Premium Times, as biased as they are towards this govt, did LIVE blogging twice on the railways. On no occasion did the journey from Lagos to Illorin take more than 9 hours
https://www.nairaland.com/1226729/train-ride-lagos-kano-live
http://premiumtimesng.com/news/125455-live-blog-premium-times-train-trip-kano-lagos-the-return.html

Now according to the commentaries in the first link, the train left Lagos around 14.43pm and arrived Illorin at 23.40 pm covering a total distance of 391km from Lagos.
That means it took the train about 9hrs to arrive Illorin from Lagos.

Haters can go and commit suicide.

Did Premium Times travel on the train?
There's no point embarking on baseless defence of Nigerian rail service!
People are terribly complaining about the rail transportation bro. We are talking about the real people that travelled on those locomotive trains and not some paid Bloggers!

Senseless post, full of contradictions.

Are you the one that travelled by train or your friend? Why did it take so long because that duration is abnormal? What happened on the way? It is also unusual for trains to take off by 7am.

Maybe there was a 'traffic jam'. At least the travellers got enough 'fresh air' on board and enough opportunities to buy 'fresh gala' on the road or shall I say, railway track/line.

that threas is the real rubbish. My good friend joe biden will call it a bunch of marlakey....a poll affiliated with a serving minister under the president being polled is flawed. It's amazing how empty your head becomes when the truth hits you in the face.

Let him continue to wallow in mediocrity by defending this administration all the time. He's not to blame, he's doing what he's paid for!
Other parts of the world are talking about express trains and here he is defending obsolete locomotives!

If GEJ wasn't building a standard rail tracks I would have joined you to shout mediocrity but alas the standard gauge line that will house speed trains from Abuja-Kaduna is at an advanced stage of completion, the same with that from Itakpe-Warri and also the Abuja City Monorail....

My personal experience, I have travelled via the railway from ilorin to lagos, that was 2 yrs ago, just for the experience.
We left ilorin 9am on Sunday and we arrived Agege, Lagos 6pm in the evening that same day.

We even arrived ibadan around 2pm, there were so many stop overs, offa, ibadan, etc, like 5 stop overs or so. We have security personnel in the train as well.

I don't rily know where the OP got that information from, enemies of progress.

Dont mind the fools who are excited over a poorly constructed lie. Their excitement over the baseless and poorly constructed lie by the OP just shows how hungry and desperate these DEVILS are for BAD news. They'r hunting, panting and seeking for BAD news, whether true or false, anywhere just to satisfy their EVIL thoughts.

That is more like it and it tallies with the time on the PREMIUM TIMES live blogging. Thats about 9hours.

2015 is around the corner, so we'r not suprised that shameless liars, enemies of progress and DEVILISH Nigerians have started concocting all manners of LIES just to satisfy the inordinate political ambitions of their pay masters. Where were these vultures about 4 years ago when the trains were DEAD and NOTHING was moving? They were all worshiping at the temple of their various masters, some of whom ensured the trains remained DEAD. None of them came here to share with us tales by moonlight of how they spent eternity on the trains because there was NO trains anyway. Now that the trains are back on track, vultures and apostles of the DEVIL would have none of it

Businessday is pro government

August 26 2013

and heres their experience

http://businessdayonline.com/2013/08/lagos-kano-train-service/

we got to Abeokuta at 7.33pm, Ibadan 10.12pm and Oshogbo at 2.20am on Saturday yet at that unholy hour, under-aged children and aged mothers were seen hawking all kinds of goods at the train station. At this station, I saw passengers struggling and jostling to get inside the train and most of them were elderly women traders with several bags and baggages.

That scene alone strengthens Nigeria’s position as a country with a high level of child abuse. Less than 10 minutes into the commencement of our journey to Offa, I noticed a sudden shutdown of engine noise and all of a sudden, the 300 tons engine head started pulling all the 21 coaches at a 100 percent less speed than that of a millipede.

When our reporter asked one of the security officers drafted from the NRC Police Command what is the cause of the sudden development, he retorted “Ah my brother, we have to crawl like this until we get out of this situation. Any time it rains and the tracks gets waterlogged, it impedes free movement of the steel wheels as a result of the scratching effect until it is dried up again and the train returns to its normal speed. And if the train moves faster than the crawling speed, it will derail.”

It took the combined effort of some NRC staff to come down from the train anytime there is a wheel spin to pick stones and sand in order to lubricate the wheels for easier movement of coaches. At this point, I remembered telling my wife to commit my journey into prayers. I also recollected that Victor Obayagbona, a colleague of mine, had prayed for me Thursday night in the office prior to my departure. We got to Oshogbo at 2.20am and struggled to get to Offa station by 8.05am on Saturday as a result of the hitches.

According to premium times reporter, he described his experience as hell .

grin grin grin

Its not enough to throw the negative comments about the trains services at us while turning a BLIND eye to the POSITIVES.

Lets now bring out the positives from the same PREMIUM TIMES:

1. 15.48
A little more description of the coaches: The First Class A/C is divided into A and B. Those of us in A are having the sole privilege of enjoying Nollywood-on-the-go

2. 15.52
I’m trying to read, but the lady beside me won’t just stop moaning about the Nollywood movie. “How can Ini Edo wear the same cloth for two weeks?” “How can Mike Ezuruonye go into a bush bare chested?” “The director of this movie is not a pro?”…. I may change my mind and have another beer

3. 15.58
By the way, the train is escorted by a crack team of dare devil police officers armed to the teeth with AK47 rifles.

4. 22.19
We hit Offa. 346km from Lagos. Power is still on, so the coach is incredibly cold. Almost everyone has a cloth draped over her body. No blanket is offered by the train company – yet

5. 23.36
It’s still all quiet. Train is moving, electricity is restored, and everyone’s attention is riveted at the Nollywood. I am torn between taking a nap, and another trip to the bar

6. 00.26
Just had a serious discussion with the railway official on the coach. The temperature is approaching zero degrees. “This is a train. Before you enter the First Class, you supposed to prepare for the AC,” he said.

7. 15.20
One dude who was left behind at Gwada, the last station before Kaduna, dashesinto the train. He’d used Okada to pursue the train. And paid N2,000. One Yoruba guy screams: “N2,000?! Ah!”

8. 16.53
Fortunately for me, I meet Salisu, a Kano resident travelling Second Class from Lagos. I ask him if he had enjoyed the ride thus far: “I like it. We are only two on this chair. I’m not a big man. The A/C is for the big man.”

9. 17.04
Someone in the First Class coach just told me that the “toilet is OK.” Iss okay

10. "Alhaji Tanko, standing at the door, tells me the last time he boarded a train – in 1973 – to Jos. From Lagos. “We spent one week before we reach Jos. At Kafanchan, we spent more that three days.” My beer is suddenly bitter"

11. 21.25
The train pulls out of Oshogbo station (9:09 p.m.) . A woman beside me sprints into the coach, breathless. She says she has disembarked to ‘gist’ with her daughter who lives in Oshogbo . And this ‘heavenly’ train nearly left her behind
https://www.nairaland.com/1226729/train-ride-lagos-kano-live

There are MORE but these are the ones I could produce for now.

So in essence, for every one negative testimony about the train services, there are two positive testimonies. A half-empty cup can also be described as half-full. We all know that there are lots of room for improvement but we will not allow apostles of hate and evil to shoot down the positive testimonies about the return of the railways.
