Nature of the crisis makes it better to make Nigeria too hot for them, from Libya-Mali-Xhad transit is easy what Nigeria can do is create buffer zone and cont to deny them space

How about cutting off their support base using poverty eradication programs and diplomacy. As long as they think there is a military solution there will be fighting. Nigeria should be doing what they are best known for, bribing the leaders with money, greed is more powerful than sex

Interesting, and while we play hide and seek, they continue building/increasing their numbers, weapons, skills, and confidence. The worst part is this: they may soon start attracting more jihadi groups.

IbnSultaan:

You guys are unaware of the shit up there
The military is battling two groups
One in the madara sambisa axis
Other in Northen Borno lake Chad axis

The groups do not move or engage the military like they did before but target vulnerable convoys and patrol teams .

In the lake Chad area the islands , some of which are Chadian served as hideouts so also the huge mountainous terrain linking Nigeria n CMR ,.
It will take years of both regional military ops and socioeconomic development to degrade the threat

Yes, i agree that things could be done better, but this is an ambush, didn't US special forces (Green Berets) recently suffer an ambush in Niger republic?

Some of these things are unavoidable, however it is not frequent. I believe this is the second incident of an ambush in the combat zone in the last 7 months.

The other was the attack on the UN convoy.

It is not possible to police that entire area, we would need to deploy 200k men within that region to effectively police it. We currently have 20k - 25k in the entire NE area of operations.

Being g reduced to small Cadre of hard core die hard does not weaken them. Sure they can no longer hold massive tracts of land but they still have the means to strike out and do harm.

The only real way to wipe them out is to create a safe area security wise to deal with the root causes of there power. Education, economy and perversion religion.

Do you police unpopulated areas?
lionel4power:

We could probably borrow a handbook from others. There's also vast pockets of unpopulated areas between Damascus to Deir ez zor, yet those areas got swept and secured. The last pockets of enemy concentration are currently sieged and getting attacked daily.

It's like over here, we don't have a clue or know the clear extent of the terrorist groups. And if we do, then it's clear that the hierarchy is not fit to hold their office when they do not have a solution to the problem.

The USA army and Niger forces where not wiped out and reinforced. But you are correct. Ambushes by there nature are built to wipe out the defenders fast.

If this statement were true, and they were swept and secured as you claim, Lieutenant-General Valery Asapov wouldn't have been killed in Syria.

You cannot, nobody can effectively predict ambushes.

Oga, you are making baseless, blanket, unfounded statements that simply do not have any basis on the reality of the situation on the ground in the NE.

I know you did bro. I'm only saying it is a photo-shop, i believe it is meant to give potential customers an idea of what the vehicle would look like with an RWCS.

The vehicle looks stunning by the way, with the RWCS.

It's pretty normal for manufacturers to add renders of weapons on vehicles. Think of it as a visual demonstrator.

You do know the Russian General was killed not by an ambush but on the frontline right. The last picture of him was during the crossing of the Euphrates. The terrorists were only separated by the river.
It's different from getting hit from behind son.

Courtesy of the official SAPS twitter a Taakie in Nyanga or Phillipi East operating. A few months ago after a hostage situation in Gugulethu the minister of police posted a group photo of himself with what appeared to be the entire WC Special Task Force without their faces obscured. Believe the photo is still up, they didn't seem to mind.

well all aircraft are would fly IFR in some point in its travel. VFR is usually done near the landing site.

Visual flight rules (VFR) are a set of regulations under which a pilot operates an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_flight_rules

NAF REFURBISHES FIRE TRUCKS 20 YEARS AFTER BEING DISUSED
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has made substantial progress in its efforts at refurbishing the disused fire trucks in its bases all over the country. So far, 17 out of the 24 fire trucks earmarked for refurbishment have been successfully repaired and handed over to the respective units. The latest set of 2 refurbished fire trucks was handed over to 107 Air Maritime Group Benin on 5 October 2017. It is noteworthy that most of the fire trucks being refurbished had been parked for over 20 years as 'Beyond Economic Repairs' . Furthermore, the refurbishment is being undertaken by a local firm, utilizing Nigerian engineers and mostly locally sourced materials and spares.
With the refurbishment of the fire trucks, the NAF is now able to more independently provide fire cover for aircraft operations at its bases thereby enhancing operational safety. As part of its corporate social responsibility, the NAF is also now better positioned to provide complementary services with regards to fire fighting in the host communities. The local firm, on 7 October 2017, commenced the refurbishment of another set of 2 fire trucks at 041 Communications Depot, NAF Base Shasha in Lagos.
The leadership of the NAF, being mindful of the enormous cost of procuring new fire trucks and the scarce resources in the nation, decided to explore the option of locally refurbishing the fire trucks. The foregoing decision by the NAF leadership is in tandem with one of the key drivers of the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. That key driver is ‘Robust logistics support and maitenance culture to sustain platforms and equipment serviceability’. Below are pictures of the fire trucks before and after refurbishment
