Call it westernisation or civilisation or women emancipation, the era of eating real food is fading away.
Families now are generally accepting the trend of eating processed foods.
No more pounding yam....yam flour is available.
Seafoods are now cross breed...no more real fish.
The era of genetically modified food coupled with women getting to work and stay out for more time in order to contribute to the upkeep of the home, eating real meal at home is really affected.

Did you miss any meal in its original form, how have you been coping with all these artificial foods?

Op,I don't know about u but I still cook my food the way I used to do them then.
I stock pile my freezer with all I need to run my home for months, map out one weekend and cook everything I need for months. Diff soups, stew, banga soup(ofe akwu), moimoi, name them. Put them in small plasic containers and freeze till thy kingdom come.
I can easily do jollof rice, yam, potato, beans, whatever inb/w.
I've visited my pple outside the shores of naija and suprisngly, they prepare home food very well.

Going to work won't stop one from cooking except she/he don't want to.
I don't c any problem here or maybe I didn't get ur kweshion.

The era of eating heavy carbohydrate foods laced with starch is fast dying out. Unless you're a farmer or involved in physically exerting activities, of what use is it eating stuff like Eba for breakfast, Fufu for lunch and Pounded Yam for supper? Not to mention the high fat content that of the accompanying souis that go with those meals.

Who wants to eat themselves into obesity, diabetics, high BP and Cholesterol levels?

Jeeez... So much processed foods all around. I really dont see anything in those processed foods, it can never taste like the real one #striclymyopinion. I can't bring myself to eating that poundo yam. The first time i made moimoi and akara using processed bean flour, it was disaster for me.

Well... Different strokes for different folks.

All those guys operating fish ponds and selling cat fish are fake fish.
Real catfish are scares to get, all those frozen chicken and turkey and are preserved with chemicals.

Micro waved foods and semi processed/cooked food sold at eateries and cafeterias are agents of deaths.

Genetically modified foods are rampant in western world, laziness of naija women and our neglect of agriculture has led us to accepting all these westernised culture in the name of civilisation.

Really, eating good and real food in these naija of today will take an extra effort from all of us.

@hrmkz.... So where are we supposed to get the good ones??

I for one buy all my meat products from farms ... Touch/ select and kill.

I honestly think going vegan is the only way to go with all these chemically enhanced foods on shelves.. heck I bought organic apple juice last night ( my regular brand is out) , it tastes like pee...

@op, as I always say, may God help us o.
This is where we have found ourselves o. I'm not a fan of eateries, I try and prepare our foods at home, but does that means we are eating pure natural foods, I disagree, why?
The beef we eat, were they given natural foods?
The frozen turkey and chicken we cook, were they not preserved with chemicals?
Even the live ones, are they given natural foods?
The catfish we all shout on as enjoyment, were they given natural foods?
Even the snails are commecialised and hence, chemicalised, in order to get them in large quantities.
What about our fruits and vegetables that is even believed to be natural, are they not planted and maintained with chemicals?(Fertilizers)?
All our tomatoes, ata-rodo, tatase, onions etc, are they not all nowadays planted with fertilizers(chemicals)?
Even our so called natural seasonings like ginger, garlic, thyme, curry, etc, are they not all planted with chemicals nowadays, all in effort to have them in large quantity?
What about our maize, cassava, yam, rice, beans, etc, that comprises our major staple food, are they not all planted with chemicals?
Recently, we've been hearing noises about quails and quail eggs, many people are now into quail farming, but alas! , its no longer naturally kept, artificial foods are now being given to them, so that they can lay eggs more than usual, do we now say the chicken and the quail eggs are natural?
Gone are the days we eat organic, natural foods. May God just continue to protect us, this is what civilisation has made us.

okay...as a biologist let me start by saying we NEVER ate organic food in Nigeria...that stuff is a fallacy. Organic food is food that was grown with natural plants and natural fertilizers. Since my father was young, farmers have been using NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) fertilizers so that is NOT organic. There is NO such thing as fake catfish. What you have been getting is a NEW breed of catfish that is not native to nigeria and grows better in captivity (ie tanks).

Only if you have been eating off a farm that spreads cow poop as fertilizer have u eaten organic food. As far genetically modified foods, well, if you are eating any plant food from america, accept that it is modified.

Generally what we ae doing is picking more unhealthy foods to eat because it sweeter and more convenient to cook. being female, i really cant blame anyone. who wants to be stuck in the kitchen for 2-3 hours everyday? i gave my husband the option of cooking something healthy when he complained about food. he immediately said he wasnt hungry. grin everyone wants healthy food as long as they are not the ones cooking it cheesy

Here is what my family does. we take the 10 foods we eat the most and try and make sure it is the freshest and/or most organic we can afford. so we make stew, efo fresh. i try to buy fresh meat and chicken that is organic. so far, i havent found organic rice. we eat a lot of spag but i have to look into making it myself.

Buy frozen food instead of canned food because there is less processing in frozen than canned. If you eat processed food, look at the ingredient list. If there is more than 5, dont buy it. that is why i buy butter rather margarine, i recognize all the ingredients on it. i buy whole milk instead of skim...less rubbish put inside. dont use maggi or knorr...the msg causes you to eat a lot more than you should...read up on monosodium glutamate. plus a lot of people are allergic to it especially men. if you buy fruits, be careful about things that dont have peel-able skin like apples because pesticides stay on the skin you eat.
