@chkil An amphibious warfare ship (or landing platform/dock (LPD) ) is a warship employed to land and support ground forces, such as marines, on enemy territory during an amphibious assault.e.g when kenya soldiers made an amphibious landing on the shores of kismayo ,somalia or the brits during the Falkland war with Argentine landing on Port San Carlos

yes i know , the san giorgio class are LPDs and this "kalaat beni abbes" is an enlarged and improved version of the San Giorgio with better weapons and anti air , EW capacity and radar,

the official name in algerian marine for this ship is "BDSL Kalaat Beni Abbes" (from the french Bâtiment de Débarquement et de Soutien Logistique) , in english " Landing and Logistical Support Vessel [Kalâat Beni Abbes] " so algerian navy can use it many ways addtional to it's standard role of LPD , look for exemple the pic below of the capacity of it's EMPAR AESA 3D radar 300 miles range ( 500 km) , like a marine AWACS

We would get it, however, we would require 2 more OPVs/corvettes to complement our current fleet of 5 OPVs.

SA Navy Forging ahead with Demostic development of Electronic Warfare Systems

An interesting overview of Active Off-Board Decoy sea trials was provided by Lleon Downes of the Institute for Maritime Technology (IMT). With guidance from the SA Navy, IMT managed a technology research programme which developed a concept demonstrator for an Active Off-Board Decoy for use as a self-protection system against Anti-Ship Missiles (ASMs). Used to seduce an incoming ASM away from its intended target by active radiation, Active Off-Board Decoys in military service are generally very expensive and limited to one-time use.

The SA Navy requirement included a low-cost reusable platform. Stellenbosch University assisted with the design. The project culminated in a successful sea trial conducted from the frigate SAS Amatola in January 2016. The actual performance of the Active Off-Board Decoy payload during the sea trial was deemed to be a success, with considerable scientific and engineering research knowledge gained should the SA Navy formally launch a programme to develop and acquire such a system for retrofitting to combat vessels.

he final speaker was Anthony Green of Reutech Radar Systems which has developed a novel means of providing additional surveillance information for shore- or ship-based maritime surveillance systems. The system, known as NRAIS (Navigation Radar-AIS Intercept System), combines high accuracy direction finding of vessels equipped with navigation radar to determine the presence of vessels that may have switched off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transmitters. The latter often happens with illegal fishing trawlers and pirate mother ships, which switch off their AIS but continue to use navigation radar. Although a highly accurate bearing measurement is obtained, vessel location may also be established through triangulation using multiple receivers.

The new system was trialled during a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) JOps experiment around Saldanha Bay in November 2014, when the multi-national maritime Exercise Ibsamar was being conducted in the area. Further tests are being conducted aboard the mine-hunter SAS Umzimkulu.

10 Countries With The Fastest Growing Militaries

Military spending in the United States totaled $596 billion in 2015, far and away the largest annual military expenditure in the world at nearly three times that of second-place China. While the U.S. military will likely not be outspent any time soon, American defense spending has declined each year since its most recent peak in 2010. Meanwhile, a number of other countries have substantially increased their military budgets in recent years.

The nations of the world spent $1.68 trillion on their militaries in 2015, up slightly from 2014, the first global increase since 2011. Based on annual military expenditures estimated by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the 10 countries with the largest one-year military expenditure increases as well as the 10 nations with the largest military spending declines.

Short-term spikes in military spending are often in response to heightened regional tensions or a country’s ongoing involvement in a conflict. According to Dr. Sam Perlo-Freeman, senior researcher at SIPRI, “It’s not surprising that in light both of ongoing conflicts and the rebuilding post conflict that large increases of military spending are going on” in these war-torn areas.

There is nothing showing that the vehicle is customised, not even the tire. It just a basic pickup with siren.

You are misunderstanding me.

What am saying is that everything about it is basic/normal, except if you are saying the pickup was produced/assembled in Kenya. Nothing about it is customised. Maybe the siren sha.

i found this about the pickup , the kenyan CMC Motors

CMC to finalise leasing of vehicles to police

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 17 – CMC Motors says it will have in two months time completed the supply of 530 vehicles to the National Police Service and the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government.
CMC Motors Group Managing Director Solomon Macharia says the configuration of the first tranche of at least 170 Ford Ranger pick-ups is ready.

“You know these kind of vehicles need to be configured to the colours of the Kenya Police and Administration Police and as we speak, the first tranche has already been prepared,” Macharia announced.

Out of the 530 vehicles, 300 will go to the National Police Service while the remaining 230 will be leased to the Interior Ministry.

The local motor dealer won the tender last year of close to Sh2 billion which will involve the leasing of the Ford Ranger Pick-ups for a period of four years.

“After the four years, these will be an opportunity to either extend the lease or for the vehicles to come back to the leasing company,” Macharia said.

The CMC Motors MD was speaking on Tuesday when the Ford Motor Company reaffirmed its franchise agreement with CMC.

“Kenya is a key market in our sub-Saharan Africa region and a springboard into the rest of East Africa,” said Jeff Nemeth, President and CEO of Ford Motor Company, sub-Saharan who is in Kenya for the first time.

Ford’s announcement comes a few days after CMC Motors fully delisted from the Nairobi Securities exchange (NSE), after a successful buyout of the company by Dubai based Al-Futtaim Group.
