Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Monday received the 2012 One Day Governor of the State and winner of the Spelling Bee Competition, Miss Lilian Ogbuefi at the Executive Council Chambers of the State House Alausa, stating that the state decided to resuscitate the various literacy skills enhancing programmes because they have proved to be useful building blocks of character.

The Governor who spoke when he received the One Day Governor who was accompanied by some members of her cabinet added that the various programmes like the schools debate, schools quiz have all proved their worth since they were reintroduced.

He said the fact that the winner is a product of a public school is a reaffirmation of the industry that has gone into the revitalization of public schools by the state government despite the fact that it cannot compel people on what choice to make between a public school and a private school for their wards.

Jul 26, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Monday hosted the 2010 One Day Governor, Miss Oluwatoyin Adeosun at the Lagos House, Ikeja reiterating that the State Government would continue to confront challenges in the field of education.

Governor Fashola who spoke at the Executive Council Chambers when the One Day Governor and members of her executive council addressed members of the State's Council added that all problems cannot be solved in one day but would continuously receive Government's attention.

Governor Fashola explained that the State Executive Council has already tabled the issue of provision of more classrooms for discussion at the weekly meeting, declaring that in the last three years, the administration has provided over 250, 000 classrooms round the state.

The Governor explained that the heartwarming part of the provision of the classrooms is that they all come with well equipped laboratories and Information Technology facilities which are vital for ensuring the imparting of quality learning.

Governor Fashola commended the initiative of former First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Oluremi Tinubu for initiating the One Day Governor's programme through her New Era Foundation, saying the programme has produced students who recorded outstanding performances in Universities.

Talk is cheap. It is not enough to blow grammar. I created a thread trying to promote this same Buy "Made In Nigeria" Fashola is talking about sometime ago. Though the thread made front page, but I cant recall any of the praise singers on this thread applauding and embracing the concept. In fact, most of them avoided the thread like a plague.

Fashola has spoken well but he should also practice what he preaches. That is the difference. I buy made in Nigeria (except when there is none). But does Fashola buy made in Nigeria? Does he buy rice milled in Nigeria? Does the Lagos state govt patronise locally assembled vehicles? Does the state health officials insist on made in Nigeria pharmaceuticals and hospital supplies? Fashola should have given EXAMPLES of made in Nigeria products he and the state govt patronise. That alone would have made the speech meaningful. He should also tell us the conscious efforts of his govt to promote made in Nigeria products. Until that is done, its all talk, talk, talk. Talk that evaporates immediately after it was delivered.
