The Iddo Kano route was running in the 1990s, this was during the Abacha era. To put trains back to that 1990 level in 2013 and call it "transformation", like I say shows you are not a serious person.

Secondly, to ask what was done during OBJs era is the most silly thing. OBJ secured part of the Finance for that project though a loan from the China Africa development fund. Rehabilitation of that Iddo Kano line also started under OBJ.

Thirdly, even with the old rickety trains, there seems to be no strategy for effectively maintaining and sustaining the project. How do you explain trains breaking down frequently and people having to spend almost three days on journeys? This is how you measure performance on the success of transport projects and not through photos.

Fourthly, this is another reason why countries do not take us serious. In this century, when you bring the international media, from economist, to CNN and then to BBC; and keep showing them 1800 trains as "improvement", of course they will smile with you in your country. However, when they go back to their country, they look at you as stupid. To develop, you must think big, you must continually improve and not stick to the 1960's and call it "transformation".

Someone says, "India is a super power with rickety trains". India is no super power, India is developing just like you. However, India's level of development is way above yours and so is also India's infrastructural development.

Not bad for a sector that has been in the rut. Proper maintenance to use this system to enhance commerce within the nation.

Though, this might be a snail-like development but you guys should commend Mr. President who thought it fit to do something about this mode of transportation. Many presidents/heads of states yet nothing positive to say about railway transport. As far as I'm concerning, this is not movement without motion...
Thumbs up Oga Jona...

Ask urself can we afford those modern trains mind u those trains are trains in first world countries and are expensive to build and maintain, if we start building those trains we can only afford few at a time.

India with economy of 1.824 trillion and Nigeria with about 300 billion u shall not expect us to be at the same level in terms of development with India

That guy is a mischief maker. Even from the OP, the govt is developing both the narrow guage rail lines and speed trains. But the mischief makers, want the govt to have finished building bullet trains in 3yrs with N4trillion annual budget (about the size of the budget of some football clubs in England). Nonsense

I'm telling you that OBJ did not contribute N1 to the progress that has been made so far in the railways. OBJ signed PAPER contracts for railway modernization (building of fast trains) in the dying days of his administration. That contract remained on paper till the Yar Adua govt came to power and cancelled the contract because OBJ signed multibillion dollars railway contract without any provision for funding. Because there was no money, Yar Adua had no choice but to cancel the contract

How can any sane person call this transformation? What are you transforming or rather has been transformed here - locomotive trains of year 1970/80s to locomotion trains of year 2000's?

Is this the utter foolishness of mindless mediocrity that some Nigerians have been brainwashed with? undecided
