CRAZE FOR THE FORBES REPORTS- Olufemi Ajasa
Wondering how much this people had coughed out just to be celebrated on Forbes cover page (we all knw space in print is for sale as time on electronic media)?juxtaposing this with the several international ratings and awards that the country chases in order to rig statistics in their favor, we will clearly see that it's better to invest in our economy sincerely than spend huge fund to deceive the international community who were never at a time convinced by our deceits. At a time our fore fathers were enslaved...right now we sell ourselves even to the wrong market. This xtrashow of achievements is like the Owambe thing, one person does it and it becomes the public craze. In this manner, we have consistently portrayed ourselves as people who spend any amount to impress those who don’t value them.

Infact, I was inspired to typed ‘meaning of Owambe’ in google and saw something far more interesting -------- As defined by urban dictionary : A large, grandiose party thrown by Nigerians anywhere in the world, especially Yoruba Nigerians that involves a lot of food, dancing, loud music, and spraying (Nigerian term meaning the act of throwing money on a dancing person). There are often numerous guests, and usually the guests are divided into groups according to their aso ebi(uniform - some people might wear white and blue, some gold and red, etc). These parties take days and sometimes weeks and months of preparation, and have been known to block entire streets and roads, especially in Lagos, Nigeria..... http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=owambe (check here).
