UGHELLI—A political group,
Urhobo Democratic Assembly,
UDA, has condemned what it
described as the senseless
killings in the renewed hostilities
between the Ijaws and Itsekiris
in Warri North Local Government
Area of Delta State, enjoining
parties to cease fire in the
interest of peace.
He advised the people to sheathe
their swords, saying “even with
the killings, at the end of the day,
the people will still come to a
round-table for dialogue.”
He called on the state
government not to relent in its
efforts to restore peace to the
area.
The group also lamented the
deaths of Senator Pius Ewherido,
representing Delta Central
Senatorial District and Senator
William Eradajaye.
National President of UDA, Chief
Arthur Akpowowo, spoke at a
meeting of the group in Eku,
Ethiope East Local Government
Area of the state.
He said: “It is sad to hear of
Ewherido’s death, realising that
we (Urhobo nation) have lost a
lot of our political front runners
such Chief Patrick Bolokor, Chief
Efe Akpobi, Chief Elizabeth
Ogbon-Day, Chief Fred Brume,
amongst others.
“It is heartbreaking, but the most
painful is that of Senator
Ewherido, who only celebrated
his 50th birthday a few months
ago.”
