Lovely post. Check history of medical practice. Alchemists become pharmacists, florence pioneer nursing, surgeon and physcians pathology(lab medicine). Early doctors do lab tests themselves, later, they trained lab assistants now medical techologist(usa), mls(nigeria), biome sci in uk. Doctors started lab medicine. Check more info international academy of pathology and college of america pathologists(cap). It is cap that certify lab in usa. Go and check. Google will teach us better. I am not saying health workes must not become consultants but let us copy well. In uk Rcpath regulates would become consultant biomedical scientist. They conduct exam for them Check their website. True shortages of doctors make them to be amending laws. Note in usa nursing practioners do not replace family doctors. They do not even compete. Those countries have policy that determine who becomes consultant to address doctors shortage. Do we have shortages of doctors in nigeria? No. Until we doctors shortages let status quo remain the same. Mind u in australia bsc pharmacology opens pharmacy shops independly to addres shortage of pharmacist.
sofi05: It is clearly a huge pity that these issues are such that would be discussed extensively. It is a known fact that medicine has become really diversified and the roles of the different players in the health sector rather broadened. This is a global approach: the patient is the most important factor in this equation (although really an unballanced equation in this country). Reading closely thru the discussion in this thread, it is obvious that the rights and boundaries of the several players in the health sector has been trampled upon for a protracted period! Refering to the US, it is obvious that expanded roles exists for the Nurse (we now have Nurse Practitioner)))n the Pharmacist(Dr of Pharmacy), the Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist(Doctor of Clinical Lab Sciences) Physiotherapy (Doctor of Physio) etc. This goes a long way to show that the field of medicine is becoming more specialised and as such requires such trained and specialised professionals for the common good, the good og the patient! Why muct the Nigerian case be any different. Consultants exist for every profession in the UK. There are Consultant Biomedicla scientists and earn as high or even higher than lots of the doctors. If Doctors have left clinical practice for lab medicine, y can't other professions also extend their scope of practice? In all health schools, we have what is called basic medical science (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry) which forms the basis of the different professions...so y then do doctors say they do everything in medical sch? Gues we all did everything! That doesn't mean because I did pharmacology as an MLS student that I am a pharmacologist or can work in a pharmacy! Even students with a BSc degree in pharmacology do not have the license to work in a hospital pharmacy! What is the fuss all about

you are such a silly and ignoramous fellow, see,i will not because of your stupidity designate all drs as stupid and arrogant because i hve com across many of them that are very responsible, but for your type,i will advice you to go and sit down and acquaint yourself with your area of expertise(diagnosis),so that you will not become a liability to this nation when the time comes, you cannot fool everybody all the time.
Let me even ask you a question, why did you say i am missinforming the public?,did you read through it,or you read like you do your diagnosis, did i tell you that is how it is done? i am only suggesting a lasting solution to this problem that kuti has created for us. let me tell you, that suggestion i wroteis the best way,if you like go and import whatsoever you feel from any part of the world,we no send you,if the battle is not won now, tomorrow dey,and untill Drs leave everything about drugs to the pharmacist, leave nursing to nurse and untill lab scientist have the final say on lab matters, doctors of your type will never see peace,

You must be an hungry or fake journalist. I laugh at ur post. It defy logics and show ur shallow thinking. U cannot fight govt and win. As long as case in court, johesu has no right to go on strike. Ur analogy of governor of cbn is wrong. Mind u present world bank md is a medical doctor. Check it out. Ur complain about attitude of nigeria doctors is baseless. All health workers have attitude problem. It is nigeria problems check lord lugard comments abt nigeria. In medical practice phd is irrelevant to patient care, fellowship prog is more relevant. That is practice worldwide. Phd is just add qualification. U talk of dirty job then cleaners should get highest pay in hospital. Go and read history of hospital u would understand better. If they ve paid u write that shit pls return their money.
enny09: FG APPEAL STALLS RESOLUTION OF
HEALTH CRISIS
August 23, 2013 by | Filed in news | No
comments
Federal government has appealed to the
ruling of the National Industrial Court (NIC)
into its labour dispute with health workers who
went on indefinite nationwide strike
Wednesday midnight.
The appeal in court stopped its implementation
of agreements reached with members of Joint
Health Sector Unions last May.
Health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu is to
meet with JOHESU on Monday in hopes of a
dialogue but he appealed that striking workers
be considerate about the plight of thousands
of Nigerians denied health services on account
of their industrial action.
The minister said the agreements could not be
acted upon immediately because the appeal
was pending in court.
He said the appeal was filed on the advice of
government legal counsel and served on
JOHESU because the NIC ruling
asking government to negotiate with workers
intent on skipping a pay level and to allow
consultants appointed in error outside the
ministry to continue in their position was
“confusing.”
But JOHESU—an umbrella body of
nurses, midwives, pharmacists, technicians—
has denied knowledge of any appeal filed
and accused the health ministry of “shifting
the goal in the middle of the game.”
JOHESU president Dr Ayuba Wabba said
both parties, in a collective bargain agreement
reached before the dispute went to NIC in June
2012 at the behest of the labour ministry.
“There was an agreement and
understanding that whatever the outcome of
the NIC judgement, every party shall respect
and implement the judgment,” Wabba said.
“It wasn’t us that took the case to NIC, it was
government through the instrument of the
minister of labour. You can’t shift the post in
the middle of the game.”

adeola_drg: @Dnaz, Pharmacists do more pharmacology than medical doctors, so what crap are you talking about? FYI, pharmacists in developed countries(im only sure of UK) obtain prescribing rights after pharmacy school.. FYI, nurses also do pharmacology, anatomy, physiology in school, so pls tell me(be professional here) what course doctors do in skul, that members of other professions didnt do.. They av no idea about pharmacognosy, we(Rxcists) do, we also do clinical rotations and ward rounds they do.. I know something for sure, something is wrong with the mentality of Nigerian med docs and even studs.. *smh*

If it comes to pharmacology pls pharmacists don't knw more dan doctors, I dnt blame u, u culdnt even qualify to knw abt d medical curriculum. I agree we dnt knw anything abt drug production and distribution, but pharmacology oh pls! We even do post graduate courses in dat.

@dmaz, lalaalamed..the duo have just projected a high level of ignorance.
In western world, all health professional
s attain to level of consultancy without any hindrance. This is recognition of experience and competence. Your health minister is not aware of this... What a shame...
Hospitals are headed by health administrators or any health practitional with relevant cognate experience and academic qualifications. In Nigeria.. Physicians want to in the clinic at the same time an administrator...what a misnomer.
Nigeria is 51st out of 53 africa nations according to Mo Ibrahim Foundation.....thank to the physicians leadership in our hospitals. And Mr minister who has got no shame.

Ranging from paediatrics, HIV/AIDS, oncology, compounding, infectious diseases. Space and time won't permit me, u can use google nd watch some youtube videos. Cheers.
