Job creation is not a day job Mr Governor! It takes policies and planning, not just promises and political propaganda!

Imo is yet to recruit since his administration and yet people are living in false hopes!
Job creation takes strong PPP, so not just a "gathering at the square affair"
Imo indeed must be better Mr. Okorocha

If the kids go to their representative and tell them what they want to do, the rep will look for it. I'm assuming that while they're waiting they aren't going to be able to be arrested because they're registered as waiting. If they simply refuse it's their own fault

I think it's a great idea though at first when I read about it i thought it was foolish. Many of the unemployed in Nigeria are unemployed because they want someone to make them a minister of petroleum for no reason with no experience or education. Until someone makes them a minister they feel 'too big' for 99% of the open jobs in Nigeria. I don't feel bad for people that complain of unemployment in Nigeria because there is always something to do in the country. Underemployment is the real issue because most people don't get paid enough to survive but unemployment in nigeria, Imo in particular usually comes from the arrogance of the unemployed.

Okorocha has done the right thing. If people can't be humble and work for their daily bread regardless of the job then they're creating a problem for the rest of society because so much needs to be done in Nigeria and so many refuse to do anything.

This is all now becoming really comical, arresting youths for sagging? Really? Am I the only one who seems to notice a certain 'Right' being trampled upon here?
On to the next one now... He gonna also arrest those who refuse to register with his program hence making himself a dictator and at the same time going against a certain 'freedom code'... Oh well, oh well..

I think the title of the thread is quite misleading. Rochas called a town hall meeting with youths in which the statements were made with emphasis on the need for youths to embrace agriculture. The poster picked a side statement and emphasized on it.

Please tell us how you will tackle unemployment if you become a gvoernor?

This is how you know an educated illiterate.

This is a democracy. Anyone who does not want to work is on his own, but that is not a crime. YOU CANNOT ARREST SOMEONE FOR REFUSING TO WORK OR REFUSING TO ENROL IN YOUR PET PROJECT, OR REFUSING TO GET A JOB! Why can't you and your clueless Rochas get this simple fact?

As for Sagging, even though I think the folks doing it must be pretty daft, sagging is NOT indecent exposure and does not show off any of the body's erogenous zones. Stupidity, yes, but a personal choice. What the heck is wrong with Rochas?!

Defend your democracy if you have common sense and stop foisting your moral values on others when they are committing no crime.

The posters source is a fake site. Here's the real news from a reputable media.

The programme which was launched at the Heroes Square in Owerri, the Imo State capital, South East Nigeria brought together over 10,000 unemployed graduates from all the 27 local government areas in the state.

The programme is aimed at bringing all unemployed youths in the state together, identifying their different areas of specialisation and empowering them with the necessary tools which will get them fully engaged before they are gainfully employed in their desired jobs.

While decrying the high rate of unemployment in the country, the governor said corruption, selfishness and primitive accumulation of wealth by political leaders had been the major cause of unemployment in the country.

He added that as part of the action plan mapped out for the Youth Must Work programme, the state government had set aside an interest-free loan of N5 billion for thrift arrangement which will aid the youths to set up integrated farming in their communities.

Mr. Okorocha said that government would also sponsor 100 youths to South Africa to train as pilots and 500 of them to Singapore for entrepreneurial training.

Governor Okorocha stated that one of the cardinal objectives of the Youth Must Work programme is to develop the economy of the state through agriculture for which the state government had provided one hectare of land in each of the 560 communities in the state.

Maybe he should go and ask Obama how he created employment in America that saw the Dow Jones rise to a record high this year. And Obama did not arrest sagging youths and the unemployed, otherwise three quarters of Alanta youths would have been in jail, let alone the other 50 something states.

Rochas is clueless as to what governance initials. He is just like Odili who believed in sharing money around. Imo State has absolutely nothing going for it other than cheap bars, cheap hotels and not clubs. The government is still the highest employer of labor in Imo State. If he wants ideas on job creation, he should ask renowned economists to teach him. PPP is one, investors incentives like tax cuts and breaks is another, electricity is one major aspect that other sensible governments are investing seriously in which Imo State has none. Imo indigenes cross into neighbouring states and obtain local government identifications to get work. Rivers States workforce has a lot of Imo State people's in it. How about investing massively in agriculture and its various by products, should I continue?

Your governor spends more time in the news, building billboards and converging Imo people in his freedom square to either make them one fake promise, celebrate his birthday or share awoof kerosene. Tell that person to focus on governance and quit the shinanegans. His crap is getting stale.

Most Nigerian graduates are in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt searching for greener pastures while there is a lot of money to be made from agriculture which is under-explored. We must not all work in an oil firm. My Governor is doing the right thing by giving priority to agriculture because it is the only sector that has the potential to employ up to 40million Nigerians. Forget about the false news from that tabloid and read the real news before jumping in to take a shot at the only Governor that listens and addresses criticisms.

I would ban trousers...it is too hot to wear it in Naija. Everyone must wear shorts or instant fine of 25K or 20 days working in state prison gang (cleaning roads, building houses, planting yams etc...)

The spare cloth saved would be added together to make special 'Imo shorts' for exports sale only so that much needed forex go enter state coffers. I would get South Africa Pro female twerkers (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UMzHIFw7Yo) to do music video to make the style popular. Put the youth to work in the factory to make the shorts.

Also ban mobile phone use for those without job. All unemployed pesins must report to village chief at 6am for communal work, all unemployed men longer than 1 year to be castrated. Their balls sent to china for export delicacy. Dem chinko no waste anything.

Oya, thyat is how I start Imo jobless revolution
