Jarus:

And that's the only thing you saw in my post?

Well, fyi, 9-5 is generally used to describe salaried, office jobs. Not the time that matters.

If you see me use 8-5 (which is normal Nigerian working hours), then I've only localized the generic name.
Mr Jarius please what is the name of the blog that you said the guy blog christian things please.

Exactly. there are many blogs in Western countries that are not 'original' as well.

Often, we choose our courses of study, sectors of the economy we work in, companies we work for and our businesses because of money. 'Quick money' or not

@Lakunlelogunro I started my own blog, because I believed if Linda can do it, then why can't I? From my own blogging experience, entertainment & sex stories attract most traffic. Most people just open a blog for the sake of being called bloggers.Linda inspires me, & I know I'll be her male version soon.I copy & paste-we all do,but I only copy when there's a VERY long story & LESS time. Feel free to check my blog at http://olakunleologunro..com Corrections are welcome. THANKS.

We share the same thing in common. I love the fun in blogging.

Hm.... Thought of this too. I wonder why everyone just became bloggers' overnight. All these started from the era when E-Book sellers, motivational speakers sell e-books on how to make millions from blogs, How to Add google adsense bla bla bla. I don't even have megabite to waste. I only visit www.demorrieaux., www.Ofilispeaks.com, www.Olalekanakangun..com and sometimes www.bellanaija.com career section. No meg to waste on Linda or Ladun! Their gists will definitely stream my twitter account jare....

Great topic.. I have always wondered myself, though I own a blog too, but in as much as I try to refrain from so called 'juicy' entertainment stories, I have noticed that Nigerians are not really into something very 'serious'. They won't read something serious, they prefer unserious ones like "Tonto Dike Goes To The Toilet" and "Jim Iyke Slaps Nadia Buhari".. It is a Nigerian thing.. You have to go along with what they want.. Most of my posts are very serious topics about all happening in Nigeria, whether positive and Negative.. I am more of the News in Nigeria, not celebrity gossip, but I can't still do without posting them once in a while to capture a certain audience. We have to live with it, unfortunately.

I think in general Nigeria is under blogged. It might be over blogged when it comes to celebrity stuff, but Nigeria is such a huge country with a lot of different issues that are yet to be blogged about. The key is to find about 5 blogs that really resonate with you, and following them. There are so many niches that are yet to be covered. I returned to Naija in 2011 and it strikes me everyday how much there is that can be done. I just started blogging about my observations and experiences. Unlike most blogs, I focus on quality not quantity, so 1 or 2 post per week. I try to be as creative as possible and keep it relative short. The blogs that I think are actually creative and i actually look forward to reading are tech cabal, naijanomics, omojuwa, mytestimonyblog and of course mine digivarsity. grin grin grin

It seem like the definition of a blog to most folks is entertainment, gossips and sex-related news. However, there are credible blogs run by Nigerians. Personally, I like www.ofilispeaks.com, the inspirational section of www.bellanaija.com, and for tech needs, I visit www.doncaprio.com or www.ogbongeblog.com. For Naija music, I visit www.notjustok.com and www.1triberadio.com. I'm sure there are several other blogs that are doing very well without necessarily talking about celebs.

However, I don't think there's anything wrong with entertainment blogs - there is a demand for them. Time is a true measure of any credible blog. I believe the readers have the final say on how they want to consume information and they ultimately decide their preferable source of info.

That being said, I do blog about global issues, technology, sports, and self improvement - check out my blog....www.infonubia.com

misterh: Nice thread. I've heard lots of people complain because of lack of passion. While it's true that there is nothing wrong in blogging for pay, it's stupid going to a lindaikeji or a bellanaija to copy and paste to your blog and expect money to roll in. Most of the blogs in Nigeria are entertainment related. This is because it is the most readily available niche. People don't want to go into serious niche like education, health, arts et al. When i heard of blogging in 2009, what came to my mind was just pouring out my mind. Money wasn't my motivation.
Jarus, congrats on the rating your blog just received. Surely going places.

This reveals a lot about our values and sentiments;it is anything but lofty. Its all about Tonto this, don jazzy that. And not about things of real value like technology, science, history, stong solution oriented opinion etc We are not patient enough to consider the fact that good content blogs will generate traFfic and faithfull followers on the long run.

Afam4eva: Have you noticed that huge increase of Nigerian owned blogs? Go to the celebrity and entertainment section and you will be slapped by the number of topics on mostly celebrities with sources to individual blogs. This trend would have called for celebrities if these bloggers were reporting news the way they see it, but most of these blogs are copycats who just go to Linda Ikeji or any other popular blog and lift their content and paste on their websites. Go to all these blogs and you will notice that it's all one and the same content.

This brings me to the real meaning of "Blogging" cos it seems a lot of people have derailed in this respect. Blogs are a way through which an individual can air their mind mind. Initially, it was very similar to what a diary does, it's just that unnlike diaries which are personal and private, Blogs are not. Now that blogs have become more va va voom and commercial, one would expect that these bloggers will act as journalist and fish for their stories, but no way. They just keep copying other people's content verbatim. That's why most blogs in Nigeria today are entertainment blogs.

What stops a photographer from starting a blog about photography and taking pictures of different Nigerian scenaries, cities, towns cities and uploading so that NIgerians can appreciate the look and feel of the Nigeria that they have not been opportuned to see.

What is wrong with a political analysts having a blog where they will air their opinion on political events, very similar to what Jarus is doing currently.

Why can't students who are proficient in mathematics start a blog where they can solve difficult maths question and also get dies from other mathematicians.

This is what blogs are supposed to be and not all these recycled "Tonto Dike slaps Jim Iyke in broad daylight", Genevieve wears red dress to Chidi's birthday", "Tiwa Savage says she loves her fiancee".

What's your opinion in what blogs have become?
we masters students at dept of parasitology and entomologt just launch a blog where post our research assignment, project and others. We invite u to read and be enlightened abt some tropical diseases in Nigeria and African.

Seun has to do something to make Nairaland more visible. NL has the potential to rival HuffingtonPost.

Unlike Linda Ikeji and Bellnaija ,Nairaland is a brand that has nutured rancour and promoted very bitter ethnic/religious friction all in the bid to drive traffic.I'd never seen a forum that provoked ethnic so much ethnic rife-which is not my nature, until I joined nairaland in 2006. This is a forum that started with critism of housa, minorities, christians and Igbos except moslems and Yorubas.Once you react equaly,ur post is either deleted or ur are banned.

The annoying thing is not mainly about what users post;cos they may not mean that in real life, but about how the owner remain partial about the topics they are quick to allow.Political and social topics that are always laced with ethnic bigotery, denigrating one ethnic group or another. It is desperation, very unethical.

That is why you cannot see the young man seun in an ethnically diversified public function. He cannot reckon with his own brand cos of fear of public embarrassment.Other bloggers socialise freely with clear conscence.

Serious companies look out for these things cos they do not want their brand to be dented or caught up in a forum of political and ethnic rancour.

Thats why a Price Water Cooper cannot associate with nairaland no matter the traffic.I personaly decided not to associate with any services or item advertised on nairaland.

You can accuse Seun of anything, but not ethnic partisanship. I don't know why it is difficult to understand that the seeming tilting of forum to an opinion/sentiments is simply because the people that hold that opinion/sentiment are either in the majority or the most vocal. If anything, Igbos are the most officially pampered tribeon NL, just as I agree Islam/Muslims are pampered.

You however have a valid point in what association can bring to a blog.

For example I sent an email to the CEO of a Nigerian bank for interview request to be published on my blog, and she called someone that knew me and explained why she may not be accepting the request. It has to do with my publishing a scoop on INEC chair and a couple other strong political views (then I was combining politics with career as focus of the blog, before I later dropped political blogging.) She didn't want to have her interview published in a blog with negative stories about political office holders, to protect political interest of her bank.

Ha !ha! Ha!! How u dey.long time.My other I.Ds are talking anyway.

Pls let me not stray this discussion.Sincerely I want u to see the light.I would want u to do something please. Its a research that may take u time but it is worth it.Some doctors worldwide in terminal wards of hospitals have documented evidences of patients who died and somehow came back to life.

These patients had the same experiences and saw the same thing.I personaly have a family friend that just had that experience.A woman.Sincerely and from the bottom of my heart, what she saw was beyond description. No one hears a little of it and not recognise its true.Almost like a dejavu to everyone. This is part of the thing that drive me.it will not end.

I also have a medical doctor friend that takes time to document what he observes in terminal wards.let me not derail this thread, cos is somehow personal between us.

But please find out for urself,it is all about the most important thing that exist.
