Read somewhere that a Russian mig-29 locked on Turkish f-16 jet along turkish-Syria border but didn't shoot.

The surprise was that the Turkish jets were scrambled to intercept the Russians and guess who locked on it's target first grin

I just hope this whole fiasco doesn't lead to another war

Reading the Turks and Americans hyper-ventilate on this issue is so hilarious!

There is yet no evidence that the Russians have a MIG-29 in Syrian. It's likely a Syrian or Iranian MIG-29.

Truth is though, I wouldn't want a conflict between the Russians and Turks, i mean for one, the Turks are no push-overs, the have the world's 3rd largest F-16 fleet behind the U.S and Egypt at 260 planes.

They also fly the most modern, all over 260 Turkish F-16s are of comparable standard as American F-16s. They are better than Block 52s.

It would be unwise to under-estimate Turkey. They are a very significant NATO power, not a push-over.

Who is better trained?

*In hindsight, looking at what does corvettes in the caspian sea did from over 1500km away, Turkey might not stand a chance.

The Russians are better trained and equipped.

Syria is being turned into a test and evaluation ground for Russia's new weapon systems.

The performance of the SU-34 will cause the Americans to miss the now retired F-111 Aardvark.

The B-1 is strategic asset and a bit huge for the task. Carries a massive punch!

What I am trying to saying is that the performance of the SU-34 in Syria will demonstrate the "importance" of having a plane of its class.

But Mike

Su-34 is "pew-pew"

when Lancer is "Dakka-Dakka"

When both have simular flight characteristics... only thing being the Su-34 has *some* air-to-air capability

Yeah, I get what your saying... dont get me wrong. I kinda have this weird fantasy where RSA buys Su-34's... but come on bugger, the Ameri-fats have the Strike-Eagle/A-10(soon to be F35/F35) and Lancer combo which is waaay better than the Su-30/Su-25 and Su-34 combo

MILITARY INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO PROPOSE REFORMS

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Gabriel Olonisakin has inaugurated a 10-member committee to study the doctrines and procedures of the military and come up with workable plans to renew the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
The committee which has until 16 November to submit its reports is expected to identify real and urgent measures and recommend short, medium and long term reforms needed to reinvigorate AFN’s professionalism. The committee’s suggestions would be used to enhance Nigerian military’s performance in the current security challenges in the country, especially, in the North East.
Terms of reference include; to re-appraise previous AFN’s transformation activities and suggest options for realistic reforms, to determine ways of improving on operational efficiency in the services, to examine ways of fostering mission-oriented training in the armed forces.
Others are to evaluate the foreign courses that are currently attended by AFN personnel and suggest ways of ensuring that such courses tally with desired milestones, consider measures for improving on troops adherence to Law of Armed Conflicts in Internal Security and Peace Support Operations, determine impediments to effective logistics support and recommend the way forward, identify current constabulary engagements of the AFN that could be relinquished to the Nigerian Police and other paramilitary organizations, examine ways of fostering value orientation of service personnel through nationalism and the promotion of services’ core values, and suggest ways of improving on career planning in the AFN.
The Committee will also take a critical look at personnel welfare, civil-military relations, policy formulation and implementation, media operations, participation in UN/AU/ECOWAS missions, personnel spouses and barrack youths, plights of ex-service men, career review and national development.
The Committee which may also consider other matters that may result in reforms that would reinvigorate the AFN, is empowered to seek inputs from the Service Headquarters, serving and retired senior officers, relevant MDAs and other stakeholders to enrich its recommendations.

there is no report of iran deploying jets in syria. so it's either russia has some MIGs not reported in syria or it coukd be the syrians themselves because they've strayed into turkish terrritory like twice at the early stage of the war.

On the use of HMGs on soft-skins in general, we learn't that the hard way in Nigeria.

Terrorists only understand the language of a 12.7mm and above, now we mount those big brothers on little Panhard VBLs. Nigerian VBLs now come with ZSUs.

NIGERIA MILITARY WARNS NIGERIAN ON CLUSTER BOMBS

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) wishes to inform Nigerians living in the North East and any other parts of the country to keep a lookout for Cluster Bombs sometimes called scatter bombs as the Nigerian Army Engineers serving in Adamawa State have recovered some catches of these bombs in the contested areas in recent time.
The military high command has discovered that the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in the areas have used such lethal instruments over time to push their callous terrorist cause. For easy identification, it is important to note that cluster bombs are bombs that house submunitions, that is, smaller explosives contained in individual cases. These bombs are used against large areas containing many targets, such as columns of vehicles, marketplaces, places of worship or large troop concentration as the case may be.
Some cluster bombs carry several hundred of very small explosives wrapped in a metal container like a pot while others carry larger submunitions that can find specific targets such as tanks. Some of these submunitions do not blow up immediately, but remain behind and act as landmines. This can be an acceptable explanation for the recovery of catches of these bombs by Nigerian Army Engineers in the area.
The general publics are hereby requested to be wary of such concealed dangerous equipment now being used by the terrorist elements to cause havoc to both innocent lives and property. The public is also advised to report such objects/materials if seen to security agencies for prompt action. The terrorists are desperate and frustrated and could use any cruel instrument to actualize their evil intention.
Members of the public are hereby urged to continue to cooperate with the security agencies by giving timely information to secure our great country

Yep

Standardization could save allot of money ANND dramatically improve operationability of equipment (economies of scale)

You dont want to end up like India... because of their fvcked up procurement system and the fact that they operate an outrageously diverse ammount of equipment they can barely maintain spares/ammo stocks for 20 days of combat
