Can you buy any of those jets from those countries? No. Only second hand.

Why don't you buy from China?

Fact is that the Chinese variant contains IP that the PAK one doesn't

Different aircraft, different manufacturers, different designations

just saw photos of a turkish army Otokar Cobra vehicle with a mounted turkish remote weapon system,it was undamaged .it looks like the occupant just fled and left the vehicle now in the hands of ISIS.Whats wrong with turkey army !

It was largely funded by Saab. The IP is theirs to do with what they want. The SANDF have not been able to fund anything in the last decade.

These cooperative projects are the only way the local defence industry will survive. Its utterly pointless for them to rely on the SA gov. for contracts. Companies like Paramount don't even cater for the SANDF and focus exclusively on the international market.

frumentius:
@nemesis2u: SA's loss, India's gain. The SA Army funded the development and the finished thing is a "Make in India" product! shocked
It seems selling IP is here to stay for the SA defence industry.

The army funded most/largely the development.

The SANDF has funded some projects. Like the Marlin missile demonstrator, the Umbani/Al tariq PGM (now combat tested) etc.

Skills maintained. But Denel products need operational usage by the defence to create damand.

From about 2003 to 2010, the SA Army had invested over ZAR60million in Denel Dynamics work alone on the project. Can't find the figure for Reutech Radar Systems.
Completely agree on reliability or otherwise of SA govt defence contracts.

Yep. Denel lost out to Selex on the UN UAV contract in the DRC simply because "the home military isn't using Seekers".

Apart from @Jake, is anyone else on here following the Mighty Russia page on instagram?

If you aren't, you are missing quite a lot. I mean, the Russians are kicking major ass in Syria, especially those SSO guys.

The Russians, Special forces have been way more effective than US and British commandos in Syria.

Those Russians bring major pain to the fight.

The Admin, who I believe is a top level Russian operator gave a proper clap back at those guys complaining. Man, I don't think I've seen our guys with POV gopro cameras in combat, apart from training videos.

It would be nice to see our commandos in combat.

It's a NATO army.

Yes.

Because after 15 years of combat in 2 different countries and over 2 million men deployed we know that NATO troops frequently abandon equipment on the feild

Turkish conscripts do not represent Western professionals

Stop trying to equate the two. It's pathetically transparent.

No back doors man, it has to be the Instagram page. That's the only source for the videos. @MightyRussia, that's the handle.

Lol that's the same source I was basing MY argument on cheesy

To my mind surplus just means standard ammo, perhapse not the correct use of the word, but you know what I mean. Fact remains, you will have to buy specialised ammo and neither RSA or big has the budget to do so (apart from SF)

I know a DMR is not a sniper rifle, it's a marksman's rifle. But 600m is still a tough shot for a semi auto and the FAL simply doesn't get the MOA unless it's a brand new build. Sure, If you are bench shooting it's no problem... But out in the field? No Bueno!

I didn't know about the M27... Thats just retarded... Marines: first in, last to think
You have to factor in more than just M.O.A when talking accuracy, I think MikeCZA made a valid point, M.O.A wont effect accuracy that much at 500m and below, ALSO with the R1/FAL being heavier and having a longer barrel i would go as far to say that it's even more accurate than the R4 under 500m...But that's of course with Barrel and ammo in newish condition. There are lots of ou manne that still prefer the R1 over the R4.

I spoke to those chaps a few times, there are 2 admins one is Russian and the other is Syrian, the Russian is actually a civilian with a lot of connections while the Syrian is the one in the armed forces.

Even if go-pro footage of our SOF in action is recorded I doubt that kind of stuff will be declassified in the next 10-20 years. Unless leaks
