You see how this woman works. Femi Fani-Kayode was busy chasing Igbo women instead of doing his job as Aviation Minister. That man should be in prison. 47 Likes |

Exporting our perishables to the international market will result in scarcity of such produce in the domestic market. 2 Likes |

We don't have enough to eat and we are planning to export. Any way, good news, more terminals, more jobs, competition in the agric sector. 1 Like |

chucky234: Exporting our perishables to the international market will result in scarcity of such produce in the domestic market. more than 60 percent of our perishable food rot before they even get to their local destination. the bulk of what you eat is already destroyed before it gets to your table. Imagine if that 60 percent is exported. The 2011 study according to AP, showed that Nigeria pays $360 million to import more than 300,000 metric tons annually of tomato paste from companies including Hebei, China-based Baoding Sanyuan Food Packing Co. and Singapore’s Olam International Ltd (OLAM). a year. Nigeria produces 1.5 million tons of tomatoes annually of which about 900,000 tons rot, Agriculture Minister Akinwunmi Adesina said at a June 13 presentation in Abuja. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/dangote-vies-with-china-over-tomato-market/ this is a very good initiative, and any sharp business man should key into it. Well done Madame minister. 15 Likes |

df2006:Dont you think farmers would prefer selling the remaining 40% to exporters rather than sell to the domestic market since exporters guarantee more money for the farmers. |

chucky234: Exporting our perishables to the international market will result in scarcity of such produce in the domestic market.NO, it wudn't necessarily. We already lost up to 70% of our Perishables (Onions, Okra, Tomatoes, Oranges, various Vegetables, Flowers, etc) to Spoilage due to insufficient and timeline Storage/Preservation facilities (amongst other reasons). This shld help reduce this huge waste and provide sm structure and predictability to d market. The ensuing Economics of Scale (plus the products saved from d current waste) should aid both Export and Internal trade of these Perishables. Think trading Onions produced in huge quantities in Kebbi to Lagos where they are needed cos of better Storage facilities and logistics... 2 Likes |
