Her place of residing matter most. I guess she like to be a bit descent and might be thinking of acquiring accomodation at VGC/V.I, Lekki, Ikoyi e.t.c. Then she'll have to borrow in additon to that 130k !

Yes, she will survive. At least, she won't just come in empty-handed from the UK. I know she'll come in with money which will help in her accomodation and some other stuffs.

What! You don't mean it..when a family man is maintaining his family with 40% of that. You need to set your priorities right and keep improving on yourself with your meagre resources, with God on one's side that #130k will soon be a tithe. Believe.

Dprinzcolection: Yes it is possible only if you will cut your coat according to your size.
130k is a lot of money to some people and to some 130 is too small.

if she is not planning to look for accommodation, just to feed herself and fuel d car,not staying 100 miles from d workplace and not planning to spend for a guy, she will have savings with dat salary.
She will definitely survive and hv savings , some survive with less. Wish her goodluck.

I bet you are not in uK. taxes alone are enough to reduce your life span

You forgot you need to make money first before paying taxes. Nigerian government won't bother taxing the citizens because it is a parallel society, the government on one lane and the masses on another lane. I rather pay high taxes for good roads, quality education for my kids, clean drinking water, constant electricity supply, and a perfect pension scheme....
As for the discrimination, any Nigerian will be discriminated against when they the try to disply the some of the weak and shamful education that is offered to them by their greedy government as soon as they cross the boarder not only in the UK.

Ms_Steph: Lagos is not expensive. But if its abuja or ph it is too small especially wen it comes to accommodation. But since d 130k comes in monthly its very ok. Pple get 20k monthly but still survive

I'm afraid I disagree on the part that PHc is more expensive than Lagos. On cost of accomodation alone, the rent costs you get in places on the Lagos mainland that I consider 3rd rate is so expensive I dare not think of it (500k +). And the Island?.....heh..well. But in PHC, you can still get a pretty good flat in a decent area (GRA inclusive) at a decent price (300k +).

Abuja is a totally diffferent story.

N130000, is though small but big even in Nigeria.
Over 100,000 Nigerians survive with that amount, a car and a family monthly.

over 300,000 Nigerian youths survive with that amount and a car monthly.

Over 1000,000 Nigerians survive with that amount monthly, and over 10million Lagosians survive with less than that.

So let her put on the survival mentality, and join the ever busy lagosians in their day to day survival.

Erelu_Y: Our baby of the family is returning to Lagos from the UK and the lecturing job on offer pays around ₦130,000 per month. Can a single person used to UK lifestyle survive on this income in today's Lagos? If so, how? She's not extravagant but lives a basic, decent lifestyle: no partying, clubbing, etc, (her only weakness is she likes and does have a nice 4 x 4 which suits Naija's bad roads), just a typical acada girl. Your contributions would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Please tell her to stay back in UK, she cant survive in Lagos with that amount, meanwhile let her or you connect me with the job, because one of my cousin is seriously looking for a job.
Thanks

Osogagba: Why is it that people just respond to issues raised on NL without fully understanding the contexts of those issues. The main cause of concern for Erelu who posed the question is the fact that the impending returnee is already used to her living standards in the UK. If she comes back on a 130K salary, would she get something similar or close? This to me means taking consideration some of our peculiar challenges like lack of regular power, water, etc. Would she have to spend money out of that salary providing some of those necessities for herself?
remember that many live in slums in UK,so let her tell us wat she earns and her monthly savings after tax in UK. There are à lot of people who will take d nxt available flight to Lagos frm UK to grab the job,nt all that glitters are gold.
