U.S. senator Chuck Schumer called Russian president Vladimir Putin a “schoolyard bully” and urged counties to hold rainbow flags during the opening ceremonies of the Sochi Olympics to support LGBT athletes during a Monday appearance on Morning Joe. “I’ve called Putin … a schoolyard bully, and the only way you deal with bullies is stand up to them,” “When we march initially, all the countries should wave the multicolored flag for gay rights. That would be pretty embarrassing for Putin, let our athletes participate and still take a stand.” The New York senator also praised President Obama for his decision to publicly criticize Russia’s treatment of LGBT people and canceling a meeting with Putin following Russia’s adoption of a new antigay law.
A British Olympian have spoken out against Russia’s ‘gay propaganda’ laws, saying it will negatively affect their performance. Zac Purchase MBE, a 27-year-old gold medallist rower, has expressed concern as the Chair of the British Athletes Commission’s advisory group. ‘Sochi 2014 represents the final goal for the GB Team after four years of sacrifice and commitment,’ he said. ‘Concerns about possible prosecution and even just knowing that the political environment is anti-gay could negatively affect an athlete’s performance. ‘Depriving an athlete of the opportunity to be as good as they can be on a world stage is just not acceptable’. The British Athletes Commission also said they were ‘concerned’ by the anti-gay laws in Russia, but said they were pleased both Prime Minister David Cameron and Lord Sebastian Coe had spoken out against them. On 10 August, Cameron sent a message to British writer and wit Stephen Fry who wrote a letter that said Putin was repeating the same steps as Hitler did in the years before World War II. He said: ‘Thank you for your note Stephen Fry. I share your deep concern about the abuse of gay people in Russia… ‘However, I believe we can better challenge prejudices as we attend, rather than boycotting the Winter Olympics’.
Two top German cabinet ministers have said Russia’s anti-gay laws prove President Vladimir Putin is a ‘dictator’. Guido Westerwelle, the openly gay Foreign Minister, and Dirk Niebel, the Development Minister, have criticized the Russian president for backing laws banning propaganda against ‘non-traditional relationships’. ‘We must make clear when in contact with Russian politicians that this collapse in fundamental democratic values is not acceptable, and that Russia is moving towards becoming a flawless dictatorship,’ Niebel told broadcaster N24 yesterday (12 August). The use of the words ‘flawless dictatorship’ is believed to be a play on comments made by former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder that described Putin as a ‘flawless democrat’. A day earlier, Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser- Schnarrenberger told the newspaper Welt am Sonntag ‘Russia is taking another big step towards becoming a flawless dictatorship in ostracising homosexuals.’ Germany is not intending to boycott the Olympic Games. Westerwelle, who said any attempts to denounce same-sex relationships had no attempts in a democracy, said a boycott would be counter- productive. While Chancellor Angela Merkel has expressed ‘concern’ over Russia’s anti-gay laws, a spokesman for her told Reuters Westerwelle and Niebel’s comments were ‘unhelpful’. The German ministers speaking out against the ‘gay propaganda’ law builds on the recent international criticism. US president Barack Obama said Putin was violating the ‘basic morality’, adding he has ‘no patience for countries’ that do not affirm the rights of LGBT people. British writer, wit and presenter Stephen Fry has also criticized the anti-gay laws, comparing Putin’s actions to Adolf Hitler before the Holocaust. Yesterday, Gay Star News revealed the International Olympic Committee could punish athletes with their own ‘gay propaganda’ rules. They said if any LGBT or straight athlete fights for gay Russians during the Sochi Olympics then they could be punished. They said the Games were no place for ‘political’ statements. It followed Russia’s Interior Ministry, which controls the police force, confirming there would be no suspension of the law during the Sochi Winter Olympics.
Russian officials made clear Monday that they have no plans to suspend their anti-gay propaganda laws for the duration of the Olympics when they are held in Sochi in February 2014. The International Olympic Committee had asked for written clarification on the law and how it might impact athletes and spectators during the Olympics. Russia's Interior Ministry, which controls the police force, said in a statement: 'The law enforcement agencies can have no qualms with people who harbor a nontraditional sexual orientation and do not commit such acts [to promote homosexuality to minors], do not conduct any kind of provocation and take part in the Olympics peacefully.' The statement continued: Any discussion on violating the rights of representatives of nontraditional sexual orientations, stopping them from taking part in the Olympic Games or discrimination of athletes and guests of the Olympics according to their sexual orientation is totally unfounded and contrived.' Russia's controversial law allows police officers to arrest tourists and foreign nationals they suspect of being homosexual, lesbian, or 'pro-gay' and detaining them for up to 14 days. 'If a person does not put across his views in the presence of children, no measures against him can be taken,' said Alexander Zhukov, head of Russia's National Olympic Committee. 'People of nontraditional sexual orientations can take part in the competitions and all other events at the Games unhindered, without any fear for their safety whatsoever.' IOC told Gay media in an interview earlier today that it would not just be Russia who would frown on anyone who tries to show any kind of LGBT solidarity during the Olympics such as wearing a rainbow pin. The IOC says it still supports gays and lesbians being allowed to compete, but won’t let them use the Olympics as a platform to highlight Russia’s anti- LGBT human rights abuses.
The International Olympic Committee will likely stop any athlete who shows solidarity for LGBT Russians at the Sochi Games, Gay media can reveal. Gay Star News asked the global Olympic bosses what they were planning to do to ‘make sure the LGBT community in Russia can have a visible, proud, safe presence at the games’. But the IOC replied the games were not the place for ‘political’ statements. Any participant who steps out of line may be punished, not by the Russians but by Olympic chiefs themselves. LGBT rights campaigners have called on athletes to wear ‘rainbow pins’ to show their support for LGBT people in the opening and closing ceremonies. New Zealand gay speed skater Blake Skjellerup, 28, was one athlete who pledged to do so . But the IOC pointed Gaymedia to rules banning that. The Olympics own charter describes such things as ‘propaganda’ – the same word used by the Russians in their new anti-gay law which stops homosexuality being ‘promoted’ to minors. Under rule 50 of the IOC’s charter: ‘No kind of demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda is permitted in any Olympic sites, venues or other areas.’ Gay medias had asked what the global Olympic chiefs thought about plans for athletes to wear rainbow pins or hold hands during the opening and closing ceremonies. We also asked if the IOC would provide a safe space – or Pride House – for LGBT athletes, spectators, dignitaries and others during the games to celebrate gay sport and community. But their spokeswoman told us: ‘Regarding your suggestions, the IOC has a clear rule laid out in the Olympic Charter (Rule 50) which states that the venues of the Olympic Games are not a place for proactive political or religious demonstration. ‘This rule has been in place for many years and applied when necessary. ‘In any case, the IOC would treat each case individually and take a sensible approach depending on what was said or done.’ The message is clear, athletes, coaches and others who step out of line – for example by wearing rainbow pins – would not just risk arrest from Russians, but also punishment from the IOC. Clause 50 states the penalty for violation can be ‘disqualification or withdrawal of the accreditation of the person concerned’ without appeal. The IOC still supports gays and lesbians being allowed to compete, but won’t let them use the Olympics as a platform to highlight Russia’s anti- LGBT human rights abuses. It will be a blow for people who argued against a boycott of the games, saying Sochi could be used to champion LGBT issues in Russia. Olympics President Jacques Rogge last week said the games ‘should be open to all, free of discrimination’ sparking hopes the IOC may review its charter so LGBT people were specifically protected from exclusion. Currently, only race, religion, politics and gender are included under the charter’s criteria for which discrimination is prohibited . GSN asked about this too but we were told their position remains unchanged. IOC officials now seem to be less certain LGBT athletes will be shielded from Russia’s anti-gay ‘propaganda’ laws too. Previously they stated: ‘The IOC has received assurances from the highest level of government in Russia that the legislation will not affect those attending or taking part in the games.’ But that appears to be in tatters after a series of high-level government officials, including Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko, said the law would apply during the games . Now the IOC spokeswoman has admitted to us: ‘We have received assurances from the Russian government but simply asked for some clarifications.’ |

As at 2007 The star of hit TV show Prison Break has responded to rumours he is gay. Wentworth Miller has built up a huge following in the gay community after coming to prominence playing the role of Michael Scofield. Miller, who was born in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, is quoted by WENN as stating, “No, I’m not gay. I know these rumours are out there…I’m cool with the fact that they exist, I mean this is about fantasy.” The 34-year-old actor was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama Television Series in 2006. Speaking out after persistent rumours about his sexual orientation circulated on the internet, Miller said, “Certain people are going to have certain fantasies. “If someone wants to imagine me with a woman, or a man or one of each, that’s cool with me as long as you keep watching the show.” Miller was born in the UK because his father was studying here at the time. He moved to the USA when he was still a toddler. The actor, full name Wentworth Earl Miller III, is of African, Blasian, English, German Jewish, Cherokee, Russian, French, Dutch, Syrian, and Lebanese descent. He has become something of a gay icon as a result of his role in the homo-erotically charged prison drama. |

We are waiting for D'banj, 2face, Usher, Trey Songz, Ne-Yo, Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Wizkid and the rest of them to come out too. Be proud of what you are. That's a huge generalization. Besides, it's not right calling out those folks. However, a Psychologist friend recently told me that a study on gays shows that their artistic/creativity part of the brain is usually more developed than that of the normal folks, because i kept wondering why we have so many celebrities involved in this nauseating act. 2 Likes |

50calibre: Lol you make me laugh comparing the wire to prison break. I haven't seen the wire, but I know it isn't as good as prison break, no tv series is as good as prison break.
Prison break set a standard no show has been able to match since.
Btw is the wire any good? Bruv, we're talking about "The Wire" here. The greatest TV series ever. The TV series that created TV legends like: Omar Little, Stringer Bell, Avon Barksdale, Proposition Joe, Jimmy McNulty etc.. I didn't name it the greatest, critics did. Prison Break isn't even close. The Wire was so good, I've all the series on DVD and on my IPod. I've got nothing against Prison Break, but I just couldn't relate to it, after season 1. Watched bits of season 2 and 3 just because my chic back then was always disturbing me about it. Coupled with the fact that this Scofield guy just look goofy and fruity. Heck, I prefer "Oz" to "Prison Break." That's just me - people are different and we related to things different. However, "The Wire" and "Prison Break" don't belong in the same sentence - that's like comparing "The Godfather" to "Gangs of New York." The Godfather created movie legends - Gangs of New York on the other hand, was fun to watch, but it never created nothing. |

I think we both are pure people with a mind of our own, and we don't follow bandwagon nor get too involved in the hype. I owe you a bottle of black henny XO for that, bruddah. It's just reminiscent of when Rihanna first came out and everyone thought her forehead look massive. Now that she's a regular on the sexiest women in the world list, everyone and their pops think she's the best thing since slice bread. Most people don't have a mind of their own, they just jump on the bandwagon to complete the numbers. Anyway, the homo guy just came out of the closet - 80% of hollywood is gay/bi-sexual, anyway. So it's not surprising, though. By 2080, 3/4 of the people in the world will be gay or on the down low - someone better invent Love Machine that looks like the real thing before then. And the few remaining straight men on the planet by then will be some lucky SOBs - too many women to marry and shyte. 1 Like |
